zev looks up, and lifts an amused eyebrow at the male’s theatrics. “ i didn’t TOUCH the deck. you did all the shuffling. if you picked that card and find it insulting, that’s on you.” they said, before their mind flickered back, remembering the laughter that had erupted when bael had flipped over the card to reveal ‘the fool’. it was a misunderstood card, which made sense because bael gave off the impression of being slightly misunderstood, too. “THE FOOL.” they confirmed, turning their body to face the male properly. “it’s part of the major arcana hand. which usually implies LIFE LESSONS and major themes in your life. when you put the card down, it was reversed.” they pause, before explaining further. “as in, upside down. which usually means recklessness. which i’m sure you can agree with, because EVERYONE was reckless that night. not that special or meaningful, right? “ they shake their head. “wrong. you’re standing on the edge of a cliff and you don’t even realise it. i don’t mean it’s dangerous, although it is, i mean… you’re oblivious. you don’t know what’s happening around you. you’re not taking in other environments. on the card, the fool has all this other stuff with them: mountains, a backpack, a white rose. they’re always there, always present — but you don’t notice that stuff, do you?” zev tilts their head to the side, before shrugging. “just something to THINK about.”
his eyes immediately narrow, stern and sceptical, at the suggestion that it is his own fault he’s drawn the fool. it’s not — he doesn’t believe in fate and he doesn’t know if he believes in this, but there was no conscious decision made. it’s not his fault, but he keeps the disagreement to himself, for once. instead, he listens with rapt attention, undeniable curiosity and admittedly, a good amount of confusion because he had no idea what zev was talking about — the major arcana, what? the fool in reversed, who? “ seems more like only one person was reckless, “ he cannot help the comment, because he hasn’t been – not at the party, anyway – and of all the others, everyone has only gone as far as paying for their own stupidity with a hangover, but only one took the extra step — and yet, zev was right. even a shed, burning with someone’s recklessness, seemed meaningless. catching his lower lip between his teeth, he thinks like he’s told to, following the collection of words thrown at him. truth be told, he had not seen the other things on the card, and he wonders if he would’ve hadn’t it been for the alcohol in his blood. “ sounds like he’s going somewhere, “ he points out, gaze flickering back to theirs, “ which means he’s either going back or going down, no? “ and he shifts, hand lifting to scratch the line of his jaw in a thoughtful manner. “ the whole thing is cryptic, right? a white rose could just as well be a person? “
