Pretty sure Kang Tae’s mother died because she was defending Mun Yeong. She stabbed her and said “I didn’t get to say this earlier, it is me who will take care of my child”. Kang Tae’s mother and Mun Yeong’s mother must’ve had an interaction where she saw her abusing Mun Yeong and came for her parenting. And because she’s extremely possessive of Mun Yeong that’s literally the worst thing you can say to her. She came for her as a mother. And she killed her. 

Which would mean, Kang Tae’s mother saw she was in a bad situation and tried to help Mun Yeong and died because of it.
