.☘︎ ݁˖sypnosis: a party you both knew you’d end up at, an overheard conversation you were never meant to hear, and feelings ohyul never planned to face tonight. | part one.
⋆˚࿔ mentions of other idols (ryul, woonhak, anton, taesan), drinking, ryul is tipsy, angsty ohyul, teasing, mentions of making out, fluffy sappy stuff & a smooch 💋
kwon ohyul told himself he would be normal tonight. he repeated it while doing every tasks, the motion of doing nothing to settle the nerves tensing through his body. he tried again while tying his shoes and once more while standing outside woonhak’s apartment door with his hands shoved deep into his pockets. normal, steady, and oddly unbothered. he would show up, say happy birthday, celebrate for a bit, leave. no searching for you the moment he walked in. no wondering if you were truly happier without him. no hoping you missed him just the same. he told himself he was okay, he had to be.
a few weeks earlier, he had sat on his bed at one in the morning, phone glowing in the dark, and unliked every photo on your instagram. he did it slowly, thumb hovering over each picture like he was touching something fragile. he told himself it was closure, but afterward he just stared at your profile, chest tight, feeling worse than before.
when ohyul stepped into the party, the warmth of the room washed over him. laughter, music, bodies moving though none of it reached him. his eyes found you instantly. not because he meant to look, but because his heart reacted before his mind could control it.
you were laughing with your friends, head tilted, eyes soft, tucking your hair behind your ear the way you always did when you listened. you looked lighter, softer like you had grown into someone new while he was still trying to convince himself he was fine.
it stung more than expected.
ohyul noticed anton wasn’t beside you. not exactly that he was also looking for the older boy, just curious. anton was across the room, nowhere near you. a small, embarrassing relief settled in ohyul’s chest. maybe he had been wrong. maybe he had been hurting over nothing. maybe anton wasn’t exactly replacing him.
you noticed ohyul too. you hated how familiar he still felt. you thought after months and a boy you painfully did not care about wrapped around your finger, seeing him would feel different, but instead you noticed everything. the tiredness in his eyes. the way he looked away too quickly. the way his shoulders tightened like he was bracing for battle.
the room felt suddenly smaller, quieter like the two of you were standing in the same memory.
ryul found ohyul first, tugging him into into the kitchen with woonhak like he always did. the music was loud, but somehow the three of them felt tucked away from it, standing in their own little bubble of noise and warmth.
ryul was tipsy, not drunk, just unfiltered in that way he got when the night is still young. ohyul stood with them, hands in his pockets, shoulders slightly tense, pretending to listen, pretending to be fine.
“you good?” woonhak asked.
ohyul nodded. “yeah.”
ryul let out a quiet snort. “liar.”
ohyul shot him a look, tired and sharp.
“what? you’ve supposedly been acting fine.”
“because i am.” ohyul replied.
ryul took a slow sip of his drink. “sureee.”
the word hung between them, low but heavy.
“you still miss yn.” ryul questioned despite knowing the answer.
ohyul stiffened in that small way people do when something hits too close. his fingers tapped against his cup, a quiet, restless rhythm he did not seem aware of.
“i… it’s not- whatever,” he murmured, stuttering his words. not angry. just embarrassed.
ryul blinked at him, expression sobering. “what?”
ohyul shook his head. “nothing.”
woonhak watched him for a moment. “you still check on yn?”
ohyul looked away. ryul let out a quiet laugh, not mocking, just knowing.
“of course he does.” ryul replied.
“can you not? at least not now.” ohyul muttered.
“what? you think we don’t notice?”
they did, they noticed everything.
the way he stared at his phone too long. the way he typed and deleted messages. the way his mood shifted whenever someone said yn’s name.
ryul took another sip. “bro he even unliked all of her posts.”
ohyul’s head snapped toward him. “ryul, that’s not something you say out loud.”
“my bad. but it is true.”
woonhak blinked, jerking back his head. “you actually did that?”
ohyul looked down. “yeah.”
“what why, isn’t that just like more tedious work to do?”
a small pause.
“thought it would help.” ohyul shrugged, feeling somewhat relieved that he had someone to talk to about it.
the boys went quiet. not awkward, just understanding.
ryul’s voice softened. “you were just trying to move on from yn.”
ohyul did not respond, his shoulders dipped slightly.
“but you still check sometimes,” ryul added. “you just wanted to know if she’s okay.” a beat. “and you still have pictures.”
ohyul sighed. “dude please.”
woonhak opened his mouth to say something, but then he noticed it. ohyul was not looking at them anymore. his gaze had drifted past their shoulders, softening and tightening all at once.
woonhak turned slowly. “oh.”
ryul looked over. “what?”
then he saw you, standing there with a few drinks in your hands, completely still. the tipsy smile slid off ryul’s face.
“oh.” a pause. “oh no.”
ohyul followed their gaze. the second he saw you, he went quiet. not because he was upset at them, but because the one thing he never wanted was for you to see how much he was still holding on.
ryul whispered, “i did not know yn was there.”
woonhak raised an eyebrow. “you said her name multiple times.”
“yeah. that is fair.”
ryul straightened. “we are gonna go find taesan.”
“taesan’s not here,” you said, pointing out the obvious.
ryul froze. “right. uh he’s probably getting more drinks.”
woonhak sighed. “you’re terrible at lying.”
“not helping,” ryul muttered, dragging woonhak away, leaving you and ohyul alone.
you held the drinks a little too tightly, the condensation cooling your fingers. ohyul stood across from you, shoulders tense, eyes flickering between you and the floor.
you spoke first.
“i don’t think taesan could save you from this.”
your voice was gentle, but it carried something else too. something careful, something that made ohyul realize you were keeping your guard up.
a small laugh escaped him. “yeah. unfortunately not.”
“ryul is not a very subtle person.”
“i know.”
a pause settled between you, warm and full.
you looked at him, really looked, and the tiredness in his eyes made your chest tighten. the suave shield you had put on vanished into thin air. he wasn’t pretending anymore. he looked like someone who had been carrying too much for too long.
“is it true?” you asked. beneath the surface of your wary façade, you so desperately wanted it to be true.
he lifted his head slowly, eyes meeting yours with a quiet vulnerability that made your stomach sick.
“what?”
“everything they said.”
he didn’t answer at first. his gaze dropped to the floor, then to his hands, then back to you.
his voice came out low. “can we talk somewhere else?”
you nodded, and he exhaled like he had been holding that breath for months.
the balcony was dim and cool, the kind of quiet that makes people honest. you stepped out first, and ohyul followed, closing the door softly behind him. he stood there with his hands in his pockets, breathing slow and uneven. when he finally looked at you, something in him finally broke down.
“i didn’t want you to know,” he said.
you frowned. “know what?”
ohyul looked down at his hands. “that i was still like this. i didn’t want you to feel guilty.”
his voice softened. “i didn’t want you to think about me in that way, like i deserve to want you back. yn, i just… i miss you.”
the words were quiet, fragile, yet devastatingly honest.
he looked at you again and the yearning in his eyes was almost physical.
“i tried,” he said. “i stopped myself from texting you. i stopped myself from checking your page and i failed every. single. time.”
you smiled softly. “clearly.”
he smiled too, small and sad.
then, quietly, “when i first heard about anton, i thought i was fine. i told myself i was fine, but it felt like someone had reached into my chest and ripped my heart out”
he looked away. “i didn’t even know him. but suddenly he was everywhere. people kept saying his name. and every time they did, it felt like i was losing something i had already lost.”
he breathed out. “i hated that i cared. i hated that it hurt. i hated that i was jealous of someone who didn’t even know me.”
he shook his head. “i didn’t want to be that person.”
he looked at you again. “i hated that you looked so good after we broke up.”
you blinked, breath stuttering. the words hit before you could prepare for them.
“what?” it slipped out small and unsteady.
he swallowed.
“you’ve always have. i was trying so hard to convince myself i was okay. and then i would see you. you looked happy. you looked beautiful and i was happy for you, but part of me kept thinking i wish i was the person standing next to you.”
he stepped a little closer.
“i still remember everything about you. the cafè orders, i’d buy the same croissant and coffee then realize you no longer needed me to. the songs you play are stacked in a repeated playlist i can’t stop listening to. your polaroid photos are perfectly displayed just the way you left them on my desk.”
he looked at you like he was afraid you would disappear if he blinked.
“i hate that i still know you so well, but i think i would hate it more if i didn’t.”
you breathed in slowly.
“anton and i, it was never anything serious,” you said quietly.
ohyul went still.
“it wasn’t the same, not at all. he showed interest and i let him.”
“why?” he asked softly.
you hesitated. “because i thought it would make things easier. anton was just a distraction. he was nice i guess, but every time something happened, you were still the person i wanted to tell.”
ohyul looked away, blinking twice.
“i thought you moved on. that photo with baekgu really got to me” he said, as if your dog also belonged to him.
you huffed out a small chortle, shaking your head. “so it wasn’t just me you checked in with. i thought you were completely over me.”
a small laugh left him. “so we are both idiots.”
“a little.”
he looked at you again, truth sitting openly in his eyes.
“i don’t want to go back to who we were, pretending nothing happened. i just wanna do things differently. if you’ll let me, i want to be better.”
you knew you were supposed to keep your distance, not given so easily and have more caution. the one person you’d hope would stay by your side forever, gone within three words. yet the moment he pulled in closer, your whole body believed him. the lips that kissed your tears away, held you like he didn’t know how to let go, and loved you despite all your imperfections. everything settled back in like a home you’ve always known.
“only if you re-like my posts and follow me again,” you jokingly whispered.
he smiled softly. “consider it done, anything for you.”
you laughed quietly. ohyul looked at you like the sound alone was enough to make him melt. the quiet between you felt warm now, familiar.
his hand brushed yours, hesitant at first, but steadier when you didn’t pull away. both fingers curled around each others. you had forgotten how clingy he could be, how he always found a way to touch you, and you missed it more than expected.
he noticed your smile. “what?”
you shook your head. “nothing.”
“you’re smiling.”
“am i not allowed to?”
“you are.” he replied, letting out a smile you swore you could remember for life.
ohyul’s hands naturally found your waist, placing them there like they never left. you reciprocated by putting your arms over his shoulders, tenderly combing your fingers through his hair. oh how you’ve both missed this. he leaned in slightly, and you knew where it was going.
“wait.” pressing a hand to his chest. “we can’t kiss on woonhak’s balcony.”
ohyul whined a little, tugging you in closer. “why? no one is here.”
“that is not the point.”
“it kind of is.”
you laughed quietly. “it’s weird, not our place.”
“so…” a mischievous look slowly formed across his face.
you narrowed your eyes. “what are you thinking about?” asking him in a suspicious tone.
“my place or yours?”
you stared at him. “ohyul.”
“what?”
“are you seriously considering leaving your best friend’s birthday party just so you can make out with me?” you questioned while teasingly creating a space between.
he nodded immediately.
you laughed softly. “wow. no hesitation.”
“no. none at all.” ohyul commented, shaking his head while grinning ear to ear.
“you are unbelievable.” you replied, leaning in to give him a sweet peck on the cheek..
“you missed a spot.” ohyul insisted, puckering up his lips.
you tilted your head, smiling, and grabbed his hand. “come on.”
his eyes lit up. “wait, really?”
you pulled him toward the door. “let’s go.”
until you opened it.
everyone was gathered around woonhak.
“they’re about to sing happy birthday!” you chimed, locking eyes with the birthday boy. woonhak gave you a wink, nudging ryul and pointed at the both of you.
ohyul froze. “wait.”
“what?” you turned to his now sour face.
“i thought we were leaving.” he frowned a little, bummed out about having to deal another minute without your lips on his.
you smiled. “leaving?”
“yeah” he nodded sarcastically.
you laughed softly. “it’s woonhak’s birthday, spend some time with him.”
ohyul looked offended in the softest way. “after everything i said?”
“especially after everything you said.”
he pouted, holding your hand tighter than usual “you’re mean.”
“and you are dramatic.”
“only with you, my pretty woman.”
and you hated (loved) how easily that made you smile.
maybe things were not perfect yet. maybe there were still things to fix, but standing there, teasing him, watching him be clingy again felt warm, like finding something you thought you lost.
and this time, neither of you were letting go.
love, ddokyul

you tilted your head, smiling, and grabbed his hand. “come on.”
his eyes lit up.

𑣲𝄞 kian’s note: pt 2 out! i honestly had a struggle but very fun time writing this 🤞so cheesy i luv it! hope you guys enjoyed it + thank you for all the support 🥹🫶 i have something new coming!! i’ll post a small snippet soon
this idea came to me a while ago but i can’t settle on who to write about!! ofc chiller version than what actually happened because it was sorta out of hand
⋆˚࿔ synopsis: after a quiet breakup, ohyul tries to convince himself he's truly moving on, until he repeatedly notices the exact same user in the 'liked by' section of all your posts.
⋆˚࿔ , mentions of other idols (anton) | angst | more so ohyul’s pov | ex!ohyul who desperately wants you back… and occasionally stalks your instagram
kwon ohyul came to a conclusion that the last step into getting over you was to unlike all of your instagram posts. cracking his knuckles, ohyul let out a blow as if he was doing something athletic, not someone sitting in bed stalking his ex’s instagram at 1 a.m. on a random wednesday, and pulled up your profile. his thumb froze mid-scroll. new photos posted four hours ago, he hadn’t seen these yet. a shot of you at a cafe, smiling sweetly at the camera, and there it was, someone’s hand, passing you a drink just out of frame.
”whatever.” ohyul nonchalantly whispered as if you and whoever’s hand that belonged to could hear him. he didn’t bother sliding left to see the rest.
the first few were easy, a photo of your dog, another gathering, same old same old. the little red hearts drained out one by one, and he felt almost proud of himself. deleting the evidence could delete the feeling underneath it. tap by tap, until finally he scrolled to a post too familiar for his liking. several neatly arrange polaroid films. your eyes turning into crescents laughing at something off screen, at him actually because he’d been the one holding the camera. he'd assumed you'd take those down eventually. you hadn't. some small, stupid part of him had let that mean something.
“one like should be fine.” ohyul mumbled, immediately hating himself for saying that. he unliked it anyway.
done. he dropped the phone onto his chests and started at the ceiling, waiting for the relief to kick in like it should have. it didn’t come. instead his mind drifted back to those six new photos sitting at the top. ohyul knew he no longer had the right to even still have your instagram, yet he picked up his phone anyway.
the warmth of your smile and the drink he knew by heart. a selfie that looked like something you would’ve sent to him. laughing at the camera like you weren’t even trying. ohyul hated that you looked good, better than good. he stood there with it longer than he meant to, trying to place what exactly was different. you'd always been pretty to him. that wasn't news. but this was something else and it strangely annoyed him. he scrolled to the next photo, feeling the ache that so desperately wanted to go away.
and then he spotted a username.
‘antinitonny’ sitting right there in the liked-by list, same as always except it wasn’t the same at all because he didn’t recognize it. another scroll down, same username. next post, there it was again. suddenly the polaroid films had antinitonny’s name plastered all over them like it didn't matter that ohyul was the one behind the camera, like his kisses behind the scenes of those photos meant nothing.
a worse, quieter thought approached. did antinitonny take the new photos? was that his hand in the photo?
ohyul tapped the user, half expecting a parade of posts with highlights but instead was greeted by whoever anton was. two posts and one highlight labeled ‘🏊’. just a guy with a few selfies, swim pics, plus a dog, one ohyul personally knew.
seeing anton there, sitting so comfortably in the space where ohyul’s name used to be, made his heart sink. someone else was close enough to take your photos, close enough to make you laugh like that.
the realization settled heavy in his chest, heavier than anything he’d felt all night. unliking your posts hadn’t helped. pretending he was fine hadn’t helped. seeing anton only made it clearer.
he wasn’t over you. not even close.
love, ddokyul
𑣲𝄞 kian’s note: yay!! first post kinda nervy :] what if i said anton isnt exactly with reader 😏
