The first thing Ellie felt upon waking up was a throbing headache. Her brain felt like it was about to turn into porridge. Then ache in the rest of her body, every muscle, bone and organ were buzzing with painful electric discharges that faded eventually only to pick back up. Her throat was dry and sore as if she was yelling for days on end. God, she felt like absolute garbage...
As she laid there trying to take deep breaths to hopefully subdue the pain the girl started noticing things about her surroundings, as much as she could with her eyes closed. The room was very chilly, but the air was stuffy as if nobody bothered to open the window in months. And they definitely should have. It stinks in here. And the scent was somewhat familiar... Something very light and thin was covering her body, so thin she could barely feel it. It wasn't a blanket, the thing did nothing to keep the cold out, and it was draped over her head too...
As the realization hit her Ellie nearly jumped up from where she laid. Her eyes scanned the room. It was devoid of furniture for the most part, only a desk, some cabinets with tools and a long dissection table. All around her were corpses covered by the same thin white fabric as her. A morgue...
"Shit..." the girl cursed quietly and instantly went into a coughing fit. She covered her mouth trying to keep it down. God knows, coughing is not one of the things you'd want to hear in a dark empty morgue.
Thankfully, there was no one here. Sure, she could tell by the fact that all lights were off, but it never hurt to make sure. With her night vision, the room appeared dimly lit, everything clearly visible just in shades of grey and dark cyan. The girl hopped off from her "bed" and began making her way towards the door. She needed to get out. Nothing good can come out of dealing with the hospitals so that's top priority for now. Another sudden sting pierced her throat. Okay, first priority - get some water. Close second - leave the hospital or whatever this place was. Not much harder anyway-
Ellie grabbed her arms as her body curled in on itself. An attempt to go invisible sending burning sensation through her whole body so she quickly stopped. She tried to phase her hand through the door only for the pain to course through her again making it feel like all the ectoplasm was sizzling under her skin.
"Stupid lab coats and their stupid trash..." she mumbled quietly remembering just how many devices those freaks tried on her to prevent her from just becoming intangible and escaping. It seemed whatever effect they had still hasn't worn off completely. Meaning she'll have to navigate the place the old fashioned way. Can't be that much harder, right?
Though the girl was quickly reminded just how annoying stalking the halls can be without the option of walking through walls. Not knowing even an approximate direction of the exit was a pain, just like any security guards she could possibly run into, not to mention the cameras. From what she's gathered while wandering the maze-like corridors, it was probably a military base. Very plain and lacking in detail, also without a single window in sight which was irritating to say the least. The girl was careful to stick to the dark corners so that whatever cameras she spotted would still have a hard time spotting her. It would at least give her some time before the guy monitoring them realized something was up. With how things were going so far, maybe escape wasn't really an option for now... given that it's probably a military base, she probably won't be able to escape without transforming. Her best bet would be to find a secure place to recover enough to at least be able to go invisible and then make a run for it. Maybe she could find a janitor closet that hasn't been used in a while?
Just as Ellie was weighing her options stalking through a dark hall with a bunch of doors (dorms, maybe? How did she go from morgue to dorms? Was someone stupid enough to place them a bit too close together or was she that bad with directions?), she spotted light coming from further ahead, from behind a door that was open just a crack. It wasn't bright, likely coming from a street light from outside. Meaning, she's finally found a window!
As she excitedly (but quietly) entered the room she was greeted with a sight of an absolute mountain of a man standing at the counter with a glass of water. If it was possible, the girl's blood would run even colder as she quickly darted for the nearest cover.
"I know you're here. Come out."
"Shit!" The girl thought, frantically looking for an escape route. She tried turning intangible again, or invisible, or anything. The only response from her body was another wave of burning pain. She was trapped...
She swallowed hard before deciding that right now the best course of action would be to show herself and not agitate the man. She carefully stepped out from behind the cabinet and faced him. The giant was wearing a mask now, staring at her with wide eyes, almost as if he'd seen a... oh, right...
After a second of silence Ellie's eyes landed on a glass of water that he was still holding, her dry throat reminding her about her previous plan.
"Can you pour me a glass too?"
She said it without even thinking and if the situation wasn't already as tense as it was, she'd facepalm herself for doing it. On the other hand, what did she have to lose? If the man was planning to do something to her, asking that probably wouldn't make her situation much worse than it already is.
Another awkward beat of silence.
"You're alive." He said, or asked? She wasn't really sure from his tone.
"Yeah. I'm alive." She replied just as bluntly, "So, can I have some water?"
The giant bended down slightly, handing her the glass. She made a few cautious steps forward and took it, downing the whole thing in mere seconds.
"Now you have some explaining to do."
