Smoke Break
not gone, not gone.
oh, i’m gonna be wounded
oh, i’m gonna be your bruise~
“ What is there to do but try and silence his fear, to calm the chill up the spine, by turning on the bedroom light? The boy gropes blindly for the switch. As his room is illuminated, the angel disappears into the gloomy blue night. But the light that makes the angel go will leave the boy nowhere to hide—from his body or his mind. ”
Melchior and Moritz during Touch Me
do you ever think about how wendla and moritz were chosen to be deaf to symbolize how hearing people (Melchior) can easily manipulate deaf people? or how society doesn’t treat them the same because of their lack of hearing? that Ernst is also deaf but Hanschen treats him the same as a hearing person (asking about the sound of the bells) to show there is not isolation and that he loves him no matter what??? or if it’s the characters who need more support, the voices, to show the depth of emotions inside of them? I have so many questions and no answers
i just. when owen tried on isabel's magic dress and maddy blushed and smiled and hid in her hand. the intimacy in how she drew the symbol on the back of owen's neck. an out lesbian showing those feelings for a closeted, pre-transition trans girl who doesn't even seem to know that's true of herself yet. knowing her before she knows herself. don't speak to me i'm literally dust on the floor
i saw the tv glow is awesome bc its terrifying in a transgender "if i keep pushing this down and down and down i will be slowly letting myself die" way but also its even just scary as "a man in the moon traps you in a dimension out of time built to psychologically torture you with suburbia"
oh boy I can't wait to watch this SPOOKY movie about a WEIRD OLD TV SHOW surely it won't give me an extremely striking narrative about being transgender
so i saw i saw the tv glow and i’m normal. so normal.
I saw the tv glow is crazy bc it’s a movie that genuinely makes you watch how your life could fall apart. Makes you watch how heavily repression can affect your life and how dangerous and sad it can be. But at the same time it’s like “hey, if you’re still alive there is still time, so keep going.”
I’ve genuinely never watched a movie that has given me so much sadness, but let’s me find a sense of hope, no matter how bittersweet, within that devastation.
I saw the TV glow, too.
i saw the tv glow is a beautiful tragic queer film about how repressiing yourself will destroy you from the inside out. that said the in-universe tara/isabel the pink opaque femslash fandom probably went so hard
“i knew i needed to come back and save you”
i saw the tv glow said to come out you have to kill a part of yourself, the version of yourself you've created to protect yourself, the imaginary vision of yourself that was fed to you
