the n2n fandom do not talk about Aftershocks enough
Jack Wolfe deciding they wanted to play Gabe as a real person with real emotions is I think objectively the best choice. like I don’t think Gabe is real at all, but we see Gabe from Diana’s perspective for most of the musical and to Diana he is a real person with real emotions, so it makes sense to play him that way and when we don’t see him from Diana’s perspective (in songs like “I’ve Been” and “I Am The One (Reprise)”) the emotions that Gabe portrays (sadness and guilt in “I’ve Been” and anger and desperation in “I Am The One (Reprise)”) are those of Dan. They’re all the feelings that Dan has actively been repressing showing you that Gabe is grief personified. like i feel as though if Gabe were played as simply a device for Diana’s mental illness or as purely sort of sinister and vindictive, it takes away the fact that navigating mental illness and grief is extremely difficult and by Gabe being portrayed as a real person it makes it easier for the audience to see why the Goodmans make the choices they do and sympathize with them rather than it being clear when something is a “bad” choice because we have been viewing Gabe as sinister and simply Diana’s illness.
I have a feeling they won’t give me this in s2 but need Whitaker to be gay so bad, like him and santos gay/lesbian bffs would be so fire.
Also I can kinda see it, he was a theology major from a small farm who seems to have a complicated relationship with his parents (because when Mr. Milton said “your parents must be proud” he hesitated and gave a “yeah, i guess”, though that could be because he was unhoused) and like the switch from theology to medicine is an interesting switch that could’ve been caused by a number of things, but realization that he’s gay could absolutely be one of them.
Though I know they’re at trying to set up Kim and Dennis, though he didn’t seem to react to it (though could be because he didn’t realize and was busy being embarrassed from having to change his scrubs AGAIN).
I do just think it would be fun if he was gay or also would be fun if he realized he was gay because of a small crush on Robby caused by all the touching and manhandling that he goes through 😭😭
Charles Rowland comparing him and his "platonic best friend" to Orpheus and Eurydice 0.002 seconds before saying he's not in love with him is truly just the most out of pocket moment

Friendly reminder that Edwin didn’t doubt for a second that the Charles in hell was actually him.
I like to think it’s because hell is meant to be torture and Charles has only ever made Edwin feel happy. To him Charles is his light and the best thing to happen to him. So, Edwin doesn’t think hell would ever be able to understand all the good that is Charles Rowland enough to even attempt to mimic him.
And if I were to say Edwin and Charles were like River Song and the Doctor, would I be wrong???
Like River’s “He’s certainly not in love enough to find himself standing [in danger] with me” is very Edwin to me. And of course, like the Doctor, Charles is there for Edwin and is surprised he’d ever doubt that.
Not to be overly emotional about this but if you pause the night nurse beurocratic paperwork scenes, you'll find that the file is labeled "PAYNE/ROWLAND".
They have a shared file folder guys
I like forgot Arcane season 2 was like coming out and now I have to deal with watching the inevitable fall of my favorite ship… JayVik hell is real I fear
