I'm a 38 year old female Aromantic Asexual and this blog is intended to make interacting with the Megamind fandom easier without spamming my personal blog. This will be Megamind exclusively. And since i'm aro-ace don't expect any porn.

question for the megamind fandom

Ok, so in recent years i’ve gotten into Disney Pin trading. Along the way that segued into fantasy pin collecting (that’s when fans produce and sell limited editions of their own pin designs. like this: 

It’s a surprisingly large community with a ton of amazing pins and i decided i wanted to get into making fantasy pins myself. Mostly Disney, but not necessarily exclusively Disney.

I was looking through instagram and just wound up trying to look up Megamind related pins. There’s none. Like NONE. I couldn’t find a single one. And we all know how under merchandised Megamind is.

So I thought maybe I should do it. But here’s my question. Is that even something the fandom wants? How fantasy pins tend to work is that the designer does a presale and then uses those funds to produce the actual pins. And it’s rather pricey. Fantasy Pin sellers sell 3inch pins for around 35 dollars. (or more if they are a popular seller, i’m talking in the 100 dollar range, it’s pretty nuts)

I myself don’t like to spend more than 25 dollars on a single pin so that’s the price i’d be wanting to charge. And based on my research so far i’d have to presale at least 50 or so pins to be able to finance this. I don’t even know if there are enough active fans around that would be interested in something like this.

So this is basically what my idea is, i want to do 4 designs, one each for Megs, Metro, Roxanne, and Minion. 25 dollars each, or 80 for all 4. They would be pretty similar to the Disney Heroine Profile Pins that have been really popular of late. These:

Same size, (3 inches) hard enamel, with the sandblasted background. I’ve drawn up 2 designs so far, Roxanne and Minion:

So, thoughts? Interest? Is this nuts?

Thoughts? Is Megamind’s pose okay? i figure if anything he’s the one most people are going to want the most so he’s the one i most need to get right.

So about a couple years ago I posted the above about making fantasy pins. There wound up not being enough fandom interest to actually go through with it and so I put the designs aside and basically just forgot about it.

Well recently my kitten Ridian got really sick and his treatment is expensive (but working, he's doing really well) and I've been trying to fundraise. So I was thinking, if pins are too costly what about stickers? I have everything I need to make them myself. Would there be any interest in that?

I was thinking of charging 2 dollars per sticker. They'd be about 2 to 3 inches and colored with full shading and colored lineart. I wanted to see if there would be any interest before I put the time into completing the designs. I never got any further than what is shown in the original post.

i’ve been on new meds for a little less than a week, which i think is probably not enough time for them to get into my system, but…i feel better and i feel like writing? and if this is a placebo effect, i intend to make the most of it, so i’ve started editing the giant pile of words called cold fusion.

i’m planning on updating it on ffnet and posting it bit by bit on ao3, but i’ll leave the original version more or less unchanged on my livejournal in case anyone is particularly attached to it. (i do want to change a couple things on lj, but nothing crucial, and idk when i’ll get around to that.) that’s the plan, but we’ll see what happens. i’m seriously hoping the meds are actually working and this burst of productivity isn’t just a flash in the pan, because i WANT to do this, i’ve wanted to do this for AGES, but boy howdy i have my work cut out for me and i just haven’t been in a place where i can make it happen. if you’re a praying type, please pray for me, i need all the help i can get.

also i just read through the back half of twelve days and while i’m happy with it overall, i did identify some stuff i’d like to change and trim down. there’s some wordvomit that probably doesn’t need to be there, some characterization issues i want to fix, some pacing issues…not things i would have noticed when writing it, but after a couple years of working on other projects, they jump out at me. i’m not sure how significant the changes will be there.

i have no idea if i’ll ever wind up bringing my livejournal to current. that’s at the bottom of my priorities; the formatting for the chapters is tedious and frankly i just don’t wanna. so if i make it all the way through editing twelve days (please lord let me get all the way through editing twelve days) and you decide you really really miss the original chapters, contact me and i’ll…..i dunno, i’ll email them to you or something.

i think i can finally acknowledge to myself that the amount i hate some of my earlier decisions has increased to the point where it’s actively keeping me from moving forward with the story. i’ve spent years writing this monster and i want to feel good about the finished product. the only way that’s going to happen is by changing some stuff.

so, that’s the plan for now. i hope i can manage it. wish me luck!

I have two (and a half) big things tripping me up.  I know what I’m going to do about one (and a half) of them.  The other one I’m still going in circles on; I don’t know what the right decision is or if it even matters.

Fair enough, though I assure you 'not good enough' is really not something you need to worry about as far as your writing ability goes. I've never read anything bad by you.

Word of warning about posting on Ao3 though, unless you know something I don't, when you copy paste your chapter it will eat your formatting and you'll lose all your italics. And as someone who tends to use a lot of italics in dialogue it's been a real problem for me.

So am i officially the only one who thinks Roxanne and Evelyn from The Incredibles look NOTHING alike? Not even slightly? Roxanne could do all the meth in the world and it wouldn’t change her face to that extent.

ah, the megamind fandom. the gift that keeps on giving. and by giving, i mean breaking my heart. over, and over, and over, and over,

the way he looks at himself though and you can see the self loathing, the I just pushed away the only person that actually cares about me. And then he puts on the disguise, and and he smiles. He’s still obviously in so much pain, but at least he doesn’t look like a monster, like this he looks a normal person, someone Roxanne could like.  It’s just so much of his I’m evil is tied up in his appearance, he doesn’t even realise that people like Roxanne are judging him for his actions.

What I particularly love is his own self-hatred is followed up and showcased when he’s unveiled in the next scene: during his date with Roxanne.

When she mindlessly adjusts his Holowatch as they’re kissing, Megamind reacts not only in horror to his true self being revealed to her personally, but to every other person in the restaurant.

Harbouring such a clear and deep desire to be someone, anyone else, at this point, his cry of, “Don’t look at me!” might be a lot deeper than we’re first led to believe.

So this is my little oc, Megamind’s 7 year old daughter Nyla dressed as a Luna Moth. Costume made by Uncle Minion, of course. Don’t let the hair fool you, she’s as bald as her daddy but really self conscious about it so she maintains a large collection of wigs.

I never ignore canon. It seems disrespectful to the artists and writers that produced them. I would feel horrible if i created a world and characters and then people who called themselves fans took them and basically said “Yeah some of this is nice, but allow me to ‘fix’ it.” It strikes me as mental art theft.

You are playing in someone else’s sandbox, so don’t get your tailfeathers twisted when the creators don’t drop their plans for their product to conform to fandom demands.
