I've been part of the fandom pretty much since the movie came out in 2010, and we have been a very prolific fandom. In order that the good stuff from the early days not be lost, I have accumulated this master list.

Fic Writers' (and Readers') Guide to the Megaverse. A collection of canon details carefully collected from the movie, The Art of Megamind book, and other DreamWorks Animation sources, with extensive fan discussion.

The Comic Books: Dreamworks put these out as promotional material. TBQH I'm not such a fan of these but fic writers have been mining them for ideas ever since they came out, so they're worth knowing about. animefreakkatie's Collection of Storyboards, Concept Art, Illustrations and Fun Links: posted in 2013, this is still the best source for art from the planning stages of the movie. Some dead links, but there's still a fair amount of good stuff in there.

Deleted and alternate scenes plus ads featuring characters from the movie. Some of them are just highlights from something longer but I still appreciate this compilation that has so many in one place.

Fanfic Recommendations: my personal favorites among the many, many fics this wonderful community has produced.

Part 1: canon-compliant completed fics. (Note: I've decided to be a little flexible about what counts as canon-compliant. Most of the list was canon-compliant during the many years that canon consisted of the original movie and The Button of Doom. Those stories are staying even if they contradict the 2024 material. If someone wants me to split this into two lists depending on which ones are MMvsDS and Megamind Rules! compliant, I will consider that.)

The Megamind Musical was written by @setepenre-set and performed by a volunteer cast at Megacamp in 2018. The Script is on AO3. The Recorded songs are on Soundcloud.

There has been at least one other partial effort at a Megamind musical. I will add a link to it if I run across it.

Shameless self-promotion: under the name joanhello I have written and posted more than two dozen Megamind fics on ao3 and ffn.The one I'm going to recommend the most is "Where He Came From" because it's the only fic I know of that tackles the question: in the time between declaring "Metrocity is mine!" which was late afternoon, and the taking of City Hall, which was at night, what were Megamind and Minion up to?

Playful rudeness largly only works for people who have context for eachother or if it's an already established form of interaction, neither of which are true here. mOst situations where it's chill to do this with someone you don't know well are where the person you're talking to conceivably can get other social cues indicating that you are joking (voice, face and body language), all of which are lacking online in text. This fact is especially true when doing so as an anonymous message without even an account name to check out.

-10000 pts as this is a person who has repeatedly established they do not like this kind of joke from anons without any context.

You should take some time to read @3liza's post documenting the Phantom Report Bug (which she deserves praise for doing, thank you eliza) and see how fucking broken Tumblr's report tool is. I also want to reiterate something she is once again correct about: no one files bug reports. I have first hand experience working at Tumblr and I remember having to tell web devs on Staff "i saw a post about someone talking about a bug" and they were unaware because no one followed through to file a bug. I have fixed bugs that I saw people posting about that were in my domain (I'm a mobile dev) but were not in the system. No this is not an endorsement of "complain about it enough and eventually someone will see it", this is an endorsement of "file a bug report directly to computer companies and people will most likely read it and probably fix it". I mean it this is not a Tumblr-only thing. I've seen this at every company I've worked for. Just fucking file a bug report please I beg you, software gets complicated and the devs are just unaware that there's a bug until you bring it to your attention. And they want to fix the bug! I promise!

the best fanfiction you've ever read was written by a woman in her 40s before she made dinner for her kids. it was written by a teenager after school when they should've been studying for a history test. and a barista came up with the idea while they cleaned the espresso machine and busser fact-checked it on their break and the post-doc edited between writing grant proposals and the nurse apologized for typos in the notes after a long shift and behind every drabble and one-shot and multi-chapter fic there is a person with a wonderful and interesting and chaotic life and it is such a privilege that we get to be apart of it because they decided to do this thing we all share, for fun.

I've given myself heat exhaustion AGAIN (heck, I hope it's only heat exhaustion, rip) and I am not here for it ffs so to make sure y'all know about it, imma share the signs of heat exhaustion!

Heat exhaustion is quite literally your body getting too hot and Exhausting itself to cope. Heatstroke is your body Failing To Cope.

Heat Exhaustion signs include:

You get a headache that Will Not Go Away

You feel confused and dizzy (balance who? Idk her)

You don't feel hungry but you feel sick as well (this sucks and happens a lot in high heat so try and snack regularly)

Sweating and clammy skin like the kind that has people go "you're freezing!" because you've sweated so much you literally end up with a chill on your skin

Cramps. Feckin cramps. Arms. Legs. Stomach. They suck ass.

You have a heckin fast pulse or you're hyperventilating like you've just had a Scare

Your body temp is over 38°c (because you're literally boiling like a lobster in a pot)

You are Beyond Thirsty and no matter what you drink it Does Not Abate

If you end up experiencing any of these symptoms, or multiple, and you're in a hot/warm environment, then sit your ass down in the shade, get something to drink, and get a damp cloth on your head or a change of clothes that are cool.

Basically, stop what you're doing and give your body a chance to Not Keep Boiling

Heat exhaustion is NOT THE SAME as a heatstroke.

Heatstroke is So Much Worse™.

Heatstroke signs include:

Still feeling like utter shite 30 minutes after you sat your ass down, rested in a cool place, and rehydrated

Not actually sweating even though you really do feel like a lobster in a pot that has the heat up High

Your body temp is 40°c+ (which is bad btw, that's temp for causing your to pass out etc)

Hyperventilating/fast breathing or actual shortness of breath (I struggle with this because asthma so I'm always like "idk if I got this oops)

Feeling confused but in a like "I don't know what's going on, I can't think, I have no idea about anything, someone help me please I'm crossing into traffic and don't even realise" way

Having a fit/seizure because your body temp is so high your brain is Actually Getting Boiled In Your Skull 🙃 [upside down smiley emoji]

Passing out and not actually responding or waking up from a brief fainting spell (this is the Serious™ kind of passing out that has doctors going "oh shit, we need an IV STAT!" or whatever it is they say when Shit Is Going Down)

Heatstroke can be really dangerous if it isn't treated quickly so please don't ignore these signs. Right now, I'm in a cool environs, with hydration, and am avoiding moving and am gonna have a nap because I'm going very dizzy, can't focus properly, have a headache, and am only coherent here because I'm HyperFocusing on this post. I can't even understand words being said to me right now hence nap, hydration, and cool environs.

So please, y'all, take care of yourselves. Seriously.

Some additional hot weather tips

If you have low blood sugar, but are having a hard time eating because you feel crappy from the heat, try sucking on some hard candy

If possible, after you get out of the sun/heat drink Gatorade or something similar to replenish what you've been loosing from sweating

When drinking water or Gatorade (no matter what you have it is important to stay hydrated!) it is important to drink slowly, even if you are very thirsty, because if you drink too fast the water might come back up

In hot weather, bandanas are very useful, even as a preventative measure, because you can pour some water from you bottle (or anything else) on them, and then put them on your head (as mentioned above) or neck. A few other areas help as well, like armpits, but I would personally recommend your neck.

It is not recommended to use a fan at or above 99°f or 35°c, because they can actually start to make the heat worse. (I know these are different temps, the recommendations come from different governments, 35°c is around 95°f, but this also depends on conditions like humidity, so just use your best judgement with this info)

Most importantly, if you think you are getting heat stroke call 911 or your equivalent, heat stroke kills several people each year, even in my area, where it normally only gets to 100°f for a few days each year

For fahrenheit users,

38°c = 100.4°f

40°c = 104°f

Remember to stay safe in warm weather

Well shit, I had most of those Sunday Morning, can heat exhaustion continue to hit even after you've moved into a cool environment, rehydrated, eaten, taken a long warmish-coolish shower and then slept for 7 hours?

Because those symptoms match the the symptoms I had last Sunday and made me feel like shit upon waking up.

They can yes @artisanscribbles because heat exhaustion takes time to go away. You may well feel a bit under the weather for a few days after experiencing it, and any sort of exposure to heat without proper precautions can make it flare up again and worsen into heatstroke.

It's why it's so important to rest and keep hydrated when it's warm. I hope you eventually felt better and maintained your hydration levels with water and other fluids.

I had three days of feeling the after effects of heat exhaustion myself and felt like I had a cold, a constant headache, and random chills all at the same time as having a dry throat, not sweating properly, dizziness, and even muscle cramps from the rapid dehydration I experienced.

In general, to anyone who sees or reblogs this:

It's really important to take care of yourself, both immediately after you recognise you've got heat exhaustion, and in the long term. It can affect you for days after.

Please take care of yourselves aka TAKER:

Take breaks

Avoid too much sun

Keep hydrated

Eat regularly

Rest

Oh lord, probably either road trips or...idk what the term would be. One-sided permabonding? "Mating" for life? I hesitate to use "mate for life" because in my head, copulation isn't actually necessary. I've got like, three of these scenarios rattling around in my head, even though only one of them has actually made it onto my AO3.

18: deleted sentence or paragraph from a published fic

From Life Left Behind, the very end of chapter 31, after the Big Conversation and before the Hot Bath. If memory serves, I was editing and I thought it might be nice for Roxanne to offer an 'out,' but then this happened:

Roxanne hesitates. "Do you need to use the bathroom first?"

And then she splutters into peals of shocked laughter at the expression of absolute, total befuddlement Megamind sends her.

"I'm—oh, no—"

"I BEG your pardon?"

"I was trying to give you an out," she manages. "Oh, god. Sorry, just—your face!—no, sorry, that was," struggling to compose herself, "that was code for do you maybe want a moment alone?"

"Aha," he exclaims, brows rocketing up his forehead in comprehension. "Aha! I see! Yes that DOES make more sense than, I note you were crying; do you perhaps need to shit as well?"

Roxanne dissolves all over again. Gripping his shoulder and dropping her forehead onto her knuckles.

"No, I do not need a moment," Megamind says, a grin in his voice. "I might have, a minute ago, but then I suppose you threw me far enough into left field to restore my factory settings. I do not know how you do it," he continues when she just laughs harder. "Truly! I do not! I mean, I was CRYING-crying, do you have ANY IDEA how bent out of shape I have to get before some of those noises happen? And then you said, what, eight words, and"—he lets out a pitch-perfect record-scratch and Roxanne wheezes—"voila! I am talking in full sentences! AND: being funny while doing so. Apparently. Ha HA."

"Oh my god," Roxanne squeaks out, "oh god my abs, help—"

"You are a miracle, Roxanne. Best of all possible humans, on this best of all possible worlds. Now," gently tugging her hand, jostling her up from him, "this has been a magnificent success of a conversation, but il faut cultiver notre jardin. Come on. Hot tub."

I didn't want to cheapen the sincere moment by making it funny, and I wasn't totally enamoured of the Voltaire reference out of nowhere at the end there, so I switched it back to the more serious ending the chapter had originally.
