paper girls: in the early hours after halloween of 1988, four 12-year-old newspaper delivery girls uncover the most important story of all time. stand by me meets war of the worlds in this mysterious young adult adventure. (image comics)
i’ve finally watched the series! the characterization had to be my favourite thing, all of them seemed to have the same temperament and struggles and style as the comics. it was amazing to see that come to life on screen. i can understand why the plot changed a bit as well, however, i just wish there was a bit more of the comic book flare. (ex. more colorization, dinosaurs, clones, settings) i still really loved it and definitely recommend checking it out!
not posting in over a month: 👍
coming back just to post the picrew i made of myself: 👍
my number one fear rn is that dylan minnette kept looking at me cause he secretly has tumblr or lydia does and he recognized me from this god forsaken app.
ONE YEAR AGO TODAY:
RIOT GRRRL ALBUMS: LIFE RIPS BY MOMMY LONG LEGS
Released: March 13, 2015
Length: 16 mins and 52 secs
Amount of Songs: 7
Favourite Song on Album: Sorority Girls
Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
My Thoughts: I love how the beat to the songs are super upbeat and their voices are extremely feminized and come off as ditzy as well as how their lyrics often play into the delusion of being these stereotypes of women that they demolish the image of with cadence and using other lyrics to demonstrate the issues or their disgust with the actions and people partaking in/forcing people into these roles.

jordan theresa: she is a youtuber, who does social and political commentary. i really like her in depth analysis’ of issues like the normalization of lolita and daddy issues, excessive hoarding of makeup and the issues of shows like the biggest loser, i wanna marry harry and the horrible realities behind the reality show there is something about miriam.

Qualeasha Wood: an amazing artist that i believe primarily works in weaving.
i wish that life were as simple as good and evil, right and wrong but “sometimes the only choice we can make is how we will die.” that’s what someone important to me used to tell me. life can be full of pain and suffering and being apart of a community of people who are fighting to be or for women to be able to be not just a one dimensional figure that men create in their head but to be who we or they are, human beings, i think its important to acknowlege that sometimes doing what we believe is good and right...hurts. we make mistakes. we try to fight for ourselves and everyone around us and sometimes it feels like we are martyrs. you are not a bad person for standing up, for changing, for trying to be a good person. i hope this makes any form of sense and maybe reassures someone else who isn’t me, i often have to remind myself of this. the thing to take away from this very messy ramble is that i am so proud of you guys for being brave and surviving the hurt within this misogonistic society that we live in.
feminist rec week 16:
scream: wes craven re-invented and revitalised the slasher-horror genre with this modern horror classic, which manages to be funny, clever and scary, as a fright-masked knife maniac stalks high-school students in middle-class suburbia. craven is happy to provide both tension and self-parody as the body count mounts - but the victims aren't always the ones you'd expect. (google)
my all time favourite horror movie constantly shows sidney prescott defending herself and breaking the horror rules she’s forced into.
feminist rec week 15:
pen15: This comedy series depicts middle school as it really happened. Comics Maya Erskine and Anna Konkle play versions of themselves as teenage outcasts in the year 2000, during a time when the best day of your life can turn into the worst with the stroke of a gel pen. Adult Maya and Anna -- as their younger selves -- are surrounded by actual teenagers as they re-experience some of the ups and downs of middle school life. They get a lot of unexpected attention on the first day of school and later face the temptation to do drugs. (google)
i binge watched this show recently and it perfectly depicts the horrible and awkward experience of being a weird loner girl in middle school.
feminist rec week (it’s definitely been a month) 14:
daria: brainy, sardonic daria morgendorffer tries to fly under the radar at lawndale high school, and she's doing a pretty good job of it: her self-esteem teacher can't even remember her name. not that low self-esteem is a problem for daria, who explains that `i have low esteem for everyone else'. frankly, she couldn't care less about the airheads in the `in' crowd, like her sister, quinn, or cheerleader brittany. at least best friend jane lane is readily available any time daria needs a break from all the clueless masses around them. (google)
i think it’s almost time for a re-watch.
feminist recs week 13:
harley quinn 2021 annual: Kevin here! You know, Harley’s sidekick, and your favorite new character? I know Harley usually does these solicits, but she’s a little tied up at the moment. Like, literally. See, there’s a new villain in Gotham calling himself Keepsake, and you know how Gotham villains are: definite psychological issues.
while the first issue is narrated by harley’s friend kevin, it explores both characters healing from the abuse of joker. it’s such a beautiful depiction of the aftermath of surviving abuse.

i love this song so much, i think it’s something about the manic energy in relation to the promiscuousness and sadness of this song just feels so nice to listen to at full volume. i think it’s important to note this was my sixth song on my spotify wrapped and i found it in june and started actively listening to it a lot in september.

mixtape (2021): In 1999, 12-year-old Beverly discovers a broken mixtape made by her late parents. She sets out to find the songs -- and learn more about her mom and dad. (google)
this movie is such a wholesome depiction of coming of age and discovering the punk scene.
feminist rec week 10:
fleabag: A dry-witted woman, known only as Fleabag, has no filter as she navigates life and love in London while trying to cope with tragedy. The angry, grief-riddled woman tries to heal while rejecting anyone who tries to help her, but Fleabag continues to keep up her bravado through it all. Comic actress Phoebe Waller-Bridge stars as the titular character on the series, which is based on Waller-Bridge's 2013 one-woman show of the same name. (google)
