TL;DR, Found a game about cleaning up magic books, ended up accidentally speedrunning it.
About a month ago, a tiny little game called Librarian: Tidy Up the Arcane Library! released on Steam. Itās a silly little game where youāre stuck in a wizardās library thatās been tossed around by a fairy, and you have to use all the magical and organizational tools at your disposal to put all the books back on all the shelves, sorted by category, shelved with the rest of their series, in order.
I got this game 3 days ago. In that time, I have played through the gameās experience twice.
The first time was an exercise in discovery. Learning all the sections, all the spell abilities, realizing 10 minutes from the end that thereās a whole slew of minor abilities that would have saved me hours of trekking to the one staircase over and over againā¦
That first run took me nearly 5 hours, split over 2 nights. It was kinda fun, it scratched my brain a little. A lot, actually. It scratched my brain a lot, and I couldnāt explain it.
I also couldnāt explain why I couldnāt stop thinking about how much faster I could go. Well, besides the achievement daring me to do it in less than 3 hours.
During my exploratory run, Iād been learning which abilities were most useful. There was a spell, Assemble, that would bring matching books straight to my hand that I hadnāt invested enough levels (yes, thereās a level-up mechanic) into to realize how essential it was until I was a decent way through. Once I had that, I had been flying.
So I decided to prioritize that. I would go into my completed library, and research the 3-book series, the smallest ones, but the hardest to find. The thought was that if I could rush these in the beginning, when I had no abilities, it would be easier to level, to dump all my points into strengthening Assemble, use it to fill out larger and larger book sets until it was fully leveled, go on to max out Auto-Shelve (you can imagine what that does), and fly through it at lightning speed.
The strategy didnāt go perfectly, I hadnāt researched the 3-sets well enough, and it was hard to use them to start me off because they were so rare, but I would put books from incomplete 3-sets in a little pile, and once I had the levels I needed to do even the most basic casts of Assemble, it was just enough to take 2 books Iād already found and complete the set, which would get me more levels, an so on, and so forthā¦
ā¦And so the engine ran. I was all over the library. I was weaving manual collection of small sets in during the cooldown after using Assemble for one of the larger 10-book series. Once I had my setup, I whittled away at the challenge with all the efficiency I could muster.
I didnāt make it in 3 hours. I blew past it, and finished with a time of 1:54:55.
And I know I could have been faster.
Iām not a speedrunner; This isnāt how I usually think about games, but somehow, the combination of quick play time, low skill floor, room for improvement, incentive to succeed, and just overall game vibe made something click.
I will probably be doing at least one more run of this. I hope to get a sub-1:30:00, but weāll see how it goes.
āscientists donāt want you knowā is a phrase that always cracks me up because if you actually meet a scientist they will be shaking and crying like an overstimulated chihuahua with the need to let you know
I've never played a more perfect card in the 10 years I've been playing this game
I really like how the scientology speedrunning trend is developing, in this clip we see that the participants are
Not deterred by the closed door
Working as a group
Protecting their identities
Inflicting material costs to the institution via property destruction
Getting away at the end
These ideas were not all here from the beginning. They are genuinely gaining experience that can be applied elsewhere
The church of scientology is on tumblr and they are sending me anon asks telling me that they can't even commit to reporting a post
imagine if you hired a painter to paint your house and you tell them you want it blue and then you come back to see theyre in the middle of painting your house pink so you go hey stop. thats not what i asked for. and theyre like i just dont want to ruin your lovely house this color suits it so much better trust me. and you go No, i asked for blue give me blue??? and the painter is like alright alright. and then they paint your house purple and when you go this still isnt blue they say i simply cant paint your house blue. this is the compromise. and then you still have to pay them for their work even though you are now going to have to either hire another painter or just figure out how to paint ur own house to get it how you actually wanted. thatd be crazy right. so anyway i prefer to cut my own hair at home
What do you mean āchatā is now referring to ChatGPT and not twitch chat? What? What? What the fuck? No?
When I address chat I am speaking to a presumed Greek chorus of real human people shitposting on their lunch break, not a machine that devours lakes to covert electricity into slop.

Wait, which series does Miles Morales first appear in? All these different series are so confusing
Ultimate Spider-Man, in the universe of the Ultimate imprint. It was the best of the Ultimate series.

man, what the fuck
This is the most accurate post about getting into comic books I have ever seen.
Can you imagine being stuck in space completely alone with only the corpses of your friends for company, and the first living thing you meet after 46 years of that misery is a fucking weird alien creature who just rolls up with crazy advanced tech and goes "hi let's work together" and makes it possible for you to save your world through the power of friendship and molecular biology. AND THEN you find out that in this creature's language, its name means "mercy". Happened to my good friend Rocky btw
Every time I see the āBlazeā button Iām like āyeah thatās me whatās upā
knowing that the past tense of "hang" is "hanged" when it's a method of execution can be very entertaining because you'll be watching a horror movie and someone goes "local legend says a woman was hung in these woods" and you're like "š good for her I guess"
