thinking about trans man athrun again and trans woman meer and how particular durandal is on playing up gendered expectations for them in his manipulation of them both as the thing they want and can attain by working with him

durandals promises to athrun of glory, a role and duty as a soldier.for athrun to become the man he wanted to be. durandal promises to meer to become lacus. to be the woman she always wanted to be.

reading them in tandem as mirrors with meer being transfem all but outright stated... it pushes my athrun reads further too on him being a trans man

i could write something more on seed and gender and how it plays with things (and id really like to) but where to start.... i think id start with kira subverting a lot of traditionally masculine ideals and behaviors and even outright stopping them/denying them within himself <- a lot of them are the early seed choices due to circumstance and people get very stuck on them and refuse to see him growing and changing because hes still very much out of whack even in later seed and actually Especially so
