A very young Sherlock, who doesn't understand the concept of marriage, thinks that he's going to marry Mycroft when he grows up.
Mycroft has to explain that no, you can't marry your sibling. Sherlock is severely disappointed by this, so Mycroft reassures him by telling him that while people divorce their spouses all the time he'll always be his big brother no matter what happens.
Many years later, Mycroft assumes that his younger brother has no memory of this episode, but Sherlock remembers it perfectly.
One day Sherlock and Molly get pretty drunk together. Molly starts talking about marriage, wondering if she will ever get married, and tells Sherlock that he must never have thought about getting married. He replies that he once wanted to marry someone : his brother.
Once he's sober Sherlock hopes Molly forgot their conversation, but she remembers and thinks that the story is adorable.
Adult Sherlock has no idea how the Parliament works, even though his brother made him study the subject when he was a child. (Mycroft sat with him and taught him all about it, and Sherlock got a perfect grade on his school test.)
He figures that it’s of no importance, because Mycroft is the government and controls everything. That’s all one needs to know.
(But he would study the subject intensively if, for some reason, he thought the Parliament might come up in a conversation with Mycroft. He doesn’t want to come across as an idiot in front of his brother.)

As a SH fan, I think we all agree that lesbian johnlock would be necessarily just Sherlock with long hair and John with tank tops
Thinking about the Holmes brothers, how fcked and heartbreaking they are. Also I'm in need of a snack.
Holmes
The violation of intimacy and gentleness that happens when whumper touches whumpee carefully and delicately-even lovingly- over all the wounds and injuries they've inflicted.
Are they just appreciating their own handiwork? Or worse, attempting to genuinely offer some twisted comfort to whumpee?
do you ever think about the ship name for mycroft/sherlock could have been mycock
I'll just leave this here.
Sherlock is someone who takes promises/vows extremely seriously. I assume I don't have to prove this bit.
And it makes me think about how when Mycroft calls from Les Miz and Sherlock says but you made a promise. How when Mycroft tries to talk him out of protecting Mary, he says he made a vow and Mycroft accepts it.
And how in TAB Mycroft basically promises that he will always be there, and Sherlock does not make a promise that he knows he cannot keep.
How this respect for promises is shared, how they are obviously on the same page about just how seriously to take them.
It breaks my heart that Mycroft was willing to die a terrible man in his brother's eyes, just so that Sherlock wouldn't blame himself too much. He sacrifices not only his life. He sacrifices the memory of himself.
In my opinion, this is the highest form of self-denial.
