A home-made birthday card from Des to Jimmy Butler (his one-time lover who was moved to Frankland prison – away from Des, who remained at Wakefield prison – in 1988). It was stopped from being sent on ‘security’ grounds.

Albert Pierrepoint was the last British hangman and Des seemed to be obsessed by the man. He apparently read and wrote a colossal amount about Pierrepoint throughout his time in prison. This is a reference to him in a diary entry.
