Jason is the youngest of the Capshaw siblings. And as such, he got some of the good stuff his brother and sister didn’t have, more freedom, more candy and more attention than the other two, at least in the beginning. Jason always looked up to his older brother, and always knew that if something happened to him, Seth would be there to help. Growing up in a firefighter home wasn’t that easy, especially with a father always on duty and a mother worrying sick about her husband and the children and the house, and the dog. She was an anxious one, that woman, and unfortunately for Jason, he got some of that anxiety too.
As time came for each of the Capshaw children to find their way, it became clear to Jason that he wouldn’t join the firefighters like his brother, nor the police like his sister. Yes the Capshaws were a duty family but he chose to follow the trail of his uncle and roll into the army as soon as he could. Clever, resourceful, easily adapting on the field , he was cataloged as a natural. But really all Jason wanted was the thrill, the adrenaline of it all. He did not seek death, but he was reckless enough to play with it, dance with it. Once deployed, Jason’s specialized in sharpshooting. He was good at it, but keeping in mind that he hit targets, but can one really think of humans as targets when you see kids carrying grenade launchers and you know you have to shoot them to prevent a bloodbath ? There was nothing joyful in war, and when tragedy hit his company, Jason was finally sent home, with honors and a great speech of how he served his country.
Only the war had broken Jason. How can you go back to a normal life after witnessing that much violence and hatred for another human being? Diagnosed with PTSD when brought to the ER with an overdose after months on of hell , he agreed to getting help. But with PTSD came demons, even medication could not always fight. He was still recovering when duty called again. Military were needed, and he refused, and refused, until they threatened him with a trial. His country needed his help, yet he was only agreeing to be a pilot. He could not have any responsibility anymore; he simply could not have in his hand the life and death of people.
After the storm, Jason was one of the military deployed to secure the facilities hit by the tornado, but he soon had to deal with the fact that he had to pick up a gun again. Experienced in war situations, his muscle memory did the rest. He fell back into not being him anymore, just focusing on a task. But then, when the first mutate started to pop up, and the weather became unreliable, made him realized that the world had indeed changed. Authority was absurd. Any law enforcement had no reason to be anymore, what was there to maintain when you tried to survive? When he found the group, he was almost a wild animal, hurt at his leg, not really communicating. He has warmed up since then of course, even if he mostly keeps to himself. He doesn’t talk about what happened, nor why it happened, or how he ended up there to be honest he doesn’t speak much of anything related to his life prior his arrival to the group. He is now one of the guys in charge of security. Protecting the group that saved his life is his main focus now…even if old demons are haunting him.
