Just a little PSA : my blogs @deadendengine , @observation-car and @diningcar are going to be semi inactive from now on. I'm really not interested in writing them anymore, and I'm sorry to those that I have ongoing threads with rn -
I might at moments still use them if anyone really wants to do a plotted rp - I'm not entirely against that. But other than that I'm putting them on hold.

Rusty turned his head to look at Dustin, a small, maybe a little confused, smile on his face.
“ Well, sure, Dustin. “ He agreed with a small nod.
“ What’s got you all philosphical today, huh ? “ Rusty inquired, leaning back a little from where he sat.
Dustin shrugged slightly, suddenly feeling embarrassed.
“I- I dunno really..” He mumbled, leaning back on his hands and glancing down at his wheels. “Just.. thinking, I guess. I don’t really know what I’m talking about..” He laughed awkwardly, looking more embarrassed.
" Well, I'm always happy to listen ! " Rusty said with a bright smile.
" You're really clever, Dustin. " He chuckled, hopping down from where he was sitting. " A lotta people don't see that in you, but they should. "
Dustin quickly shook his head, his cheeks slightly pink. "O-Oh, I'm really not that smart, Rusty. I'm no good at things like counting or spelling like you are, you're a lot cleverer than me."
The hopper had sadly received little to no education at his old yard, a fact he was quite insecure about. He tried his best to learn, but even the easiest think were difficult for him.
" 'Course you're smart, Dustin ! " Rusty insisted, rolling up a little closer to the hopper.
" You're the smartest out of all the freight, in my opinion. " He said with a small shrug, trying his best to reassure his friend. " Really, honest to Starlight. "
Dustin wasn't really sure what to say; he wasn't very used to being complimented, let alone being called smart. He smiled slightly, a little flattered but also confused.
'I'm the stupid one, really...' He thought to himself, not realising he'd spoken aloud.
" No you're not. " Rusty continued to insist, giving the hopper a small pat on the shoulder.
" That title goes to Flat-top, t'be honest. " He chuckled. " He ain't dumb either, but you're definitely the brains, y'know ? "
The hopper’s face went red when he realised Rusty had heard what he’d said. “..I wish I was smarter though, I dont like having so much trouble with easy things...”
Dustin had tried his best to teach himself more, but he never managed to get very far with anything; and he was far too embarrassed to ask for help.
" Dustin - " Rusty said, his voice full of sympathy. " You know that's not right - 'n even if that was true, you only have a hard time with book-smarts - "
" Doesn't mean you're not smart in other ways. " The steamer shook his head. " Like, emotions ! .. You're real good with those, y'know, relating t' how other trains feel 'n... sympathising. " Rusty tried his best to assure his friend.
“You’re not the person I wanted to see today.”
The corner of Rusty’s mouth tugged downwards.
“ What’s got you in such a bad mood this time, Flat-Top ? “ The steam engine questioned, his brows furrowing in mild irritation.
Flat-Top shrugged, kicking at a few rocks on the ground. “Dunno. Same stuff as always, I guess.”
The brick truck wasn’t sure why he was always in a bad mood; he just was. It wasn’t that fun always being cranky and unlikable... but he wasn’t very good at being cheerful and friendly.
Rusty looked the brick truck up and down, not believing him. But he didn't push it.
" Right.. So, is there something you want ? Or did you just come here to be mean ? " Nothing out of the ordinary then, and Rusty was honestly pretty used to it.
“I’ve gotta go pick up a delivery from the brick factory, bring it back here.” He answered, ignoring Rusty’s comment. “Everyone else is busy, so you’ve gotta take me, alright?”
Before the steamer could answer, Flat-Top skated behind him and coupled up rather roughly. “Right, let’s go. Get this over with.”
" Alright.. " The steam engine replied, not protesting even though he'd preferred not to. He still had to work on that confidence issue..
Rusty decided that Flat-top was right in that it was best just to get it over with, and that's what he did. He was being a little faster than usual with his skating, but nothing noticable or dangerous.
Flat-Top gripped Rusty’s couplings a little tighter as he sped up, feeling a little uneasy. He hated being the only truck in the train, it made him feel more.. exposed, unsafe. Especially when it was cold out, and the tracks were frosty.
“How long d’you reckon it’s gonna take, ’specially with your tiny little wheels?” He asked, already wishing their job was over and done with.
The steamer sighed, furrowing his brow a little.
" Faster, if y' don't complain as much.. " He said, shifting uncomfortably at the tight grip Flat-top had. They were making considerable progress, but not as much as Rusty wished they were.
Flat-Top scowled, gripping Rusty’s couplings even tighter in response. “Oh c’mon, aren’t ya ‘The Starlight’ or summat? Surely a few nasty words ain’t gonna slow ya down.” He pouted mockingly, raising an eyebrow.
His attention shifted when he heard a quiet crunching sound, coming from his wheels, he glanced down breifly, before quickly shrugging it off. It wasn’t like he was gonna go see Wrench about it, no way.
Rusty flinched and didn't reply, redirecting his gaze to the ground for a while. After that he stayed quiet, continuing his pace.
He heard the crunch, but didn't pay any mind to it, figuring that it was just a rock or something. They'd arrive soon, thank the stars.
He frowned slightly as Rusty went silent; that... didn’t feel as good as he’d thought it would. He’d been noticing that more often, making fun of the steamer wasn’t as enjoy as it used to be.
“Um... sorry, I guess..” He mumbled, his face going red with embarrassment. He wasn’t good with apologies.
Rusty didn't reply for a moment before uttering a small, " 'S okay. " And a few seconds after they'd arrived at their station.
" Alright, here we are - " He announced, letting out a small sigh. He was glad to be halfway done by now, and was hoping it'd speed up after this.
Flat-Top nodded, waiting for the workmen to load him up,absentmindedly rolling his wheels along the track.
He frowned as he heard the crunching sound again, but brushed it off. He waited until the last of the bricks were loaded, then nodded. "Right, we can go now."
" Where to ? " Rusty asked, looking over his shoulder at Flat-top, raising one of his brows. Usually it took a little longer than this, so the engine was almost surprised.
He rolled his eyes. “Home, obviously! Now get a move on, I wanna go home and sleep. M’tired.”
That was one of the many reasons Flat-Top was always so irritable; he rarely ever slept well, and he had to trudge through the day on only a couple hours of rest. He’d be lucky to sleep through the whole night.
" Yeah, me too. " Rusty muttered, more referring to the others behaviour. He kicked off, beginning to skate again.
He thought about the crunch he'd heard earlier, it was pretty distinct and he was fairly certain he'd heard it more than once. He deeply hesitated before speaking. " 're your wheels alright ? " He asked.
“...I’m sorry.” (Greaseball)
The steam engine shifted his weight, giving the other engine a small smile.
" Aw, GB, you don't have to apologise. " He said softly, with a little shrug. " It's all alright, no hard feelings. "
He wasn't sure what exactly it was Greaseball was apologising for, but Rusty had already forgiven the diesel for what he'd done to him. They'd all made some mistakes back then, and if he could forgive the others, like Pearl, Electra and CB, GB wasn't going to be an exception.
Greaseball shook his head. “No, I- I do gotta apologize,” He muttered. “I messed up, really bad. I-I hurt pretty much everyone, it’s a miracle Dinah wanted me back...”
The diesel shook his head slightly. “...It ain’t just about the races though, I’ve been a jerk to ya since I first got here. An’.. I don’t really have an excuse. So, I’m sorry.”
It felt strange apologizing, but Wrench had insisted on it as part of the psychological half of his therapy. It was strange, but... it felt good too.
Rusty shook his head in protest. " No, really. "
He smiled again. " You're already forgiven. I mean - I get it, I do. " The engine said.
" Doesn't excuse it, I just - I understand. " He nodded slightly, a little unsure of how to put his words.
" Figure it's better to forgive and forget, 'cause there's no good in holding a grudge. It'd be different if you don't want to change, but - you do, so. "
Greaseball hesitated, then nodded slightly. “Right, okay...” He scratched the back of his head awkwardly, shifting from foot to foot. “It’s.. part of my therapy work, y’see. Make up with the people I’ve hurt. Wrench says it’s good for my ‘conscience’, it’ll make me feel better. An’ she’s right, honestly.”
He paused again, looking a little nervous. “Hey, um... Rusty? I.. don’t suppose you an’ Pearl would wanna come over for lunch, would ya? I-If y’give us an hour or so to get everythin’ ready, you could come by then...?”
The steamers face lit up. " Oh, yeah ! I'm sure Pearl would love to, she hasn't seen Dinah in quite a while. "
" That'd be swell. " He nodded. Rusty was trying his best to be nice, the diesel wasn't very good at covering up his nervous state. Rusty understood, though. He'd probably be pretty awkward in that kind of situation too.
Greaseball looked relieved. “Alright, yeah! Sounds good. So, uh... if you an’ Pearl wanna come by ours in an hour, I’ll meet ya there..?”
He still sounded a little confused, not quite believing that Rusty was giving him a second chance. After how awfully he’d treated the steamer, why was he willing to be friendly with him?
" Got it ! " Rusty nodded, giving Greaseball a friendly smile.
" And, uh - How have you been, Greaseball ? " He asked, making sure to get the question in before he left.
" After the races, 'n crash an' everything, I just... I worried about you. " He gave a small shrug.
The big diesel furrowed his brow, now looking confused too. Rusty was worried about him?
“O-Oh, no, I’m fine! I’m fine. Ya don’t gotta be worried.” He laughed awkwardly. “..Wh-Why were you worryin’ about me...? I- I was an asshole to ya..”
" Why not ? " Rusty asked, furrowing his brows in return.
" You were really hurt, so was Electra and CB. I was worrying about all of you... " He looked down to the ground, rolling his wheels over the gravel.
Greaseball wasn’t sure what to say. It felt.. strangely nice to know people cared enough to be worried.
He smiled slightly. “Well, uh... thanks, Rusty. I appreciate it. I’ll, uh.. see you an’ Pearl later then? You can meet Turbo finally.” A hint of pride creeped into the diesel’s tone; he loved talking about his newborn son.
" Oh, yeah ! " Rusty grinned. He'd been looking forward to that, the steamer absolutely adored trainlets.
" See ya then, GB ! " He gave the other engine a small wave before skating off to his home. He'd have to let Pearl know as soon as possible, so she could get ready.

At Greaseball and Dinah’s shed, they’d almost finished preparing everything. Or at least, Dinah had. Despite Greaseball’s best efforts he still hadn’t gotten the hang of cooking, so instead he’d been taking care of Turbo. He’d managed to make a few simple snack items at least, to give Dinah the opportunity to get herself. Greaseball didn’t care much about looking presentable, but he knew it was important to Dinah. He glanced out the window briefly, before moving to sit down on the couch, carefully cradling Turbo.
The baby diesel cooed happily up at his father, occasionally kicking his tiny legs. Greaseball smiled softly, gently stroking his son’s hair, and settled down to wait for their guests.
When Rusty had made his way home, Pearl had been delighted to hear about their invitation over to the others house. She was excited to see Dinah and Turbo, but most of all she was happy to hear about Greaseball making an attempt to mend things. Really, she was happy for both of them.
It didn't take long for both of them to get ready, even with Pearl fussing about everything. And soon they'd headed off, when the time was right. It didn't take long for them to arrive, and for Rusty to be knocking on their door. The steamer was feeling pretty nervous, and Pearl was trying her best to reassure him things would be fine.
Hearing the knock Greaseball pulled himself to his wheels, skating over to the front door. He opened it, smiling slightly when he saw Rusty and Pearl.
"Hey guys. Dinah's just gettin' herself ready, y'wanna come in an' sit down?"
Turbo squealed happily when he saw the couple, kicking his little legs and reaching out towards them with a tiny hand.
Pearl was the one to take the initiative, saying her hello's before gripping Rustys hand and pulling him inside the shed.
The steamer couldn't say he'd ever been there before, if his memory served him right. It was definitely a nice place, which didn't really surprise him.
While Rusty had been looking around, Pearl was occupying herself with babying Turbo. She honestly couldn't help herself, he was just so adorable.
Greaseball chuckled softly. “Y’can hold him if ya like.” He said, carefully offering Turbo to Pearl. The little diesel squeaked with excitement, eager to say hello to the observation car.
Dinah then skated into the room, smiling brightly. She’d put on a brand-new dress for the occasion, and gone the whole nine yards; very different from Greaseball, who was still just in sweatpants and a t-shirt. “You’re here!” She cried, skating over to Rusty and Pearl. “Oh I’m so glad you could make it, this is gonna be so fun!”
" 'S that alright ? " The observation car asked before gently taking the small diesel into her arms. " Oh - You're very heavy ! " She chuckled with a smile, a little bit surprised that a baby could weigh so much.
Rusty nearly jumped in surprise when Dinah entered, though he quickly smiled when he realized it was just her. " Glad to be here - " He replied as Pearl rolled over, who was looking just as excited as the dining car as she greeted her.
Greaseball chuckled softly. “Yeah, little guy likes to spend most of his time eatin’. Wrench says that’s good though, means he’s growin’ properly.”
“He did enough growin’ when he was in me,” Dinah muttered dryly, although her tone wasn’t malicious, “I still look pregnant, I’ve had folks stop an’ ask if we’re already havin’ another one!”
" Oh, you look fine, Di ! " Pearl said, shaking her head. " In fact, you look even better than usual ! You don't have anythin' to worry about ! " She beamed.
Though Rusty wholeheartedly agreed, he stuck to staying quiet, switching between looking at his wheels and giving Turbo a few glances. He wasn't entirely unfamiliar with babies of course, but it was the first time he'd really ever seen so close by; let alone one that was a friend's.

He’d managed to make a few simple snack items at least, to give Dinah the opportunity to get herself. Greaseball didn’t care much about looking presentable, but he knew it was important to Dinah. He glanced out the window briefly, before moving to sit down on the couch, carefully cradling Turbo.
The baby diesel cooed happily up at his father, occasionally kicking his tiny legs. Greaseball smiled softly, gently stroking his son’s hair, and settled down to wait for their guests.
When Rusty had made his way home, Pearl had been delighted to hear about their invitation over to the others house. She was excited to see Dinah and Turbo, but most of all she was happy to hear about Greaseball making an attempt to mend things. Really, she was happy for both of them.
It didn't take long for both of them to get ready, even with Pearl fussing about everything. And soon they'd headed off, when the time was right. It didn't take long for them to arrive, and for Rusty to be knocking on their door. The steamer was feeling pretty nervous, and Pearl was trying her best to reassure him things would be fine.
Hearing the knock Greaseball pulled himself to his wheels, skating over to the front door. He opened it, smiling slightly when he saw Rusty and Pearl.
"Hey guys. Dinah's just gettin' herself ready, y'wanna come in an' sit down?"
Turbo squealed happily when he saw the couple, kicking his little legs and reaching out towards them with a tiny hand.
Pearl was the one to take the initiative, saying her hello's before gripping Rustys hand and pulling him inside the shed.
The steamer couldn't say he'd ever been there before, if his memory served him right. It was definitely a nice place, which didn't really surprise him.
While Rusty had been looking around, Pearl was occupying herself with babying Turbo. She honestly couldn't help herself, he was just so adorable.

Rusty turned his head to look at Dustin, a small, maybe a little confused, smile on his face.
“ Well, sure, Dustin. “ He agreed with a small nod.
“ What’s got you all philosphical today, huh ? “ Rusty inquired, leaning back a little from where he sat.
Dustin shrugged slightly, suddenly feeling embarrassed.
“I- I dunno really..” He mumbled, leaning back on his hands and glancing down at his wheels. “Just.. thinking, I guess. I don’t really know what I’m talking about..” He laughed awkwardly, looking more embarrassed.
" Well, I'm always happy to listen ! " Rusty said with a bright smile.
" You're really clever, Dustin. " He chuckled, hopping down from where he was sitting. " A lotta people don't see that in you, but they should. "
Dustin quickly shook his head, his cheeks slightly pink. "O-Oh, I'm really not that smart, Rusty. I'm no good at things like counting or spelling like you are, you're a lot cleverer than me."
The hopper had sadly received little to no education at his old yard, a fact he was quite insecure about. He tried his best to learn, but even the easiest think were difficult for him.
" 'Course you're smart, Dustin ! " Rusty insisted, rolling up a little closer to the hopper.
" You're the smartest out of all the freight, in my opinion. " He said with a small shrug, trying his best to reassure his friend. " Really, honest to Starlight. "
Dustin wasn't really sure what to say; he wasn't very used to being complimented, let alone being called smart. He smiled slightly, a little flattered but also confused.
'I'm the stupid one, really...' He thought to himself, not realising he'd spoken aloud.
" No you're not. " Rusty continued to insist, giving the hopper a small pat on the shoulder.
" That title goes to Flat-top, t'be honest. " He chuckled. " He ain't dumb either, but you're definitely the brains, y'know ? "

The corner of Rusty’s mouth tugged downwards.
“ What’s got you in such a bad mood this time, Flat-Top ? “ The steam engine questioned, his brows furrowing in mild irritation.
Flat-Top shrugged, kicking at a few rocks on the ground. “Dunno. Same stuff as always, I guess.”
The brick truck wasn’t sure why he was always in a bad mood; he just was. It wasn’t that fun always being cranky and unlikable... but he wasn’t very good at being cheerful and friendly.
Rusty looked the brick truck up and down, not believing him. But he didn't push it.
" Right.. So, is there something you want ? Or did you just come here to be mean ? " Nothing out of the ordinary then, and Rusty was honestly pretty used to it.
“I’ve gotta go pick up a delivery from the brick factory, bring it back here.” He answered, ignoring Rusty’s comment. “Everyone else is busy, so you’ve gotta take me, alright?”
Before the steamer could answer, Flat-Top skated behind him and coupled up rather roughly. “Right, let’s go. Get this over with.”
" Alright.. " The steam engine replied, not protesting even though he'd preferred not to. He still had to work on that confidence issue..
Rusty decided that Flat-top was right in that it was best just to get it over with, and that's what he did. He was being a little faster than usual with his skating, but nothing noticable or dangerous.
Flat-Top gripped Rusty’s couplings a little tighter as he sped up, feeling a little uneasy. He hated being the only truck in the train, it made him feel more.. exposed, unsafe. Especially when it was cold out, and the tracks were frosty.
“How long d’you reckon it’s gonna take, ’specially with your tiny little wheels?” He asked, already wishing their job was over and done with.
The steamer sighed, furrowing his brow a little.
" Faster, if y' don't complain as much.. " He said, shifting uncomfortably at the tight grip Flat-top had. They were making considerable progress, but not as much as Rusty wished they were.
Flat-Top scowled, gripping Rusty’s couplings even tighter in response. “Oh c’mon, aren’t ya ‘The Starlight’ or summat? Surely a few nasty words ain’t gonna slow ya down.” He pouted mockingly, raising an eyebrow.
His attention shifted when he heard a quiet crunching sound, coming from his wheels, he glanced down breifly, before quickly shrugging it off. It wasn’t like he was gonna go see Wrench about it, no way.
Rusty flinched and didn't reply, redirecting his gaze to the ground for a while. After that he stayed quiet, continuing his pace.
He heard the crunch, but didn't pay any mind to it, figuring that it was just a rock or something. They'd arrive soon, thank the stars.
He frowned slightly as Rusty went silent; that... didn’t feel as good as he’d thought it would. He’d been noticing that more often, making fun of the steamer wasn’t as enjoy as it used to be.
“Um... sorry, I guess..” He mumbled, his face going red with embarrassment. He wasn’t good with apologies.
Rusty didn't reply for a moment before uttering a small, " 'S okay. " And a few seconds after they'd arrived at their station.
" Alright, here we are - " He announced, letting out a small sigh. He was glad to be halfway done by now, and was hoping it'd speed up after this.
Flat-Top nodded, waiting for the workmen to load him up,absentmindedly rolling his wheels along the track.
He frowned as he heard the crunching sound again, but brushed it off. He waited until the last of the bricks were loaded, then nodded. "Right, we can go now."
" Where to ? " Rusty asked, looking over his shoulder at Flat-top, raising one of his brows. Usually it took a little longer than this, so the engine was almost surprised.

The steam engine shifted his weight, giving the other engine a small smile.
" Aw, GB, you don't have to apologise. " He said softly, with a little shrug. " It's all alright, no hard feelings. "
He wasn't sure what exactly it was Greaseball was apologising for, but Rusty had already forgiven the diesel for what he'd done to him. They'd all made some mistakes back then, and if he could forgive the others, like Pearl, Electra and CB, GB wasn't going to be an exception.
Greaseball shook his head. “No, I- I do gotta apologize,” He muttered. “I messed up, really bad. I-I hurt pretty much everyone, it’s a miracle Dinah wanted me back...”
The diesel shook his head slightly. “...It ain’t just about the races though, I’ve been a jerk to ya since I first got here. An’.. I don’t really have an excuse. So, I’m sorry.”
It felt strange apologizing, but Wrench had insisted on it as part of the psychological half of his therapy. It was strange, but... it felt good too.
Rusty shook his head in protest. " No, really. "
He smiled again. " You're already forgiven. I mean - I get it, I do. " The engine said.
" Doesn't excuse it, I just - I understand. " He nodded slightly, a little unsure of how to put his words.
" Figure it's better to forgive and forget, 'cause there's no good in holding a grudge. It'd be different if you don't want to change, but - you do, so. "
Greaseball hesitated, then nodded slightly. “Right, okay...” He scratched the back of his head awkwardly, shifting from foot to foot. “It’s.. part of my therapy work, y’see. Make up with the people I’ve hurt. Wrench says it’s good for my ‘conscience’, it’ll make me feel better. An’ she’s right, honestly.”
He paused again, looking a little nervous. “Hey, um... Rusty? I.. don’t suppose you an’ Pearl would wanna come over for lunch, would ya? I-If y’give us an hour or so to get everythin’ ready, you could come by then...?”
The steamers face lit up. " Oh, yeah ! I'm sure Pearl would love to, she hasn't seen Dinah in quite a while. "
" That'd be swell. " He nodded. Rusty was trying his best to be nice, the diesel wasn't very good at covering up his nervous state. Rusty understood, though. He'd probably be pretty awkward in that kind of situation too.
Greaseball looked relieved. “Alright, yeah! Sounds good. So, uh... if you an’ Pearl wanna come by ours in an hour, I’ll meet ya there..?”
He still sounded a little confused, not quite believing that Rusty was giving him a second chance. After how awfully he’d treated the steamer, why was he willing to be friendly with him?
" Got it ! " Rusty nodded, giving Greaseball a friendly smile.
" And, uh - How have you been, Greaseball ? " He asked, making sure to get the question in before he left.
" After the races, 'n crash an' everything, I just... I worried about you. " He gave a small shrug.
The big diesel furrowed his brow, now looking confused too. Rusty was worried about him?
“O-Oh, no, I’m fine! I’m fine. Ya don’t gotta be worried.” He laughed awkwardly. “..Wh-Why were you worryin’ about me...? I- I was an asshole to ya..”
" Why not ? " Rusty asked, furrowing his brows in return.
" You were really hurt, so was Electra and CB. I was worrying about all of you... " He looked down to the ground, rolling his wheels over the gravel.
Greaseball wasn’t sure what to say. It felt.. strangely nice to know people cared enough to be worried.
He smiled slightly. “Well, uh... thanks, Rusty. I appreciate it. I’ll, uh.. see you an’ Pearl later then? You can meet Turbo finally.” A hint of pride creeped into the diesel’s tone; he loved talking about his newborn son.
" Oh, yeah ! " Rusty grinned. He'd been looking forward to that, the steamer absolutely adored trainlets.
" See ya then, GB ! " He gave the other engine a small wave before skating off to his home. He'd have to let Pearl know as soon as possible, so she could get ready.
