"That’s right," Shinon nodded. "They may drive me mad now and then, but somehow I still call myself one of them." he smirked, making a joke.

"How’ve you been, kid? Feels like I haven’t seen any of you in forever."

Smiling slightly, he chuckled. “Well, that’s how it is traveling and living in groups, from what I’ve seen.”

"As for myself, I’m doing well. Rebuilding is going along swiftly… How about yourself? Are the others doing alright as well?"

Shinon couldn't help but laugh lightly as well, his smirk remaining steady on his lips. "You do have a point there, kid... I imagine your friends put you through hell now and then too, eh?"

"As for the others, they've been well. Those that are still around, that is... Ike and a few of the others went off on their own some time ago. Who knows if they'll ever be back..."

"Uncle Shinon! Are you busy? Maybe today we can go to train together..."

"You want to train, do you?" Shinon cocked an eyebrow, eyeing Rolf from the spot by the nearest tree to the camp where he relaxed in the sunlight that beamed through the spaces between branches. He sat up with a yawn, looking only slightly less disinterested than was normal for him.

Under other circumstances, Shinon might have declined such an offer. He felt no need to train himself. But this time it was Rolf asking… and he was always quick to lend a hand when the boy needed one.

"Well, I was about to take a nap… But I could spare a few hours if you really want.”

"Oh, you. You're that kid from the Dawn Brigade, or whatever it was called... You're still working hard with that bow of yours, yeah?"

Said member of the Dawn Brigade turned around and blinked at Shinon. He seemed familiar… Oh, wait, this man was a part of Ike’s group, correct? Leonardo simply nodded. “Yes, you have the name correct, and I have been doing my best in training. If I am correct, I assume that you’re a part of the Greil Mercenaries?”

"That's right," Shinon nodded. "They may drive me mad now and then, but somehow I still call myself one of them." he smirked, making a joke.

"How've you been, kid? Feels like I haven't seen any of you in forever."

Alliance of the Dick Archers -- Innes & Shinon

He kept his eyes on the other, keeping his guard up around him still. Innes blinked at the mention of his bow.

"Well I am a prince, after all," he said. "Of course I’d have a lot of money."

With a small smile, he complimented, “However, yours is quite nice, too. I could tell you must be very skillful with it.”

"Heh, of course..." Shinon shook his head. He should have expected a man dressed and equipped like Innes to be none other than royalty. Before he could make a likely regretable comment on the subject, the compliment threw him off guard and into a much more prideful state.

"You like it, huh? Good to hear. I made it myself, so it's fully capable of handling a sniper of my caliber. Because of that, any other sniper could likely handle it as well if skilled enough."

Meeting for a Second Time || Shinon and Kurth

Shinon almost called him “subhuman” or was his own imagination? Kurthnaga was thinking to much, he was not used to speak with beorcs so he was feeling a bit nervous.

"Yes. I’m Kurthnaga, the King of the Dragons from Goldoa". The dragon looked at the sniper and smiled. "It’s a pleasure to see you again".

Shinon's confusion faded away completely as his memory of Kurth came back to him. Of course, he remembered it all now! The heir of Goldoa's throne. He remembered him to be a man who didn't care for fighting, despite his great strength.

"So you're the king now, huh? You still look way too young to be a king of you ask me, but... I get it. You're a lot older than you look, aren't you?" Shinon may not have been much friendlier than he was in the days of war, but he was definitely more polite to the Laguz.

"How's that going for you?"

Sorrow || Janaff and Shinon

It was nice to see that not all beorc were so heartless and that there was more to see than what they showed. Janaff definitely didn’t expect Shinon to talk about personal things, especially not with him, because he was a laguz after all. Even if he always acted like a rude child, he did have feelings and Janaff was glad he could get to see another side of him. 

 ”I didn’t expect you to.” It was rather amusing that Shinon acted as if it didn’t matter what the laguz thought, yet he was trying to make him believe that he was a talented man.

"But let me know if you run into trouble, okay? There are a lot of things about life that you don’t know yet." It was only natural for him to treat the beorc like a child, but even so, he did have a lot of experience. Now that he knew Shinon had a good heart, he didn’t mind helping him grow stronger. No matter how stubborn he would be.

"...Run into trouble?" Letting his defensive wall and tone lower for just a bit longer, Shinon looked at Janaff in wonderment. He had a lot of questions he could ask him, but should he?

"I guess I appreciate what you're trying to say to me, but... Why? Why would a sub-" he stopped himself, deeply sighing and running his hand back along his hair. This would take a long while to get used to.

"Why would a laguz want to help me like that? Me? I've done nothing but insult you and treat you as if you were lesser than me since the day we met! I mean... I get it now. You're not what I made you out to be... But that doesn't mean I deserve your forgiveness so easily."

Together Forever (Unfortunately) || Gatrie & Shinon

As soon as he let go, Gatrie put a hand over his ear and rubbed over it gently. A pained expression on his face as he stared pitifully at Shinon. Geez, how’d he become friends with someone as grouchy as Shinon is what amazes him still.

"I…" he started. How was he supposed to make it any more convincing than he was still being held by his ear? "I’m sorry…! There! Hope you’re happy now."

"Hmph..." Shinon didn't appear pleased with the apology, but he decided to let it slide this time. He stared at the knight in an annoyed silence for a good while, only breaking out of character to smirk briefly.

"Hah. Me? Happy? Don't even joke about things like that, Gatrie."

Shinon narrowed his eyes, taking one good look at Innes' bow. "...A sniper, eh?"

"That’s correct," he said curtly. The look he got from the other did not faze him at all. "I suppose you’re one too."

"What gave it away?" Shinon spoke as sarcastically as ever. Surprisingly, the disinterest in his eyes didn't last.

The archer stepped closer, hoping to get a better look at what caught his eye; the quality of the prince's bow. "That's an awful nice quality. You must have a lot of money, huh?"

An Unusual Rescue Mission || Shinon and Mist

"Oh no! I hope Rolf doesn’t run into some sort of trouble! Shinon! We have to go find him! He could end up hurt somewhere! Anywhere! Bandits could have captured him! Come on, pretty please?~"

She clung to the shirt of Shinon and tugged at it, insisting that he immediately went after Rolf. However, what Mist didn’t seem to understand was that Shinon can be quite stubborn. Why would he bother over something like that? But Mist wasn’t one to give up! Rolf could be in trouble so this meant that she had to do something! It was time for her to be the big hero, not her brother for a change.

"Find him!?" Shinon tried to step back to no avail. Mist had a pretty strong grip on his shirt, and right then and there he knew there was no escaping her or denying her request. He figured he'd never live it down if he tried.

"R-rolf is probably fine! ... I mean, he's not me, but..." Shinon mumbled, then raised his voice once more. "But he's still a capable archer! There's no way he'd be captured." 

Shinon frowned seeing the concern in Mist's eyes. He really didn't want to do this, but... "Ugh... But if it makes you feel better I'll help you look around a little, I guess... I'm telling you he's fine, though."

The black dragon stared at the red haired man. "You... you are one of the Greil's mercenaries like Ike, right?"

Shinon eyed the prince, certain that he'd seen him among the rest in the past war. 

"Yeah, that's right. I'm the Greil Mercenaries' sniper, Shinon." he introduced himself for what might have been the second time for all he knew. He tried to remember the boy's name. "You're one of those su-" he stopped himself, clearing his throat before continuing. "One of those laguz, right? The dragons?"

Sorrow || Janaff and Shinon

Janaff didn’t expect the things that Shinon was aiming for and he didn’t understand what he was fighting for in the beginning. The archer had more feelings than he showed, although that wouldn’t have stopped him from being able to reach his goals. 

It was a different story for Janaff since he was able to see more than his fellow hawks. That already gave him a great advantage to get the position of being the king’s right hand. Not only that, but he knew Tibarn since he was young and before their feather hadn’t even grown in yet.

Despite the advantage, he wasn’t the kind of person to lay back and do nothing at all. He still worked hard, so he could be proud of himself and make himself worthy of the king’s eyes. If he messed up, he wouldn’t want to show his face again in his own country. He wanted his fellow hawks be strong and proud, so he had to be a good example to them.

Even if he would never be as strong as Tibarn, he was grateful for where he was and what he had achieved. Janaff couldn’t even imagine how hard beorcs must train in order to become strong. They look fragile and need weapons to protect themselves. Of course that took quite some skill and training, so he had to be glad that he was able to transform into a hawk.

"Heh. That’s what I like to hear." There still seemed to be some optimism left in Shinon. Even if he might not be the best archer, Janaff wasn’t going to deny that he wasn’t skilled. "Don’t disappoint me, alright? I expect a lot from you when you’re that confident."

Spilling his heart out wasn't something Shinon was used to doing. Taking into consideration all that he just confessed to the laguz, it hit the archer just how much he was trusting in this... sub-human to keep between them. Was he really going to stay true to his word on keeping to himself?

Shinon was overcome with embarrassment. Janaff had seen the worst of him right there. If he could manage it, he'd pretend that whole talk the two just shared had never happened. Oddly enough, he felt like he could trust the hawk to do the same.

"Tch, whatever! I'm not in this please anyone like you, you know." He crossed his arms. He would play things off this way, but he knew what he would do. He would make sure to never disappoint another person in his life. Not even that damned nosy bird.

"I don't disappoint. But that doesn't mean I'm doing anything for you. Got it!?"

Drunk or not, Shinon couldn’t decline a challenge. Even one as simple as this. After all, any challenge was an opportunity to show off. It wasn’t long before he had a target set up, and was prepared to fire.

Standing a long distance from the target, Shinon held his bow not so firmly in front of himself. Setting his arrow in place, he drew his arm back. “Steady…” He about begged his arm to stop wobbling.

Minutes passed, and as he finally believed he had locked down on the target he fired… Right through Ike’s tent. He stared in silence.

"…Works fer me."

The arrow went through his tent like a bullet. The sharp end was now lodged into the wall less than a foot to the left of his head. If it was struck in a different angle, it would have easily killed him.

Taking a few seconds to calm down, he managed to pull the arrow out with ease. He looked it over, immediately recognizing who it’s from.

“Shinon.”

When Shinon told him that he didn’t understand anything, he wanted to say that he did, but in reality he didn’t know much about beorc. Or about the archer’s life for that matter. Janaff thought that, since he was older than him, he could give him advise, because he had experienced a lot in his life. But he couldn’t… Their lives were too different.

Janaff was taken aback when the other man started to talk about a sensitive subject like that. He was used to see an annoyed and angry face, not a sad one that made him seem like he already gave up on life.

There wasn’t much he could say while Shinon was talking, because he listened and watched him quietly. Janaff heard a lot of new information that he didn’t know about. Not only about beorc and their lifespan, but also about how much Greil meant to him. He always thought that Shinon looked up to him as a tutor, but never so much as his own father. Hearing his story, he realized how lonely he must have been as a child and how much he needed someone that thought he was worthy enough and that cared about him. There was no way Janaff could relate to that, because he grew up with Tibarn and Ulki, who are still his friends up until today.

"You…" Janaff wanted to say something that would make the other feel better and made him seem like he actually understood his pain, but it was difficult. "You think Greil was strong and succesful, right? Even if he was older than you, did that stop him from achieving his goals?" He only heard stories about the man, but he was Ike’s father, so surely he had some good qualities in him as well.

"All I’m saying is… you shouldn’t give up this easily. Maybe your goals to success might change. You also seem like you want to get closer to people and you never tell them about your feelings, yet you’re opening yourself up to me after knowing me for a shorter time than a lot of other people here."

The day that Shinon joined the Greil mercenaries was one he remembered well. He knew from that very day just how strong the commander was, and he respected his skill and knowledge. Greil was a man worth striving to be like. All of them in the band of mercenaries knew that.

What Shinon didn't know at the time was just how much Greil had kept hidden from them concerning his past. The man he had looked up to for so long... he never even knew his real name. He never knew where he came from or what he once was. Not until it was all revealed to Ike.

The sniper saw Greil as a man whose strength went beyond his normal ideas of what could be someone's best. His commander was powerful, and he would never stop being powerful. But in reality he was a man half the strength of what he once was. He was as Shinon saw all others his age; simply a reminder of how strong he once was. 

Shinon would never have the type of strength that Ike or Greil had. He would never be able to trick people into believing he would always be amazing. Unlike them, he would fade away in no time at all.

"I've tried to go far in life, and well... I failed. No fame or fortune will ever come from being a part of this little band of mercenaries. All I get out of this is the comfort of being with people I know."

He sighed. "But don't think I'm giving up! I'm the best damn archer you'll ever know, laguz. Even once I'm dead, that will never change."
