feeling dead
*Spoiler free* NGL I was picturing Chaos like Shrek for a little too long (despite seeing fanart and visuals) 💀 💀💀>> 🤡🤡🤡 my attempt at coping with finishing Ballad
I was just casually wondering about apples and my most adorable blonde man , when it suddenly hit me what Stephanie had actually done.
In book 1:
He held her like a grudge.
( A grudge is something we all hate to keep yet we still nurture it nevertheless)
In book 2:
He held her like a secret.
( A secret is something we all have as our most treasured possession , only between u and ur soul)
And the fact that he went from having to keep her as a grudge ( not desired yet not something you can let go off) to keeping her as a secret is something I can't take my mind off of.
In book 3:
He held on to her like a promise he intended to keep.
It's decided, she's the one promise he wouldn't break...He couldn't.
As the dedication in tbona is to anyone who has ever feared they won‘t find true love; there is no other option than a third book.
Like what idea of true love would that be!?!? The fuck..
Sis ended the debate with that one 🌜🌛
the ballad of never after by stephanie garber
“in that moment evangeline knew he would carry her through more than freezing waters. he would pull her through fire if he had to, haul her from the clutches of war, from falling cities and breaking worlds”
things i am anxious to see on the next book of evajacks
- the third kiss evangeline owes jacks
- evangeline finding the letter she wrote
- evangeline telling jacks she loves him
- tella and crimson appearing (i hope so)
- their first kiss
“Jacks—” His name came out like a sob. She knew he wasn’t a savior, but she didn’t want a savior just then. She didn’t want someone to hold her while she cried and tell her it would be all right. She wanted fury, she wanted rage, she wanted a villain to tell her she’d done exactly what she needed to do.

tbona spoilers
I wasn't sure at the end of OUABH if Jacks cared for Evangeline or not, but at the end of this book I was a 100% sure. he literally got everything he wanted, so he no longer needed Evangeline. why not let her die? instead he used his chance at happily ever after to save her. WHEN HE DIDN'T HAVE TO. WHEN IT WAS HIS ONLY CHANCE TO TRAVEL BACK IN TIME. but he did.
bro I need to know how Jacks reacts to the fact that Evangeline loses her memories I NEED TO KNOW
I’m not okay knowing that the happiest and most loved Jacks had felt in centuries is the few nights at The Hollow.
He was so caring and flirty and open and just ADORABLE asdfghjkl
I mean my boy hasn’t talked that much words at a stretch for 3 books.
Review of tbona
I don't remember being obsessed with any couple to the point of crying for them. I love them both almost as much as I love their chemistry. I don't like stories where there's no character development and the main leads don't change as a person towards the end. Here, Evangeline's growth as a person , how she matured from a girl who was foolishly in love to a brave Princess who was ready to fight for her happy ending, is something I found to be unravelling beautifully throughout the story..She keeps becoming a better version of herself while remaining true to her core nature.
I often get bored by author's intricate detailing of the artitecture and landscapes but here I just couldn't get enough of her words...It felt like being part of their world, feeling the same magic unfold infront your eyes. Her words captured everything precisely. Some lines were just so pretty that I had to read them again and again for I didn't want to remain devoid of their sweet wisdom.
Jacks, that dude can have my heart and throw it away and I'd still love him the same. His hidden intentions were what really intrigued me in the first book like I just couldn't believe how manipulative he could be for something he wanted...I found it fascinating and just another thing to add into the list of things I loved bout his character. He manipulated her into marrying Apollo and then used Apollo as bait to make her team up with him and he does this all in a way that we can't blame Evangeline. She couldn't see it coming. We didn't even. But surprisingly in the second book, he's so otherworldly obsessed with her. The jealousy and witty comebacks from both of them create such an angsty vibe. He's in love with her , we know it by the end and tragic part was he believed he'd kill everyone including Evangeline if they let them close. He didn't love tella but he believed she was his only chance at happy ever after cuz she was the only girl who could survive his kisses.
But he makes a choice in the end and chooses Evangeline's happily ever after over his happily ever after. He gives her the life she wanted with Apollo by sacrificing his chance at it.
It's the most saddest ending I've ever read.
.
“You can go back to pretending you don’t like me, and I can pretend that I don’t care.
But for tonight let me pretend you’re mine”

He watched her the way you weren’t supposed to watch someone when they knew that you were looking—bold and unabashed and utterly inappropriate.
A Ballad of Never After, Stephanie Garber
“The object of any obligation, in the realm of human affairs, is always the human being as such. There exists an obligation towards every human being for the sole reason that he or she is a human being, without any other condition requiring to be fulfilled, and even without any recognition of such obligation on the part of the individual concerned.”
Simone Weil, The Need for Roots (trans. A. F. Wills)
I hate people but mostly because I'm afraid I'd become them.
