Radio Silence by Oseman Book Review
Listen. A booktuber I watch (same one from the poet x book review) gives RAVE reviews about this book. It is their favorite book, and they wouldn't shut up about it. So I had to read it, this was pre-quarentine.
I give this book, 10 stars. It was everything I heard about it.
The main character is just someone you can relate to. It isn't your typical cheesy YA novel, and there is definitely a fine line to walk on for that. If you grew up reading Wattpad, you will FEEL this character. If you are/had a life of not being understood, you will FEEL this book. You may or may not cry, I did... But we won't talk about it. YOU WONT REGRET THIS BOOK. You will not want to put this book down, I did not want to. I feel so strongly over this book that it hurts.
The Poet X by Acevedo Book Review
I originally saw this book recommended by a booktuber I watch, and the way she talked about it interested me... This is another of my quarantine reads.
I give this book a 7.5... But DO NOT let that deter you from reading this book. I do recommend it.
Originally I thought this would be typical novel/fictional prose, but it is not. It is basically a story written out in poetry. Which I was, at first, surprised by, but I ended up really liking it. I am a big poetry fan. I did end up reading this whole book in one day. Borderline about an hour and a half. It was an easy read, and definitely one that you don't want to put down. You get entranced by this character that is a young poc girl going through life trying to find herself, trying to set boundaries with her parents, trying to let her parents and the world know who she is.
Difficult Women by Roxane Gay Book Review
This was my first book by Roxane Gay, a couple of her books had been on my tbr ist for a long time. I read this book over quarantine, I had a lot of time on my hands so I was blowing through that tbr list like it was my job... it kind of was.
I give this book about 8.5 stars. Round it up to 9 if you'd like.
I had no clue what to expect, and it really went above my expectations. It is basically a grouping of short stories about a bunch of women. What women go through, and some of the stories are horrifying. It was super interesting to read. I do recommend this book if you are looking for something outside a lighthearted fictional. You do not always get to see the fate of some of the characters you get so involved in, and I wish we did. I will be reading more by Roxane Gay.
The Female Persuasion by Meg Wolitzer Book Review
Listen, I LOVE Meg Wolitzer with a deep, burning, fiery, passion. I have read The Female Persuasion by her, and I didn't stop there. My favorite thing about all of her books has to be that the main characters are females with true unspoken/spoken issues that aren't always highlighted.
I gave this book specifically a solid four stars.
I did read this a little over a year ago, but to this day I love it. It was my entrance to Meg Wolitzer, and I HIGHLY recommend reading this.
I will say, this book was all over the place. I did sometimes have a time where I'd be like wait, where are we? But It wasn't a difficult time, just a time. Meg Wolitzer has this perfect way of explaining lives. There never seems to be the typical story plot when explaining lives where there is just this huge climax where the whole book leads up to one moment. She builds up to just one girl finding her femininity, wandering through life, and also finding out that even the people you deem are your moral heros are actually just people.
9/10 recommend
‘The Streets at Night’
I follow the lights
while I walk the lonely streets during the night
I see those boney people, I wonder how they got here
were they lost too?
This is their home,
These streets? Put life in their steps
the sky, roof over their heads
And I'm jealous
I joined them
in their fight
to create sweet night
for the weather to standstill, not fluctuate
