There was something about night time that he always found peaceful. Perhaps it was that no matter where his feet took him, nights would, for the most part, be peaceful moments where silence reigned and breathing was easier. In particular he liked the nights of towns like this, where people went to bed early and trouble was hard to find. For all the adventure that he lived through as the days passed, he grew nostalgic for the peace of his hometown, the stillness of empty streets and the starts illuminating the puddles on the cobblestone.
Walking through town freely was always one of his favourite activities, not having to deal with the crowds of markets and loud voices calling prices, the sound of coins going from one pocket to the other. That was not to say that he didn’t enjoy the busy streets of other cities, that he didn’t have fun at pubs full of people, the clicking of beer steins clacking together as the music filled the ears and the smell of sweat from people dancing reached your nose mixed with the sweetness of dessert being baked in a kitchen. It was simply a different kind of joy. One that was first interrupted by a running man whose kind Elrias recognized easily: a thief running with a price.
A raised brow and the dragon born made his slow way down the street, swaying just slightly, hunching his back to be smaller, blend into the background as he hummed a sailors song and the thief finally passed him by, careless when he bombed right into his shoulder, carrying the bag tight but not carefully enough, foolish amateur mistake that worked perfectly in Elrias advantage as he was able to snatch the content of the bag, hiding it on his cape as he continued to walk and then….
He slipped with the impact and the wet floor but managed to pop his tail out of human form to stop himself from ending up on the ground, looking at the one that had crashed against him, surely the owner of whatever the other had stolen.
“Seems like the ground won this fight.” He tried to joke, offering his hand to the other creature to help him get up. “You should slow down for a moment, sir.”
Rilas heard half of the joke but could squeeze the rest of it by the context, he knew better than to be a bitter ass and often would rather show a fake smile than to tell a stranger about his struggles, as a traveler of many worlds he knew that you couldn't trust just anyone. The goblin offered one little smile that came out easily, as frustrated as he was, he didn't want this one to get involved. His jaw still tightened in frustration and anger, foolish of him for not bringing anyone from his team around but in the end they were all freelancers and he did enjoy the joys of traveling alone sometimes.
He had to find the thief, luckily this town was small and far from any other so he would find that fucker sooner or later.
He took the other's hand to help himself up, limping to the side of the houses to rest against it, panting and pushing his long hair out of his face. "Thanks...and sorry." He looked down at his foot, moving it in small circles and it ached. "Ow." He complained in a low voice to himself, great. "Did I hurt you? I wasn't looking where I was going and you know- it's dark." He gestured around them and chuckled.
He had to think on a way to get rid of this one without him asking too many questions, or was it worth the trouble when he knew the thief wouldn't go too far?
Maybe this one had information, he could have seen something...but what if they were actually dangerous? Another thief? Or an accomplice of the first one!
These thoughts came and left equally fast, making the goblin glance twice to the one in front of him. "it's not common to see people out at this hour...unless they're out drinking." If they were not from here, this would tell him.
