Look Closely. Watch them.
(blake is wiping a tear away in the 3rd gif)
I can’t stop thinking about how Blake said that the only reason he joined the army was because he thought he might get decent food, because even the meager portions soldiers were given might be better than what he could afford at home. Sam Mendes said that while Schofield was from the middle class, Blake came from the working class, meaning his family was probably really poor and he didn’t know what it was like to be well-fed. And when Scho offered him some of the ham and bread, he was so shocked and excited by it, and practically inhaled it even though it tasted like shit. And then throughout the rest of the movie, he was constantly looking for food and double checking where Scho had already looked because he was so used to being preoccupied with hunger. And yes, all the soldiers were practically starving due to rationing, but Blake had probably been hungry even before the war, so although he was used to it, he still constantly thought about when his next meal would come, because back home, he probably had to worry about the same thing.

yup this is it
oh to be a ww1 soldier napping peacefully under a tree alongside my very close buddy during a particularly slow day when absolutely nothing could go wrong whatsoever. then i suddenly wake up to find out that there is no war. no deaths. no trenches. it was all a bad dream. in reality i'm just sitting against a cherry tree with said buddy (who's actually my lover) laying upon my chest, blossoms falling delicately over his head, curls framing his face
