I imagine pregnancy mostly as a nine-month panic attack.
Thoughts on Fall
I have such a hard time with fall. I hate being overly hot as much as the next guy. I LOVE pumpkin things and mashed potatoes and cinnamon. Apple picking is fun. Pumpkin carving is fun. Dressing up weirdly and giving out candy (and eating candy) is fun. Fall colors are pretty. Sweaters are cute. Boots are awesome. Hot drinks are awesome. Dogs in sweaters are ADORABLE. I have a collection of really cute coats. Outdoor fires when it's brisk are cool. A little chill in the air is lovely. But then it's cold. And then it snows. And it's dark. And the leaves are gone. And the world is devoid of life and color. And I cannot deal.

I absolutely love the no shave, no underwear experiment. It's so inspiring to me! Are you going to continue this indefinitely?
Thank you! As for whether I'm going to do it indefinitely, I'm not sure, but i think partially yes. I haven't shaved my legs since before my sister's wedding last June. Going back to work in dresses without tights or leggings for the first time after winter was tough, since last summer the hairs were still in a growing in stage they weren't as obvious. Now I have as much leg hair as any moderately hairy man would. But as I said, it was hard, but I'm feeling more confident every time I go to work with my legs out. I feel like I'm making a silent statement for both men and women too, because there's the "why do women shave?" question, and also "why don't men show their legs in the office?" question as well. Idgaf what people just randomly out in public think at this point. The only reason I'm a little nervous at work is because I'm not sure how my bosses would react or if they'll think it's somehow unprofessional. I chose to not worry about it so much that I spend the whole summer covered up though, because I want to make them think even just for a second about why my leg or underarm hair makes them uncomfortable. (The underarms don't come out a lot at work anyway since I'm usually wearing sleeves cause it's freezing in the office.) I really think if you see a woman with body hair and are initially grossed out, and then you are also an intelligent and non-ignorant person, you will probably put aside your lame prejudice and realize that body hair does not make a single damn difference in the kind of job she can do or the kind of person she is. Honestly, I had that exact experience with a girl in one of my college classes who had her hairy legs on display. I thought "woah there look at those hairy legs!" Then I thought "well why do I care? So what if her legs are hairy? Good for her." She inspired me to provoke the same kind of thoughts in others. So, in summary, at this point I see no reason to shave. I am growing more comfortable with the hair every time I wear it out (although I have trimmed the underarm hair, it does get a little physically uncomfortable when it's very long, but it's not because I'm self conscious about how it looks). My skin is probably in better shape now than it was when I was constantly scraping a razor over it. Underwear I did go crawling back to. I attribute it to the fact that I ran out of bikini waxes on my wax pass, and I personally find it harder to stay fresh with a lot of hair, so undies keep me from having to wash my jeans every damn time I wear them. I still go underwear free periodically if I feel like it. I go without a bra pretty often, though sadly never at work yet. But every time I modify my body or put something on it, I am considering why I do it. Is it because I actually want to or because I feel like I SHOULD? If it's because I should, I consider not doing it if I can get away with it.
Despite daily walks and bike rides, the days of being able to eat anything I want, whenever I want are long gone. I try to limit sweets, pasta and bread, bacon (a futile exercise once the tomatoes in the garden are ripe and my desire for BLTs overwhelms me), and other tempting, but calorie-rich foods. If I’m in the mood for cookies, and know that my husband and I will be the primary consumers, it’s nice to be able to make just a few. Therefore, I’m always on the lookout for cookie recipes that produce small, manageable quantities.
Two years ago, I brought you a brilliant, insanely delicious and easy recipe for two chocolate chip cookies. Judging by the thousands of notes it has generated, it’s pretty clear that others find it appealing, too. Today’s frosted sugar cookie recipe is just as good.
I set my sugar cookie bar pretty high, and was not disappointed in these. I took the time to chill the finished dough in the refrigerator for 20 minutes before I rolled it out and cut them into shapes, but you totally don’t need to. You could make your job far easier by dividing the dough into four pieces, roll them into balls and then flatten them with the end of a glass.
I like my sugar cookies crisp, so I rolled them thin and baked them for 12 minutes. If you like a thicker or softer cookie, bake them for a shorter amount of time.
Sugar cookies for two, a recipe I modified slightly from Like Mother Like Daughter.
Ingredients:
2 tablespoons butter, softened
3 tablespoons granulated sugar
1 egg yolk
½ teaspoon vanilla
Pinch of  salt
¼ teaspoon baking soda
½ cup flour
For the Frosting
1 teaspoon butter
1 teaspoon milk
½ teaspoon vanilla
¼ cup plus 1 tablespoon powdered sugar
Food coloring, optional
Directions:
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
Combine butter and sugar in a small bowl. Add egg yolk and vanilla and stir well. Add salt, baking soda and flour and stir to combine.
Roll out dough to ¼ inch thick and cut with cookie cutters, or scoop into balls and flatten. Place on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Bake for about 8 minutes (longer for a crisper cookie) then remove from oven. Allow to cool on cookie sheet for a few minutes before removing to finish cooling on rack.
Combine all ingredients for frosting (add more milk or more powdered sugar if too thick or too thin) and frost cookies once cool.
