Cancerand death were things Zoe never thought she would be dealing with. Well, sheknew she would be dealing with death eventually, but she had always assumed itwould be much later in life. It didn’t matter though, because now Zoe wasdealing with both. She needed to accept what was happening and she needed tomake the most of her life while she still could. That included dating andNicola was definitely the kind of girl she wanted to spend her time with.“Surprises are fun.” Zoe said with a smile, squeezing her hand. Nicola had been dealt a lot of bad news in her life, and for a while she’d done nothing but wallow in it. It was too easy to feel sorry for herself. But after meeting Zoe, Nicola no longer wanted to sit around feeling sorry for herself. She wanted to be better than that. She was going to be better for Zoe. “Surprises can be fun,” Nicola agreed reluctantly. She’d never had much luck with surprises before, but she trusted Zoe. Something told her that she didn’t have any bad surprises up her sleeve. “Do I at least get a hint?” she tried, looking over at the other girl with a grin. Patient had never exactly been the way she would describe herself.

Caseywould be lying if she said she wasn’t grateful for Ginny. WIthout the blonde,Casey knew that she would most likely be dead somewhere, full of self-loathingand cocaine. Lots of cocaine. But right now, she was trying to be better. Shewas trying to be better when she truly had nothing going for her. It didn’tseem to be working the way she wanted it to… But she was certainly trying.She shrugged slightly as Ginny asked if anything good had been on, “Notreally,” She muttered, “It was a lot of the same.” She didn’tbudge as Ginny touched her hand, and she merely looked up at her friend, notbothering to actively move. “I haven’t been hungry.” She replied,“But you can make some if you want.”

It was no secret that the war had been difficult on everyone. Whether they were directly involved or not, everyone felt its affects. Everyone had suffered a loss or two. Everyone was hurting. And as such, everyone had different ways of coping. Ginny was sure that if she didn’t have other people to take care of, she would have fallen apart. But that was always what she did - look after everyone else and forget about her own pain. “We really ought to invest in a Netflix account,” Ginny mused, trying to lighten the mood. “You have to eat something,” Ginny sighed, glancing over at the brunette. Not that she’d expected anything different; of course she hadn’t eaten. “What are you in the mood for? What about pizza? I could order pizza. Or Chinese?”

Witney probably would end up dating Travis one day. She would be lying if she said she wouldn’t. He was just such a constant presence in her life, and she liked that about him… Even if he was pretty annoying half the time. “A cool mess.” She repeated, shaking her head and laughing. “If that’s what you want to call it… Then we can go with that.” Witney moved toward the chair in her living room, sitting down and pulling her legs up so they were under her, looking over at Travis as he made himself comfortable on the couch. “Hey, don’t be an ass. I’ll kick you out. You’re in my apartment, you have to be nice to me. It’s like a rule.”

This was as close as he’d been to Witney in a long time, and he was both surprised and grateful for the opportunity. There was chemistry there, he knew it, even if she was so determined to deny it. But there was no way she could deny it forever; could she? “Thank you for letting me have it,” Travis said with a grin, putting a hand over his heart. “That really means a lot to me.” That was usually as close as Witney got to being nice to him, and even though they were both being sarcastic, he was going to take it as a win. “Okay, being nice from now on,” he agreed with a nod. Not that he was sure how long he could actually maintain it. Being a sarcastic asshole was kind of what he did. “Any other rules I should know about while we’re at it?”

“I don’t mind if you leave,” Tyler shrugged his shoulders as he propped himself up on his elbows, “But you woke me up doing it.” He wanted to have another round, sure, but he wasn’t going to ask her for that. He didn’t want to look needy or desperate. He needed to establish himself as the one in control as an alpha, and he wasn’t going to have Vanessa Abrams walk all over him. “Next time you want to leave before I wake up… Be quieter.”

Even though there was nothing she could do about it now, Vanessa cursed herself for not being quieter - even though she was sure she’d hardly made a sound. If she snuck out in the morning without talking to Tyler, it almost felt like she hadn’t made the same mistake again. But when he opened his mouth, it was all too real. “Is this how you get all the girls to fall for you?” Vanessa asked with a scoff, looking around Tyler’s room for the rest of her clothes. How they’d ended up everywhere, she really didn’t know. “Because that charm of yours is out of control. Totally irresistible.”

Growing up the way Abby had didn’t always set people up for the best lifestyle. Her father was a villain. He had tried raising his kids the same way. Hell, Abby had been born with the villain tattoo but she had gone against it. Her generation had been the first to go against their nature, and she was now a renowned hero. She was the president of the United States. No villain would ever be put in that position. But she was still broken inside. Losing Cam… It had fucked her up in the biggest way. “You’re never a bother, dumbass,” Abby shook her head, looking down at her desk before looking up at him, “I’m good, Joel.” There was a bit of unavoidable edge to her voice, and she looked away, “Honestly, I’m good.”

Unlike most people he knew, Joel had come out of the war relatively unscathed. Some sort of survivor’s guilt lingered heavily on his shoulders most days; it was why he wanted to help Abby, help his brother, help anyone he could. It felt like all he could do. “I’m good.” Joel had heard Abby utter those words more times than he could count, but he’d yet to believe them. He would occasionally placate her, allow her to believe that she’d convinced him, because it was what she needed to hear. But other times, Joel wanted a bit of honesty out of her. How else would he be able to help? “I thought politicians were supposed to be good liars,” Joel teased, a small smile one his lips as he looked at Abby, even if she didn’t seem to be able to look at him. “You’ve gotta work on that or your people are gonna see right through you.”

Friendship had always been so important to Tino. His friendships with Lor, Carver, and Tish were the most important things in the world. He’d do anything for them, and the fact that he had made things weird with Tish… He didn’t know how to undo it. He wished he had never slept with her, even if it had been amazing sex. He had never expected sex to be that good. Tino raised an eyebrow at Tish when she said she wasn’t annoyed, and rolled his eyes when she mentioned she was ‘upholding his request’. “I meant I don’t want to talk about the thing.” Tino responded, as if it were the most obvious thing in the world, “I still want to talk to you. You’re my friend.”

Tish had never considered herself to be the least bit promiscuous; she only did relationships, and even then she preferred to take things slowly. Hooking up with someone after a few drinks wasn’t her style, and there was a part of her that thought it must have meant more. Subconsciously, there was a chance she was harboring feelings for Tino that she’d never allowed herself to explore. And it looked like it was going to stay that way. “And you don’t think the continuation of our friendship will be the least bit awkward until we talk about the thing?” she asked, an eyebrow raised. While she already new what Tino’s answer would be, it felt worth a shot. “It’s just one quick conversation, just like pulling a band-aid off!’

Most people didn’t realize just how mentally gone Jenny was. Everyone knew that she wasn’t completely okay, but no one but Danila and the bodies she had left behind knew just how far that went. Maybe she should see someone about it, but she had no desire to do that. Psychiatrists would just lock her up, and in all honesty, Jenny loved her freedom too much to let it go. “I don’t think you will,” She said, “You’re a decent guy. An actual decent guy. Not one who plays pretend for show.” That was something she respected. People who were true to themselves… Those were the most important ones. She turned slightly in her seat, biting her lip with a coy smile as she faced him, “You’re learning.”

There was a small part of Danila that knew he should be afraid of Jenny. He’d seen just what she was capable of, after all, and he knew that if he ever got on her bad side, he would be next. But somehow, that was part of the thrill. He might not have been as far gone as Jenny, but something told him he was on the way. Everything she said, everything she did, just happened to make sense to him. Even if it was crazy - and not totally legal - he was on board. “Thanks babe,” Danila couldn’t help but grin at the compliment, reaching over and taking her hand in his, giving it a small squeeze. “You’ve taught me well,” he pointed out, taking a right at the lights, then taking a left at the next street.

Santiago had joined the rebellion, and it had been a shock for him and everyone who knew him. Santiago hadn’t wantedto join, but Brad had convinced him that he should. He explained the cause, and Santiago had decided he might as well help out. He didn’t know what good his powers would be, because feeling emotions wasn’t exactly something he could weaponize, but he joined. That was when he learned that emotions could actually be weaponized. He quickly learned how to use them against other people, it made him a powerful weapon, and Santiago loved the way that power felt. When Brad spoke though, he felt annoyance roll over him in waves before being cut off by such intense nonchalance that Santiago didn’t know how to respond. He just stared at his friend for a moment, “That… doesn’t make sense.” He shook his head, “At all, actually.”

While Brad knew that dangers of the rebellion, he often did his best not to think of them. Ever since he’d learned of his powers, he’d known that danger wasn’t too far away. It was an inevitability. But he was ready to fight, no matter the fear he might have felt. Having his friends at his side made it all the easier. Hearing the slight edge of annoyance in Santiago’s voice, Brad pressed pause on his game, tossing aside the controller and sitting up on the couch just enough to look over at his best friend. “I grew up with Brittany,” Brad reminded him with a shrug of his shoulders. “You’ve met my sister. Not everything my family does makes sense.” He was sure he had plenty of other habits that were only normal to his family, just as he was sure that Santiago would waste no time pointing them out as they came up.

Feelings weren’t something that Fallon enjoyed very much. She tolerated them because she had to, but she didn’t like them to come around very often. She preferred to bury them away. It was easier that way, much easier. Fallon liked when things were easy. However, when Nadia was around? Fallon couldn’t help herself. Nadia Sparks was beautiful and Fallon had fallen so hard, she couldn’t help it. “I’m not acting weird.” Fallon retorted, scoffing, “I can compliment you… I do it a lot. Hell, you’re the only one I ever compliment.”

Growing up the way she did, Nadia didn’t always know how to take compliments. She was used to her family always fighting, always demeaning each other - there was rarely room for niceties. And while Fallon might have been her best friend, she was a Bradford. She was supposed to be rough around the edges, even more so the than rest of them. Compliments didn’t always sit well with her. “Throw an insult in there or something,” Nadia whined, resting her head against Fallon’s shoulder. “It weirds me out when you act too nice.”

Things had been rough for the two of them, and Marco knew that. He knew it had taken them a while to get where they were… But he was happy they were there. He just wanted things to stay the way they were for the two of them. Marco kept Rosie close as he held her, and sometimes he wished she could just be a little less guarded around him. They were supposed to be happy together. They were supposed to let each other in. But that wasn’t happening right now… Marco knew Rosie better than she thought he did. “You know you can talk to me about anything, right?”

Rosie had never been one to believe in uncomplicated happiness when it came to relationships, but for a moment she almost thought that was exactly what she had with Marco. They were good together, they were happy, they didn’t even have anything threatening that happiness. Except for that small stick in the bathroom with a plus sign. Fuck. “I know,” Rosie nodded, wringing her hands together as she tried to work up the courage to tell him. “I know I can.” It had to do with him too, after all. This wasn’t a secret she could keep to herself. “I think I’m pregnant,” she blurted out quickly before she had a chance to stop herself, biting her lip nervously as she waited for his reaction.

Sirius knew that Marlene just had the best intentions and cared about him. He knew that she worried because she cared and that he needed to relax and let her help him if that was what she wanted to do… But Sirius had his reasons for being opposed to the entire plan. The fact that she was so freaked out? That was why he couldn’t have her on missions with him. They’d forget about the mission in order to protect each other, and Sirius couldn’t do that. “This is exactly why we can’t work together.” He said, shaking his head, “I care about you, you care about me. If the other is in danger? We’re going to forget the mission to protect each other. We… can’t have that happen."

Growing up with older brothers, Malene wasn’t used to being coddled. She’d always tried to prove that she was tough, that she had what it took to be one of the guys. And as much as she appreciated Sirius trying to take care of her, she didn’t want it. Marlene waved her hand to dismiss his concerns, not about to acknowledge them. “I know that you think loving someone is a weakness, but it’s not,” she snapped, her lips pursed together in a tight line. “It gives you something to fight for! What’s so bad about having someone who will always have your back?” Of course Marlene understood the importance of staying on mission - she was as much a part of the Order as anyone - but that wasn’t everything. “But can’t we at least give it a shot?”

Anderson needed this getaway from reality, especially with what he was about to end up going through. Chemotherapy was a terrifying concept, as was radiation, and he was about to go through all of it. Sure, he knew he had Dalia and his parents by his side, and that made things a bit better. But that didn’t mean it was something that he was truly okay with. He would never be truly okay with it. That was physically impossible. A diagnosis of cancer? That wasn’t something he could just… accept. Anderson frowned as Dalia questioned him, “You didn’t let me finish,” He said, taking her hand and squeezing it in an attempt to calm her down, “I already talked to my parents… They said it was okay. As long as I wasn’t alone… and I get that, I do.” He bit his lip and looked at their linked hands before looking up at Dalia again, “That’s why… That’s why I’m telling you. I want you to come with me.”

Growing up with super powers, Dalia had always been reminded of the long list of things she had to fear for. But cancer had never been one of them. She could hardly imagine what Anderson must be going through. “Right,” Dalia nodded, motioning for him to continue. Despite her nerves at Anderson’s news, a small smile curled onto her lips as he mentioned wanting her to come along. It wasn’t as though she could be all that surprised - they’d been friends for as long as she could remember - but she was still flattered. She didn’t even have to think about her answer. “Kind of a morbid reason for our first awesome vacation, but I’m sure I can convince dad,” Dalia said with a decisive nod. “I mean, we’ll probably have a squirrel or a bird following us around to keep track, though,” she added. Her life had never been exactly what you would call normal.

“Does that macho bullshit get other girls wet?” Emily asked Damian, leaning forward with an eyebrow raised. Maybe it was a little forward, but Emily had never been one for holding back. Especially when it came to Damian. She loved messing with him. Probably more than was appropriate. But hell, that was most of the fun. She moved over so she was directly next to him, leaning on the bar with her face in her hands, a smile mixed with a smirk being the only way to describe the expression on her face. “Because I can guarantee if you checked right now… It’d be having the opposite effect on me.” Maybe she should have actually acknowledged what he was really saying, but fucking with his mind was just so much more fun, and she’d have to be a fool to deny that.

While Damian hardly thought there was anything Emily could do or say to throw him off his game, he had to admit that her statement gave him pause. This was a new game of hers, and he wasn’t entirely sure how he felt about it. Not that he was going to let on. Damian didn’t let Emily win when it came to their jobs, and he wasn’t about to let her win now. He shook his head before chuckling, taking another sip of his drink. “I’ve never had any complaints before,” he admitted with a nonchalant shrug of his shoulders. He did, after all, have a string of girls in different cities hoping for a call back from him. “Are you upset about that sweetheart?” Damian asked, cocking his head to the side. He couldn’t help the cocky smirk that curled onto his lips as he spoke. Flirting with Emily wasn’t exactly his idea of a good time, but he had high hopes of getting her off her game.

A dry laugh escaped Carly as Sebastian spoke. She wanted to slap him. She wanted to punch him. She wanted to break him in every way she possibly could. She was hurt, she was furious, and she didn’t know what to do about it. She glared at him and she just wanted to kill him. Okay, maybe that was a little drastic, but she was still mad and hurt. Carly had a much worse temper than Marley, and it always got her into trouble. “I saw you, asshole!” She spat, glaring at him, “You and that blonde guy who looks like he was hit in the face with a shovel! You were practically eating his face!” She may not have had the right to beas mad at Sebastian as she was. She had been using him to distract him, but she had fallen for him and that made things completely different. “Maybe you’re not gay, maybe you’re bi. But that doesn’t change the fact that I saw you and a dude practically dry humping!”

Considering the basis of their relationship was a lie, Shiloh had been preparing to encounter Carly’s temper. But of all the things he’d expected, it hadn’t been this. The frown on Shiloh’s face deepened as he tried to figure out exactly what Carly was talking about. He’d spent his entire time in the audience - she must have been going crazy. Or seeing his twin. Of course it was Sebastian; he’d never really been able to keep his hands to himself. Biting his lip to keep himself from laughing, Shiloh pointed to an ugly blonde guy over his shoulder. “That guy? You think my standards are so low that I’d go for him? Come on, at least give me some credit!” Perhaps he was focusing on the wrong thing here, but the idea almost felt too ridiculous to take seriously. While he had no plans to admit to having a twin brother, he didn’t see how he was going to get out of it otherwise. “Babe, there’s probably something you should know about me. I have a twin brother.”

Rose knew how hard this was for Lissa. She wasn’t the type who dealt well with these kind of stressful situations, and that had been clear ever since the death of her family. But Rose tried to be there for her, especially now when there were so many people after her. Maybe Rose didn’t know the exact specifics, but Mrs. Karp had been very clear that Lissa was in danger. That had been a red flag for Rose, so she did what she needed to do to protect her best friend. “I can’t tell you that.” Rose responded, shrugging his shoulders, “We just need to go.”

Lissa kept up the pace as much as she could, doing her best to run alongside Rose, but she couldn’t help but argue slightly. She was just wanted to be kept in the loop; this was her life too, after all. It wasn’t that she didn’t trust Rose - she trusted her with her life - but she was brimming with curiosity. Best friends were supposed to tell each other everything. “You know, it hardly seems fair that you can see into my head but you won’t tell me what’s going on,” Lissa pointed out, shooting Rose a look. At least that wasn’t a question this time.

He had missed Chelsea so much, and he had been sure that when he got involved with The Eye and the Four Horsemen that he would have to give her up. But now? Now Jack was a full-fledged member of the organization, and here he had Chelsea. She was his best friend, his partner, and overall? His better half, if he was being completely honest. He held her close as soon as she hugged him, and he just held her for a while, closing his eyes and he was so happy to have her there. “I know…” He muttered, kissing the top of her head absent-mindedly, “But I don’t want to risk it… It’s not anything that important for you to know. But when it is? You know I’ll tell you.”

While Jack was used to being on the run, it was something Chelsea was still adjusting to. As happy as she was, she missed her friends and family. It felt like her fingers were constantly itching to pick up, just to give them a quick call. To check in, make sure everything was okay. “Yeah, yeah, I know...” Chelsea sighed, smiling slightly as she felt his lips press onto he top of her head. It was something so small, but a comforting reminder that she couldn’t leave him even if she wanted to. She cared too much. “Can you just tell me if we’re gonna be here for a while? Like, can I make some friends or are we ghosting soon?” As much as she loved Jack’s company, it got awfully boring by herself on days when he disappeared.

The feeling of the salt water in her hair and all over her body was something that Cora missed more than anything else. She hated being stuck in limbo… If she got wet, her tail popped up, and if she was wet for too long it faded away so if she went to swim and find her family then she would end up human again and she would drown. At least, that was what she thought would happen. She hadn’t been able to experiment much… She was afraid. She couldn’t get rid of that fear. Now Cora was tense as she sat away from the table, waiting for the pool of water near the table to dry. She couldn’t get wet. Not here, not anywhere. It was a scary thing that she just wasn’t prepared to deal with in public. “I just don’t want to look like I peed in public.” Cora responded, looking down at the table hoping the excuse made sense. She couldn’t just open up and tell him the truth.

While Aaron couldn’t say that he had too much experience with girls, he knew there was something different about Cora. Not that he could put his finger on it; he couldn’t figure it out, no matter how much he tried. There was a small part of him that wondered if it was just his scientific curiosity, but a bigger part of him that knew he was rarely wrong. But whether there was something weird about her or not, that didn’t stop him from being interested. Dabbing at the water helplessly with the already damp napkins, Aaron hoped that she would relax soon. “If it makes you feel any better, I don’t think anyone would suspect that,” Aaron assured her, pressing his lips together to keep himself from outright laughing. She was cute, he had to give her that. “I don’t think most people just go about their day if that happens. At least, I hope not,” he added with a shrug.
