Cancerand death were things Zoe never thought she would be dealing with. Well, sheknew she would be dealing with death eventually, but she had always assumed itwould be much later in life. It didnât matter though, because now Zoe wasdealing with both. She needed to accept what was happening and she needed tomake the most of her life while she still could. That included dating andNicola was definitely the kind of girl she wanted to spend her time with.âSurprises are fun.â Zoe said with a smile, squeezing her hand. Sheled Nicola away from her apartment and toward the car, knowing her friend wouldhave a good time.
Nicola had been dealt a lot of bad news in her life, and for a while sheâd done nothing but wallow in it. It was too easy to feel sorry for herself. But after meeting Zoe, Nicola no longer wanted to sit around feeling sorry for herself. She wanted to be better than that. She was going to be better for Zoe. âSurprises can be fun,â Nicola agreed reluctantly. Sheâd never had much luck with surprises before, but she trusted Zoe. Something told her that she didnât have any bad surprises up her sleeve. âDo I at least get a hint?â she tried, looking over at the other girl with a grin. Patient had never exactly been the way she would describe herself.
