This day is a 4th anniversary of terrible events known as russian invasion of Ukraine, exactly where my life (and many others) became before and after. Alas, every place here is impacted, even the furthest from frontline.
Won’t be posting any art today and other unrelated stuff. This day must be the loudest reminder to the online community WTF IS GOING ON HERE FOR FOURTH YEAR IN A ROW. Especially after such harsh winter. Even luckiest spent it in darkness for most of the time.

The reason Black Hat is one of the best depictions of evil in fiction to me is because he has packaged and sold the idea of evil. He's monopolised the concept of being bad with services and products and institutions that standardise villainy, creating a world where villains are locked into a network that exploits them while maintaining the illusion that villains can benefit under his reign. Ironically, by doing this, he contributes to a system based in moral judgement that makes no sense and is only effective in turning a profit for the ones in power, which is in fact, super evil, so evil does actually run free under his reign, so he wins either way. If you are losing as a villain you can either be locked up by PEACE or go into debt to the Organisation. And according to them you cannot be a real villain if you do not purchase from the Organisation. Evil is business and business is good etc.
In the Villainous universe, the embodiment of the darkness in everyone's hearts isn't just omnipotent and shadowy, it's a spoiled, sadistic, uncomplicated, tantrum-throwing abusive manchild. This shows in how he dresses like basic-ass classic evildoer from a vintage era. Even how his movements are animated and his expressions are limited show that he's a monster barely keeping himself presentable and makes himself the axis the universe rotates around.
Someone like that doesn't have to be a mastermind genius because he just has to be himself in any civilization and the population will do the rest. There's something to be said about how BH is such an obvious horrible enemy of the world that most heroes are willing to overlook the flaws in their own society, he's not even responsible for a lot of PEACE's terrible actions. That universe will be both divided and united by lies and labels while BH barely has to lift a finger because fear and conflict are unavoidable staples of humanity that keep evil infinite. It's quite the vicious cycle.
Also he loves extreme capitalism and being worshipped as a god because they're the same thing to him. The Hat symbol has deeply stained their world in every crevice, as ubiquitous as a corporate logo or a religious symbol. Many companies want to be worshipped and many religions want to have mass influence, so who's to say one can't be both. Any magic thing can be ancient and powerful but not anything can market themself as divine. It's eldritch madness if one can only see his symbol everywhere they go because he wants to remind everyone of his image either supernaturally or physically. Honestly Black Hat got to make his lifelong passion into a career and full-time brand, good for him or whatever
Still he's both more and less mysterious than everyone thinks. Everyone either wants him or fears him, no one is able to treat him like a person, not even himself, his untouchability strips him of any personhood. I've said it before but I think Demencia and BH have something in common that way: they both objectify themselves and each other. Let's not even get into the mess that is what his employees' views on him mean for their own characters. He never has to answer the question of nature vs nurture because he likely wouldn't change even if he could.
He's everything Bill Cipher wants to be but he just uses it to be goth and sit in a stuffy office, so I'd say Bill wins here. BH on the other hand is like a creative who got really good at social media and is low-key suffering for it, which he fully deserves. Any small inconvenience to him is a win in my book
