is sammi class traitor bc family meat dynasty?
this feels like you were reading my messages because you’ll NEVER believe what I was discussing with my mutual yesterday. LMFAO.
short answer: sammy isn’t a class traitor because she never really does anything that would disrupt her class position nor does she move classes in the series. sammy begins the story as petty bourgeoise and remains petty bourgeoise by the end. to be a class traitor sammy would have to give up her farm or otherwise invest herself into anti-private property movements that would ultimately lead to her losing the farm.
sammy is petit bourgeoise (petty bourgeoise) or “middle class” more colloquially. this does not mean she’s rich, as is a common misconception. it means she and her family own their own labor but is not necessarily running a massive operation where they exploit other’s labor (though, many petty bourgeoise will have a few paid employees or take advantage of free labor by friends/family, which is still considered part of the way they exploit the proletariat). they own the land they work, the animals they raise, and they own the products they sell. she is definitionally not working class because of this. in fact, karl marx believed this class have “anti-worker” tendencies because they’re more likely to ally with legislature that hurts workers if it improves their margins (such as refusing minimum wage). this is somewhat reflect in how her family cozies up to biosyn. you might be able to argue sammy does a class traitor action by not cozying up to biosyn too, but again, sammy is not meaningfully sacrificing her class position to do so. she is not materially gaining or losing anything (only emotionally losing something).
a class traitor action would be more like if sammy promoted community ownership of her farm or willingly give up major amounts of profit to educate the public against her own interests as a business owner. marxism believes in the dictatorship of the proletariat (rule of the workers) and a property-less society (no one would “own” businesses. ‘private business’ is far more accurate to what ‘private property’ means than, like, your dvd collection, for instance). a real example of someone we’d generally consider an upper class traitor is fredrick engles, co-author of many of marx’s works, who funneled major amounts of his bourgeoisie money into sponsoring proletariat revolutionaries and encouraging them to revolutionize the public against his class. sammy could very well do this in the future, but in current canon she is a non-class traitor petty bourgeoise (as are kenji and brooklynn, because this isn’t unique to sammy by any means!!! many protags in the franchise aren’t actually working class!!!)
