explaining the psychology behind why claire and owen are Like That to fandom casuals is truly very hard because it's like. approximately 50% of it is a kink thing. you very much cannot grasp the deeper meaning of what's going on if you don't accept the baseline that they're very horny people in a constant alpha vs. alpha powerplay that will inevitably culminate in sex. this is the text we're given, not a fandom thing.

for instance, "stick together... for survival" is a borderline layered innuendo. it was used, word for word, as a way to say they immediately found a hotel to fuck in both here and in total film magazine's jwfk edition which states "when we left off, claire and owen, said that they were going to stick together for survival, which is maybe code for 'we should go somewhere and relieve the sexual tension somehow'". which is far from the only time it's been just downright stated that they spent a significant part of the immediate aftermath fucking. "you get the idea that claire and owen were going to go off somewhere and make out. and they did." and "owen and claire have seen each other naked because they dated for a little while" from a partially lost media naked and afraid ad from 2018.

and i say alpha vs alpha because to say owen wants to "tame" claire would be a complete misreading of what's going on. "Part of that human story is my character, Owen, trying to draw the animal out of Claire. And at some point, the whole situation does draw the animal out of her, and she goes down to that fight/flight mentality… and she does something very heroic and animalistic and incredibly sexy. … Claire is a little more reserved, and he likes when she turns into an animal." "...They are both vying for control..." as claire self-labels in the ride video, she is an unapologetically domineering 'alpha' woman. which, as the quote above states, is what owen is actually into about her. he wants her to take the bait and fight back (such as their first meeting at the bungalow), not submit.

horniness very much is the thing being communicated 90% of the time. and i can prove it in a single scene. like. come on. the kneeling (oral) shot. while holding eye contact. holding eye contact while she touches her chest. the close-up on her thigh. the emphasis on his fidgety reaction TO bare thigh. this does not take a film degree
