I don't know if you've already answered this question, but I wanted to ask it to get your opinion. What do you think Claire and Owen would be like as grandparents?
surprisingly enough, no. I’ve never been asked.
I think they’d approach it very similarly to how their roles with maisie happened. albeit way more lenient because it’s a grandkid not kid proper. I don’t foresee much conflict with maisie over anything like “the proper way to raise kids” or any of that nonsense. they’re very content being grandparents instead of the primary caretakers.
claire doesn’t like kids except if they’re hers. this applies to grandbabies. all kids are evil ankle biters except her granddaughter (assumption that it’s a girl for sake of argument. they’re a girl family) who is perfect. she says everything like it’s very impressive. she’s one year old and she can already walk you know. like yeah. they generally do that in this time frame. owen is worse though because that’s his angel. she’d accidentally trip someone at the playground in a way that’s completely her fault and he’d be like oh my goddddd does no one watch their kids anymore? she could’ve been seriously hurt. he acts like he’ll Die if he doesn’t get grandbaby time. one week no pictures and he’s texting maisie like where’s my baby ☹️. and maisie jokes like jeez I see your priorities.
owen has a very hands-on approach in that he wants to buy an inflatable water slide so they can play. he is the grandparent who pushes her on the swings (and she’d be very demanding. she’s like that’s the worse push I’ve ever gotten. try harder. and he’d be like happy sigh. she gets that from grandma). he’s also the one they make go on the most terrible upside down multiple times roller coasters with her. he bravely shoulders this without complaint. claire is for bedtime stories and coloring and someone to repeat facts to over and over. claire hears the same fact about bears 30 times without complaint. grandma also gives the best gifts. she’s a Beast at christmas shopping. and she’s great at playing toys. much better than grandpa. her storylines are in character and engaging while owens always miss what she’s going for.
I don’t know if they’d live extremely close, but I imagine them living close enough that they’d be able to reasonably make every play/recital/sport/whatever. and they film them. owen has these hour long recordings killing phone space but he will never delete them. they always give massive applause and it makes granddaughter very happy. they’re so ready to praise every last thing she did, no matter how small, and the thing is is that they mean it. they are never sparing her feelings. it WAS life changing to see her do a little fairy dance. maisie would really like having them around at times like that because not only does it make daughter very happy, but it gives her a much needed break. they’re great at handling her high energy and managing to get her down at the end of the night too.
I also would like to imagine zach has kids around the same time and they’re like cousins to each other too. karen absolutely loves having a great niece and unlike tomboy maisie, this girl actually likes being put in dresses. she’s having the time of her life playing dress up with her great niece. karen probably spoils her more than claire tbh. they’re a smaller family which means they want to be tighter knit
