This isn’t a request I just wanted to tell you how much I appreciate all your symbols and how you don’t have restrictions on who can use them. I get really anxious looking for symbols because I fall into a lot of peoples DNI list for being an endo system.
And I hope you have something good happen to you soon
that means a lot to hear. you're not alone in that feeling. i literally block like 5 blogs a day for syscourse.
restrictions on who can use what to help them communicate based on something as eurocentric and narrow-minded as a DSM/ICD code is just straight up fascism to me. im sorry, i dont know how to say that any nicer. when we rely on oppressive systems of power to define our experiences, we exclude valuable members of our community and relegate our lives to be defined by suffering, which makes us easier to control, especially if our oppressors are the ones promising relief.
plurality in all of its forms is older and more complex than the institution of psychiatry can ever define. sure, it can be disabling and that space for recovery needs to exist, but at the end of the day, systems of all origins have more in common with each other than we do with the people who write the guidelines for what a "real system" is.
learning that the institution of psychiatry is against you, not for you, is a fucking shitty lesson to learn. it sucks. especially when it seems like that institution is your only way for someone to acknowledge the pain that you're in and provide relief for it, and especially if you cannot get it from your family or friends. a lot of disordered plurals are in that place and it fucking sucks. but that relief will not be granted by a fundamentally carceral institution.
in reality, going from an abusive or traumatic situation to the care of an institution is just "jumping out of the frying pan into the fire". trust me, i have lived it (albeit wrt to psychosis, not disordered plurality)
TL DR , i believe that every single person on this earth has the right to communicate. i will stand by that till the day i fucking die.
disclaimers bc ik some of yall will take this in bad faith:
i am NOT saying that no one should visit a doctor or therapist for their mental health. i AM saying that the institution that provides those services has been designed to oppress Mad people into acting sane and interacting with that institution can be retraumatizing, especially for BIPOC who are overpoliced and underserved wrt mental health services.
i am not saying anti-endos are bad people or inherently fascist. i don't believe in good or bad people, just good or bad actions. its easier to think in binaries of 'real pain' versus 'fake pain' when no one is hearing you screaming for help.
sorry to get so serious! it frustrates me to see people using a flawed system as the thing that will protect them when in reality, the cure always has been and always will be, community and mad liberation.
i hope something good happens to you today!
