Happy Trans Day Of Visibility! As a trans artist, I love our community and I love being trans, and I love how we come together and love and uplift each other. Even though there’s lots of hurdles we face, I look forward to the day when we can all rise up and celebrate our transness without fear!

SWEETEN THE POT
Idiomatic Meaning: Â A way to manipulate people to do something by making it more tempting, attractive, alluring than it might ordinarily be, especially financially; increase the stakes to make something more desirable.Â
Literal Meaning: Adding a sweetener, such as sugar to a pot in which something is cooking.
Usage: Informal, spoken and written American and British English. Usually having to do with money directly or financial worth.
Origin: Late 19th Century, American and British English – The expression originally comes from gambling; when players make new bets, they will sometimes say they are “sweetening the pot” as they throw chips in. This means the “pot” (i.e. the money that will be won by the person with the best hand) is larger and therefore more desirable to all players.
Why is this funny? In the photo, we see a cook adding sugar to a pot in which something is cooking. An observer asks the cook why they are adding the sugar. The cook replies that it is the only way to get the people for whom they are cooking, to eat the food. In other words, the cook is making the food tastier so that they will eat it. The cook is “sweetening the pot” by sweetening the pot.
Sample sentence: The car salesman “sweetened the pot” by adding free floor mats to his offer to entice me to buy his car.
