Getting the Message Across
John Kotter in the very famous Leading Change teaches us that effectively communicating a vision consists of:
Simplicity - no techno mumbo jumbo
Metaphor, example, analogy - compare it to something people can relate to.
Multiple Forums - need to communicate in multiple channels. Follow up your email campaign with laser etching Death Robots R Cool on the moon
Repetition - people will only get it after they have heard it many times. Stomping on the them doesn't help.
Leadership by example - I already let Death Robots rule my household. (My early prototypes are just my cats)
Explanation of inconsistencies - Address things that seem out of place. I didn't democratically elect my cats, but that's only a temporary setback that will be fixed in the next sprint.
Give and Take - it's a two-way communication. Get feedback and actually listen. I tried and failed at this when I thought a focus group was a group of people I focused Death Lasers at. Ooops!
Bad Example: "Our mission is to leverage non-teach pendant Death Robots to actuate positive change in the global dynamics of human vi human interaction. We'll use global scale to achieve first in market eminence to outperform all government and alternatively motivated scientist based competition."
Better: We will be the first company to invent Death Robots to make the world a better place.
