Hi, my name is Debbie. In Februari 2015 I decided it's about time I learned how to sew and my mom is happy to teach me. Long Hooded Cloak Pattern {FREE}  + Tutorial 

This long hooded cloak pattern is easy to follow and is perfectly priced at free! I love this! A FULL length hooded cloak that’s a free sewing pattern with step by step instructions! I used the hood and neckline of this pattern for my Harry Potter robe!

So I'm making something again. I better call this blog 'debbie sporadically sews'. So this time it's a Hogwarts robe, based on the ones from the prisoner of Azkaban movie, so outside black, inside house colour.

Now I'm a proud Hufflepuff, which I do believe I've proven today by my hard work. :')

I've drawn the pattern (which is a very simple one to be honest, I was also kind of forced into this due to not having a lot of fabric, and not wanting to spend €80 on fabric). So a breakdown of the work done:

-drew and cut pattern.

-put pattern on fabric and cut 6 times. (Lining front/back/hood, all separate pieces, fabric not wide enough for a fold, 6 pieces. Outer fabric front/back/hood, back on the fold so 5 pieces.)

-made sure the entire lining has been made fray-proof.

-put the hood of the lining together

-put the 2 back pieces and the front together

So basically that leaves putting the hood on the lining, making the outer fabric fray-proof, put that together, and then put the lining and outer fabric together. After that it needs pockets, but I'll just do those by hand. :)

Also, pointy hoods are amazing.

I don’t only sew, I also knit! ... since yesterday.

I’m making it in yellow and black though (hufflepuff <3) Also I was a bit overzealous by setting up the first row and when I started counting I was already at 124 rather than 100. So ermh. I just left it at that. This scarf is going to be HUGE. :D 

Also I got hurt getting the yarn. I decided to wear my high heels that I am not used to walking on. BIG MISTAKE.  My skin is actually ripped off over a length of like 4cm and is bleeding :c (and lets not mention the blisters, I had to tape on 7 bandages yesterday)

IT IS DONE. IT IS FINALLY DONE. And I have lacked updates as I was working too hard to get this finished.

So this is for the Bernina Challenge - Rock the Needle. The challenge was to make a bath-cape for children following a pattern they posted online. This will be my submission, a Harry Potter inspired quidditch robe, for after playing quidditch. Because why not be in style after you get out of the shower as well? 

Anyways, fingers crossed. Going to be calling a dealer nearby tomorrow to see if they participate. If not... I’ll have to send the cape by mail somewhere :c

Eeeeeeh ordered some really awesome fabric a few days ago and I’m SO impatient to see it!

I’m actually getting it for my birthday as I’m too poor to buy fabric that’s so expensive, but if I get the money earlier I can ‘buy it back’ from my parents before that time!

Oh and I ordered fleece for my quidditch robes/badcape project. Which I kinda need like preferably 2 weeks ago when I didn’t know yet that I needed it. ^^

Bountiful day at the market, and pitiful quality picture. Anyways, there's red bath-towel fabric in bright red, yellow cotton, 3m of yellow biasband(I don't know the English word right now. It is used to give a pretty fabric edge to fabric, which you actually see on towelsvall the time), and 6m of the same stuff in red. Then there's 5m of yellow ribbon, 3 golden buttons, and embroidery thread in black, white, yellow, less bright yellow, brown and red. And all this will be made into a bathrobe for kids, which will be designed to resemble a gryffindor quidditch outfit!

Bag is finished! (For now) I am quite happy with the resulresult, as you can see the bag closes itself once you pick it up, which is absolutely great! It is ready for the fair I'm going to this Sunday, but afterwards I will remove the stitching that attatches the straps to the bag. Instead I'll sew buttons on the bag, and make buttonholes in the straps. This way the bag will be reversable to the polkdadot lining. :)

A quick update on the bags I'm making. Currently just working on the black one, as I want to use it this Sunday. The black one is reversable, so I can also use it to match my skirt. The bags will close themselves once picked up, I'll link to the pattern later where you can see how that will work out. For now I just have to hurry on getting the last materials I need and finish it up!

Eek, been a long time since I gave an update. 

The hem of my skirt still hasn’t been sewn, as I am still not thát confident in my handsewing skills. 

Aside from that, next week the yearly event named ‘the elf fantasy fair’ will be held in the Netherlands, which I will be attending, as every year! So I have been busy making a bag for it, sewing up the back of a dress and might have to give a medieval-ish helmet some lining, though the weather appears to be completely terrible. So I might leave that one at home. 

In the meantime, I’ve also read pride and prejudice, seen the 2005 movie, and the miniseries from 1995, and I am hellbent on making a regency dress. As I can’t find any patterns that are historically accurate, I will just do with a pattern from simplicity. I will however need to make a corset, a shift and a petticoat to go along with it. To still give the dress a bit of a wow-factor I will have to take up the needlework I suppose and do some embroidery on it. And as such this project needs to be taken on pretty soon, if I want to finish it before next year... :’D

As I want to practice sewing by hand rather than machine (for the hemming of my skirt. Doing it by machine is quite annoying and very difficult to get right) As a fan of harry potter, and being sorted into Hufflepuff on pottermore I want to make a somewhat realistic looking badger plushy. Now it seems impossible to find a pattern that I like for it. As such I found a pattern of a polarbear instead, of which the head somewhat resembled the shape. I am going to have to make adjustments to the pattern, and to make that easier for myself I am now making the polarbear from some scrap fabric. It might get cut up later again...

Buttonhole has been made, interfacing has been sewn in, and the waistband is attached to both the skirt and the lining of the skirt. Going to have to attach the button now and do the hemming. The latter is usually done by hand, however my sewing machine seems to have a special foot for it. As I don’t trust my handsewing skills I will be trying that out!

And the zipper has been attached! Granted, with quite a bit of help from mom. But it's in, and quite invisible. Things left to do are attaching the interfacing to the waistband, attaching skirt and underskirt to the waistband and the button/buttonhole.

Just did some shopping for a blind zipper and a button. The lenght of zipper that's needed has also been carefully calculated by pinning the seam and attempting to pull the skirt over my hips, removing pins until I could. Because screw math. Hoping to finish the skirt this week at the very least ^^

The mushroom pincushion in all it's splendour. It falls over sometimes, but it does it's job.

Front and sides stitched together. Now just the back and sides and then that all together. After that the 'real' work begins: a blind zipper on the side, a button and sewing everything to the waistband. Also the fabric looks blue because of the light, but its dadkbrown like in the second pic!

Pinning the lining(? Not sure if that's the correct term. It's a second layer of skirt because the fabric is too thin) Also pincushion in action ^^
