bucky grinned with pride as he hugged her back, unable to help a small chuckle leave his lips as he pulled away. “can i get that down on paper for when you eventually go through your moody teen phase? ‘cause i’m gonna remind you of it forever.” he crossed his arms before nodding at the bar again. “you did good, kid. wanna go again?”
really - they could’ve been doing anything. debbie would have been just as happy spending time with her dad if they were sitting in silence across from each other at the breakfast table, or playing ping pong. half of it was pride in herself, happiness in him helping her. but the other half was just appreciation for having one parent who cared enough to be there. “oh - sure you can! but i’d like to raise that to a friendly wager: bet’cha a dollar, that’ll never happen!” course, she didn’t know what she was talking about. no one could ever know the future, and debbie was likely to be just as affected by every teens fatal need to be the worst - but she couldn’t imagine it, just yet. “can you show me how to do something different? like-” she looked around, every inch still hyped up about what she’d just accomplished, until she located something she didn’t even know the NAME of- “like THAT thing!”
