Introductory Post?

Yeah, I can do that.

I'm a 30+ unhinged, adhd, fae-adjacent, disabled nonbinary fanfiction creator, and novelist.

I've been writing fanfiction for a variety of series for over twenty years (and dear lord, I am ancient when I say that), starting with Card Captor Sakura in the 90s (which I am not embarrassed about) and Naruto (which I am).

These days, I've made a home for myself in the Bungo Stray Dogs fandom. I write mostly SKK, because their dynamic makes me want to fix them, and have an unhealthy love for Ranpo, for being a little shit, and Yosano, for being a homicidal healer.

I write mostly angst, mostly happy endings, and whatever I feel like in-between. I have an internal promise with myself that I will never leave a piece of work unfinished. I just might forget about it for a bit.

I have a healthy love of LGBTQ+ history, and am currently working on getting another degree so that I can wave a piece of paper at people and say, with a glass of wine in my hand, "Listen. LISTEN" and have them edge away slowly and not listen at all. I could do this without the degree, but might as well have the credentials.

The depresso espresso has been killing my writing recently, but I would like to thank the GO3 ending for making me angry enough to get up and want to write a story to fix that shit.

I am lucky in that i have never been accused of AI writing. I don't use ChatGPT (and in a real story, I didn't even know what it was until like a year ago), and I never will use it either.

This being said, if I ever were accused of AI writing, I don't know what I would do. I don't know if I would take my fics down or leave them up. I don't know if I would moderate comments or no longer allow them.

I do know that it would kill any joy I have for fanfic and writing in general, which is a hobby that I have cultivated for almost 30 years. And if its not making me happy, why do it?

Stop these witch hunts. Stop harassing authors. Fanfic creators give you content for FREE. If you don't like the content, the back button exists for a reason. Stop destroying fandom spaces with the incessant need to "weed out ai". Your efforts of "ai checking" 90% of the time are feeding works TO AI for it to learn more.

fanfic writers deserve better

if we post too fast, we get accused of using ai (no, you don't know how fast someone can write. you don't even know if the "too-frequent-to-be-human updates" you see are something that have long been finished and sitting in an author's drafts for god knows how long. just because it's recently posted, doesn't necessarily always mean it's recently written too. a lot of writers finish the whole thing first before they start posting it chapter by chapter).

if we take "too long to update", we get people pressuring us to "update faster" even though fanfics are our hobbies and we write for ourselves first and foremost.

if our works are grammatically correct, we get accused of using ai (some of us just love correct grammars).

if our works are not grammatically correct, we get insulted/criticized (mind you, not everybody writes in their native language. kudos to writers who write in their second, or third, or fourth language — I'm willing to bet a lot of people who criticize fanfics because of poor grammar can't even speak other languages besides english).

if our paragraphs are "too long and too detailed", we get accused of using ai.

if our paragraphs are "too short", we also get accused of using ai.

if we are autistic and we write in ways some deem "too robotic", we get accused of using ai.

some people just don't use their brains to think "ai was trained on human-made works, it was trained to look human-made. ai writes this way because the way it writes is the way real humans write — real humans whose works it was trained to mimic". instead they somehow disregard this logic and think "hmmm this work looks ai-generated. I will engage in witch hunt, be a bully and harass writers whose works I don't vibe with".

Rewatching Lord of the Rings (Extended Edition) and I'm at the Battle of Helm's Deep, cinematically one of my favorite scenes ever created, (my adhd brain is so honed in for all this) but I want to talk about Gamling.

Gamling, if you recall, is the (alleged, according to the One Ring Wiki) Captain of the Helm's Deep garrison, and trusted man of King Theodan during a really fucked up time. He comes off in the movies as a stalwart and down to earth man, and we love him for it.

He is also clearly had either theatre training or worked in the circus as a youth. Because man only had to shout once to Aragorn from two stories up over the din of an army of 10,000 orcs, along with the general hootenany of a thunderstorm, and he got Aragorn's attention on one shout? Theatre training. And not just any theatre training, this is clearly Wild West, saloon, Vegas showgirl techniques as taught by Sister Mary Clarence level of theatrical training.

Rewatching Firefly (because Fillion has been trolling us all on Insta) and things I've been thinking about:

1. Wash is hands down my favorite character. He's just good people to have in your life.

2. I still know all the words to the opening song. (Even though the last time I watched this show was like 2013)

3. And also to the Hero of Canton - my cat got a full dance number to go with it.

4. I have cosplayed Kaylee on 4 separate occasions (including when i got to meet yh3 actrrss) and conventions and I still love her 12 years later. (My only other Firefly cosplay was a friend and I as Two by Two, Hands of Blue and even though that is the laziest cosplay I have ever done, it remains the one that people liked the most lol)

5. This is making me want to write found family fanfiction. I had a sad Simon fic, and a Book fic from the before the comic days i wrote a thousand years ago but now I want to write more just chill ship times.

6. I also want to write a super angst Simon centric fic. I love him, but he's got so much whump potential.

7. Firefly, a show i have watched 12billion times, is fantastic background things for my brain.

I usually don't write super dark fics but damn if I don't have a really fucked up idea.
