i lowkey highkey fw with you. is there a tier for alphas or is it just normal and submissive alpha? and if an alpha nesting is called denning would a submissive alpha prefer to say they are nesting rather than denning (since a submissive alpha would prefer omega perfume)? also what even is a submissive alpha? bc in omegaverse omegas are usually shorter (love me a big omega tho) and alphas are usually taller so would a submissive alpha be more likely to be shorter than a regular alpha?? i also wonder if submissive alphas share like physiology with omegas like if a submissive alpha with produce slick or go into a more traditional heat rather than rut, and even then i wonder how your heats/ruts are described and different they are to each other in ur au. one last thing 😭 bc ive been reading recent omegaverse ive noticed how more works have only the alpha bite and how its not even on the nape of the neck sometimes!! back in my day it was alpways there and both parties had to do it so its rlly cool to see it kinda evolve in different ways which makes me curious to know how you worked this out in your universe. sorry if its a lot, i js freaking love omegaverse world vuilding 😭😭

Tiers

I think there are tiers to alphas, omegas, and betas. Because to me, omegaverse is a deeper reflection of our own universe! We have invisible, but acknowledged, tiers without those dynamics

To be distinct, submissive alphas are not lesser.

In my opinion it is not a clear cut “Alpha Tops”. There is more nuance in the age/sex/interactions. For example, an alpha who exhibits submissive behavior is not just a submissive alpha. All alphas at one point exhibit submissive behavior. Be it to their family, superiors, etc.

There are alphas who bare their nape in polite submission during working hours. Playful tilts of the head, a submissive gesture. The act of being scented is considered submissive. Moments.

For a submissive alpha, submission is not just moments. It is their entire being. Sure they can and will exhibit dominance, but they are much more comfortable in submission.

In a very roguish human way, I think of a submissive alpha being so in all ways. Be it socially, mentally, sexually. It’s their dynamic.

Denning vs. Nesting

A really good question!

Yes, I do think submissive alphas as a majority might prefer to use to the term nesting! Because, there is no difference in nesting v. denning!

They both have the same goal of surrounding themselves with scent, marking territory, luring a mate. It is the social urge to differentiate.

My world building is within the idea of Omegaverse to play with traditional roles. Regardless or in regard to sex and gender!

Some might reject tradition even beyond the dynamic of submission/dominance. It is up to preference and the shedding of expectation. Personally, I see the punk crowd having a fun time with that thought 💭.

Mating Marks

I have seen soooo many different versions of these over the years! God bless early me..

I am not sure which version I am more partial to, scarification or telepath or empathic abilities. Truly there are too many to choose from!

Going within human capabilities, to my view mating marks are not permanent. Not hickeys. They are a mixture of visibly marking someone and longevity. Biting makes impressions, literally.

I think this heavily depends on dynamics, placement, and longevity of the relationship. There is an influence in outside perception in regards to visibility and depth of marks.

Deeper, more exposed bites are possessive. Fleeting superficial marks, shallow in taste. Multitudes, scandalous and disgusted.

Like I mentioned earlier, different generations have very different perceptions. To the older generations, mating is only between A&O B&B. Marriage is the contractual submission, a bite to the nape physical submission.

Younger generations have a bit more of a twist. The view of dynamics shifting between dominant omegas and submissive alphas. The act of biting and being bitten changes meaning to some.

There are more cases of mutual biting, beyond the elderly perception of Omegan submission. The physical way of claiming one another before a ring enters. Another physical intimacy.

To answer your question, submissive alphas would prefer being bit. They relish in carrying, an often inconspicuous mark. Dominant omegas prefer to do the biting, relishing in their mark.

I do want to clarify, submissive alphas aren’t just for dominant omegas. And vice versa ;)

Perfume & A/B/O Verse

Personally, I’m of the opinion you don’t smell like pine trees or cotton candy depending on designation. You smell like yourself, just more.

You have a scent, a human one just like now.

But because evolution has made it stronger and more influential in mating. Likable scents have basically been handpicked and bred into humans.

Over time this has created a demand for sales! For customized perfumes. Based on designation

Our world reflects this in perfume vs cologne.

The difference is based in the strength and its influences. With perfume parlors often employing sharp nosed individuals, to give customers a more intimate, customized scent and experience.

The accentuated scents make a considerable difference in perception. For example,

Dominant Omegas will often use perfumes and accents associated with and curated for Alphas.

Submissive Alphas will also use perfumes and accents made for Omegas, to appear gentler.

There seems to be something within the these scents that are associated with designations.

Also where Omega/Alpha media gets the whole from,

“ an Alphas scent is naturally musk and pine ~ “

Fantasy. Opera. Telenovela type descriptions.

The type of media that has brainwashed the masses into believing “all omegas” should be as sweet as their scent. Incels griping how real omegas near them don’t smell like that. They’re fakes for wearing perfume and not training themselves to be all natural.

Alpha Scent Studies

Because humans have naturally weaker senses of smell compared to their animal counterparts. Across our species, we evolved scent glands.

Which correspondingly produce stronger, more intense scents. To compensate weaker senses.

Both Alphas and Omegas share an intense change upon presentation. Beyond scent glands. The senses themselves become stronger!

Not inhumanly so but just enough to differentiate the subtleties reflected in human scents. Such as, the difference between frustration and anger.

Where a betas, relatively, weakened sense can only smell anger from either emotion. Alphas can discern sharply between the two.

Originally scientists speculated, the change in sense between both Alpha and Omega sexes must be linked to mating. With Alphas adapting to sensitive Omegan changes.

But slowly a new thought rolled into the outdated scientific community, as Omegas joined it force. The thought that these changes were actually evolved due to societies.

That alphas tend to be natural leaders due to the insight led by those enhanced senses of smell.

Through controlled experiments, researchers realized alphas don’t just react to scents consciously. They react unconsciously as well.

On a chemical level, alphas are preemptively reacting to minute changes in designations.

An alpha placed with an alpha might unconsciously overcompensate their scent. Broadcasting the scent in a way that the other alpha could find irritating and therefore react. However, when placed within a group of familiar alphas, the scents stayed relatively muted. Sharing a rare harmony, even rarer seen outside of close pack dens and nests.

Curiously, an alpha placed with a beta produces a stronger scent, which the betas weaker senses are able to pick up on. (See also Omega groups) Including pitches in emotions that allow even a betas weakened sense to differentiate easily. Including the earlier example of frustration vs. anger, an alphas pitch up can help a beta sense.

Controversially, an alpha placed with an omega does not weaken their scent in proximity. Interestingly similar to an alpha, alpha the scent of the alpha is overcompensated. Though it does have subtle changes more betan scientists cannot sense. Where an alphas scent softens becoming almost sweeter in a subtle cocktail of pheromones.

Imagining Omegaverse overstimulation makes my skin craaawl. Because,

Alphas naturally have an enhanced sense of smell (linked to those good hunter vs. gatherer days).

So imagine that it’s been a hard day at work. The only thing you want is the comfort of your den. Literally the only thing holding you together, is the fact your car smells so solely like you.

That you spent an hour within its confines

In your driveway, yeah. It’s pretty bad.

Even the truly faded scents of betas that had brushed you during day are overwhelming. Even worse the preteen on the verge of presentation.

Who had knocked into your back while roughhousing..

Oh, like the volatile teen hormones aren’t enough. The higher being from hell had to throw in budding pheromones… which produce at varying strengths, regardless of overstimulated senses!

So yeah, you’re pretty sure you hate kids. Adults. Hell even the stairs that bar you from your den.

Who had the audacity to make them so steep, why did you lock your door again???

Your den. Which offers no outside scents, as you’re quick to shed scented clothes outside its walls. Just arguably clean air, rife with your scent.

It would be so soo easy to climb within its cushiony cacophony. Accepting temporary death in accordance with tempering your senses.

But meticulousness has you climbing in the shower. Washing away the invading scents.

Until Finally. You are able to launch yourself within the angel soft masterpiece.

The piece de resistance, your denned in bed. Which feels so so cool, on every sense.

Like a cold plunge

A factory reset.

A damn good place for an after work nap.

As you drift into dreamland, you thank someone. For the fact that your own scent is a comfort to thine own aching senses. That the world allows you one. Really really good thing. <3

Headcanon,

Alpha gas station attendants are allowed to work through their pre-rut all the way to full rut. Depending on the type of station.

You can feel it in the way your teeth ache.

It’s not even 20 minutes into your shift when the pre-rut symptoms start edging in. Symptoms that give you more energy than you need.

As far as your instincts can tell this little cubicle of a gas station is your den. Which isn’t wrong with how many hours you’ve spent inside its walls.

But still, your employer might not take kindly to you bearing teeth at the asshole littering..

But there’s not much you can do, when it is peak. Where you are stuck in this box for the next, oh seven hours.

Later, when peak is melting into something manageable, you take a breath.

There is extra energy still wound up but you’re conserving that for closing chores. Short bursts are managed by record breaking refunds and subsequent staplings.

Positively, it doesn’t seem like your patrons noticed, with interactions barely lasting a minute. But you’re cautious in keeping the sliding glass closed and your wrists scent glands inside.

Not everyone wants a nose full of active pheromones. Yourself included.

So you’re grateful, as the flow slows to a trickle.

It gives you time to grind aching molars together in a mockery of claiming. For you to stomp out the aggression that’s been slow cooking all day. To further resist the urge to scent this “den”.

Disney making princess candles for kids so that they can find comfort in their favorite characters. Perfumes that accent a budding scent but still remind you of Ariel or Cinderella.

Anime studios making limited edition XXL candles with the latest in scent technology.

Like extremely high quality sold for $500+. Like imagine an Otakus den smelling like a replica of Makima from Chainsaw Man. Shivers

Infinite possibilities. Where I’d like to think if someone’s going through a rough rut. They’d break out the candle they’ve had since childhood. And just cry as a familiar comfort surrounds them

Collecting the perfect detergents and scent enhancing sprays that represent them.

Making a nest for it and biting during rut.
