Taron Egerton in “Stars in Cars”
Oh, sorry. You just seem familiar. Do you do any sports? Wait, you don’t have to answer that… I don’t wanna come across as a creep.
“It’s fine. Yeah, I actually do happen to do some sport.”
BITING HER LIP A BIT HARDER AS SHE CONSIDERED HIS OFFER, the blonde sighed silently before locking her eyes on the boy in front of her. “i kind of–screwed up something i really care about. and i don’t know how to fix it, anymore. i tried but–nothing seemed to help.” flora said, softly, throwing him a tiny smile.❞
As the blonde began to speak, Declan straightened his back a little as he nodded lightly to let her know that he was listening. “Well I’m no professional on the matter, but it seems to me that if you really care about it, there’s always a way to fix it. You have to fight for it.” He shrugged lightly, not knowing what else to say with the little details he has.
––– ‘ Would it irk you if I asked for your autograph sooner or later ? It’s for my father, ofcourse. ’ Luna shook her head and smiled. ‘ Boxing always seemed too violent for me. It isn’t that odd, I just wasn’t expecting it. Perhaps I’m just narrow minded. ’
“That- that’d be fine. Yeah, sure. Why not?” The boy commented as he gave the girl a smile. “So he’s a big boxing fan then?” He asked as he pushed his hands down in his pockets. “I guess it seems violent to most people, yeah. But isn’t that exactly what most people like about it? Yeah, I suppose I wouldn’t be here had I not made that promise. I’d be in the gym, training for my next match...”
SMILING UPON HEARING HIS WORDS, flora shook her head softly, biting her lip as she averted her gaze to her hands. “i–yeah, kind of. but i don’t want to bother you with it.” the blonde spoke, silently.❞
“If you don’t mind telling a stranger, I won’t either.” Declan shrugged lightly. “I’ve got nothing but time at the moment. But hey- I’m not one to push, so it’s all up to you.”
“That’s noted. So how have you been?”
“Still getting used to the place, to be honest. What about you, huh?”
“Does both count as an answer? No, I just can’t believe you’re here but I’m glad to see you. I’m sorry that I freaked you out.”
“Next time, leave the staring part and just talk, yeah? Tends to be a bit more pleasant.”
––– ‘ You’re that boxer ! ’ she gasped in recognition. ‘ What are you doing here ? No offense, but this school doesn’t seem your scene. ’
“The one and only.” He nodded lightly in response. “Guess you don’t open the sport section of a newspaper often then,” he joked as he shrugged lightly. “Made a promise I’d attend university, and so here I am. Is it really that strange for me to be here, then?”
He is, actually. Not that I approve, cause it’s scary seeing people doing this. Like there is blood and it’s just awful, but anyway… OH! Oh god…you’re boxer, aren’t you? So sorry, I didn’t mean to….
“Ding ding ding, you’ve got it.” Declan responded, unable to hold back a laugh. “It’s fine, don’t worry about it. I get that it’s not quite for everyone.” He nodded lightly, trying to assure her that he wasn’t insulted by her comment.
AS IF THE BOY’S WORDS PULLED HER BACK TO REALITY, flora shook her head, smiling softly as she leaned back in her chair, realizing she had been staring–without even realizing it. “no–i’m so sorry. i was just–sunken in thoughts.” she excused herself, sighing softly as she ticked her finger to her head two times before dropping her hand–covered in the sleeve of her cardigan–back into her lap.❞
“Sunken in thoughts would be an understatement, I think.” Declan commented, a light tone to his voice. “It’s fine.” He said, brushing it off. “Something’s got you distracted then?”
Aurora’s gaze never strayed as she dead-panned: “Wow, it doesn’t take much to freak you out, does it? Maybe you should work on that.” A few seconds later she sighed and relaxed in her seat, finally meeting the boy’s eyes. “And for your information, I was staring past you,” she gestured to the window behind him, “Because it looked like some drama was about to go down, but sadly they’ve all cleared out now.”
“You can’t blame a guy for not exactly enjoying being stared at, even if it was just past his shoulder.” Declan commented lightly as he shrugged. “So you like watching drama then?” He said after quickly looking over his shoulder to see what was going on.
“Oh shit, I’m sorry. I must have spaced out”
“It’s alright, it was just getting a little bit weird. You seemed to be very deep in thought.”
Sorry… I’m not a creep. Just, I think you’re this guy my friend keeps going on about. I’m probably wrong.
“... I don’t know that many people here yet, so I kind of doubt it.”
Follow? Not exactly, I’ve watched sport channels with my brother few times…
“Well that’ll be where you know me from. Your brother wouldn’t happen to be a fan of boxing, would he?”
Aw, such a shame she didn’t come with you… That’s fine, my name’s Emily. It has been a while indeed…
“Trust me, she wants to eventually. She just has to convince dear old dad, which doesn’t come easy of course. Right, Emily! It’s starting to come back to me.”
––– ‘ Well, my father’s obsessed with it. Does that count ? ’ Luna asked tentatively.
“Well does he follow boxing by any chance? Because that would probably where you know me from.” Declan commented.
I just think I’ve seen you before, but maybe I’m wrong. Sorry for…freaking you out.
“Well it is actually very possible that you’ve seen me before, do you follow sports?”
