Tumblr and New York’s PBS station THIRTEEN have partnered to showcase on TV the work of Tumblr’s filmmakers, both aspiring and established.

THIRTEEN’s ‘Reel 13’ movie night airs a short film, voted online favorite of the week and broadcast to public TV’s largest market. For the month of May, ‘Reel 13’ will source the works of Tumblr’s creative community: All you have to do is enter your short film via the ‘Reel 13’ contest website between now and March 31. Be sure to include your Tumblr URL for consideration for the 12 May finalists for ‘Reel 13 Tumblr Month.’ 

Three Tumblr user films will be selected each week and put to an online vote, with four winners to air on THIRTEEN.

You can submit a film for consideration any time and still win down the line (‘Reel 13’ is an ongoing initiative of local public TV), but prizes during ‘Reel 13 Tumblr Month’ include $600.00 and a feature on Tumblr Storyboard.

My friend is suicidal and I keep trying to convince him that if he killed himself that a lot more people would be affected by it than he thinks. I want to prove to him that it would affect everyone around him and even people he doesn’t even know. I’m trying to stay really strong and help him but it’s hard sometimes. I’m not even supposed to be telling anyone this. I’m just asking you to reblog this if you would be sad if he killed himself. I KNOW people care.

Very sorry to hear this. Everyone has the ability to make a real, valuable difference in someone else's life. You never know it until it happens, and it's an amazing feeling that you can experience over and over again.  And for those who think their lives will never get better, just know that people can (and do) reinvent themselves as often as they wish. Once you take a moment to think about who you are and what you want to be, you can accomplish almost anything. Nothing worthwhile is ever easy, and life is definitely worth living.

I am slowly turning into a huge LGBT equality supporter and I love it. It’s not even LGBT rights. It’s HUMAN rights. like. wtf. It’s just really fun to me because it’s controversial. hehe. I foresee lots of exciting debates in the future about this.

Feel guilty only if you wronged someone else. Feel a sense of accomplishment if you achieved something through your own efforts. Feel grateful and thankful if you got by with a little help from your friends. And if spirituality means anything to you, pray that those who don't feel completely OK get whatever help they need. That help could come from anyone at any time -- remind yourself that it doesn't have to come from you.

i’m reading my comparative politics textbook and there’s an electoral system abbreviated as SMD and literally every time I read it a voice in my head shouts ‘SUCK MY DICK’ and it’s really hard to read when your book is telling you to suck its dick ugh

haha - comparatively speaking, the electoral system has been saying 'SMD' to everyone over the past 3-4 election cycles. It's become such a game now. Best look out for paper cuts.
