TKM is one of the funniest aftg books because neil is actively getting hunted for sport the entire time and instead of caring about that he’s just meddling in other people’s lives and playing therapist for 400 pages: telling kevin to start living for himself & and forcing the twins to go to therapy together & passing jean’s number on to renee so that she can talk to him. and it WORKS too. the field of psychology lost its best mind when neil decided to go pro w/ exy

one of my favorite parts of my job is that my students always trust me to Name Things. like they’ll hand me a little 3D printed creature or a stuffed animal or a little trinket and ask me what their name is, and i always hold the object very carefully and look at it and examine its vibes for as long as it takes for the perfect name to come to me, and they almost always accept whatever name i’ve given. they’ve also taken to calling it me “doing my magic” which is delightful

Andrew doesn’t hate Neil, when he says that in the books.

He hates that Neil makes him feel.

Neil bypasses Andrew’s carefully controlled nothingness without asking permission. He makes emotions surface that Andrew buried for survival: fear, want, protectiveness, hope. And Andrew hates those feelings because feelings have always been dangerous. They get you hurt. They get you trapped. They get used against you.

Neil doesn’t demand emotion, but he provokes it simply by existing, by staying, by choosing Andrew, by not leaving when he should. Andrew’s anger isn’t rejection; it’s resistance.

Because if Andrew lets himself feel, then he has something to lose.

And Andrew learned early that loss is fatal.

idk what neurodivergent young adult needs to hear this but you are NOT supposed to give 100% at your job. I've gotten more promotions and raises since I started giving 40-60%, which my evil CEO uncle informed me is what bosses actually expect when they say 110%. My mental health has improved tremendously. I've spent 2 out of 5 workdays secretly writing my novel for the last 2 years and I've never been more respected and appreciated. Also--when you see glaring wasteful errors in the company's operating systems, say absolutely nothing! Embrace inefficiency. It is your friend in this capitalist hellscape.

Neil being very protective over his Kevin time. Night practices. Lunch dates. Game reviews. If you suggest him or Kevin to cancel them, Neil will get mad. Not even Andrew dares to take Neil's Kevin time away. All other stuff needs to be adjusted accordingly.

the fact that neil feels nothing in the face of straightforward violence and murder because he's so desensitized to it but is so shaken to the point of feeling physically ill over any reminder of andrew being assaulted. deep down he's someone who cares deeply about people and he wasn't prepared for this kind of violence and he's never been numbed to it.
