With the drop of new C4 character art, there has been much guessing about what classes everyone will play. I am actually not well-versed in D&D classes. But I have been known for reading a book or two.
So while others speculate which classes and subclasses C4 will be, I will be answering the question no one has asked: If these characters were book protagonists, what kind of book would they be in?

Thimble. First of, a a lot of these will be fantasy genre. Especially Thimble. Hashtag cottage core. Imagine the Tinker Bell universe. A small but spunky protagonist who somehow got wrapped up in a plot to save their pastoral fairy home. Will the enemy be both physically and metaphorically bigger than she can handle or will she prove that the size of the person has nothing to do with the size of their heart.

Azune is the male lead in a historical romance. It is generally based off the Scottish highlands with enough name changes to evoke the feeling of Scotland without getting too much into the weeds of actual history. Azune is a soldier, a widower, and a girl dad. Also there is a light magic system.

If you ever wanted to get into the OmegaVerse but not fully commit, meet Kattigan. This is a wolf-man fantasy romance (and I am sat and reading). It’s quite a spicy book. Also it’s omegaverse lite because you’re not quite sure if he has a wolf companion or he can turn into the wolf companion. You’re gonna have to read it to find out.

Inspired by works by Octavia Butler, this novel takes place on a planet whose name you can’t pronounce. As the oldest living practitioner of (insert healing word here) of her tribe, Thaisha must go out to the battlefront on a journey to stop invading forces from eliminating not just her family but her entire heritage of what invaders consider ‘ dark magic’ from being lost. It’s technically a Sci-Fi actually and an allegory for the erasure of indigenous medicines during the time of manifest destiny.

This is a 19th century Dexter; historical murder mystery. Bolaire is an upper class socialite. High society life has stalled due to a string of murders by a masked man. Some suspect Bolaire is next to die due to his family’s standings. Plot twist. Bolaire is the murderer. He is removing people whom he has discovered are actually doing things worse than murder. Oh and he was raised as an only child but discovers he had a sister who was murdered by one of these evildoers in high circles. Part one of a trilogy.

Vaelus started as a Gideon the 9th fan fic. Many fans accused it of being a bit too much of a Mary Sue but that didn’t stop readers from consuming this AO3 novel. Follow Vaelus 100 years in the past from the current events of Gideon at one of the first meetings of all the houses. Still gay, Still spooky. Still 2013 tumblr humor.

Sir Julien Davinos was born Juliet of the house of David. This story is essentially Mulan but set in swashbuckling times in the Mediterranean. Let’s call it Historical Fiction.

Tyranny is the youngest nun in the Church of Beelzebub. She’s got the same sense of mischief and injustice as the rest of the nunnery. However she also has a brighter disposition than the rest of her colleagues. Is her ray of sunshine going to bring light to the convent or burn a hole through the habits? This is the origins of Pastel Goths, Also, technically a horror novel.

Fantasy Cozy Romance. It’s Tangled but gay. Halandil saves a mister from a tower by climbing his beard. Listen, it’s a hallmark movie of a book but worth the escapism.

Murray (as she is now known) owns the local raucous pub, a task she is more than qualified for. This book has chapters that go past to present to past to present. The past covers her life and misadventures as a bard and the present covers general bar shenanigans. At the end they intersect in some satisfactory way. So a general Cozy Fantasy book. Fans of Travis Baldree will love this.

Wicander is The Chosen One, whether he wants to admit it or not. He is shy and awkward and possibly gay, definitely not ready for the weight of the universe. This book is set in space but is more of a Galactic Opera than Science Fiction. It’s also sort of giving Dune but for a middle grade reading level.

Occtis has no friends. Unless you count his herd of created puppy familiars. He lives as a recluse on his family’s estate. And … Ok here’s what happens. It’s like the French Revolution and so the common folk are coming around eating the rich, and Occtis’ family sends him off to save him. And he just spends his whole time making puppies. So one day this commoner girl finds him and there’s conflict cus he’s supposed to be a “bad guy”. It’s a little bit of a Rich People apologist novel. But it has a huge following cus puppies. Let’s call it Cozy Fantasy but bordering on Problematic.

Monster Smashing. It’s a monster smasher. It was a Chetney fan fic that spiraled. Also he’s now a lion instead of a wolf to avoid copyright. Sort of like how a certain Twilight fan fic became 50 Shades of Grey. But with Chet. And now they’re all cats. And he can’t turn back into a human. But he can rip a bodice in record time. So, Fantasy Romance.
