It's strange how the story of YELLOWFACE unfolded for someone who only reads when boredom strikes.

The story is, however, relatable.

I chose to hold back my words not because I lacked the ability to defend myself, nor because I was afraid to speak my truth. It wasn’t because what they said was factual, and it certainly wasn’t because I am a coward.

Rather, I held back because I know how sharp my tongue can be. I understand that the words I might say would wound someone deeply. While spitting those words in the heat of the moment may bring me temporary relief, I know I would feel devastated later for causing someone pain—especially when my response is based on facts, not just opinion.

I chose silence to avoid inflicting harm. I decided to think before I speak, recognizing that the situation may lead to further conflict that leads to broken relationships.

I believe that those are just among the trials and tests to test my patients.

Sabr نَفْس. More sabr نَفْسِي. For I don't want us (other people involved) to drag each other in this life and hereafter. Rather, I believe in كَفَّارَة that even if I forgive the other person, they will face the consequences of their actions in Dunya or in the Hereafter. Indeed, He is Al-Hakeem and Al-Alīm.

Sufyān Ath-Thauri rahimahullāh said:

“Three (matters) are of patience: that you do not talk about your pains, nor about your misfortunes, nor praise yourself.”

Whatever it may be, always remember that it is Allah's Qadr. It is His will.

When he said, “It's neither poetry nor science, but there's something poetic and at the same time scientific about it.”

SubhānAllāh for the Quran is beautifully written.

Surah Adh-Dhariyat, Verse 17:

كَانُوا قَلِيلًا مِّنَ اللَّيْلِ مَا يَهْجَعُونَ

They used to sleep but little in the night.

Although worship at night may feel difficult, night worship, like Tahajjud, recitation, and prayer, strengthens faith, brings closeness to Allah, and gives peace to the heart. Therefore, instead of wasting time on the phone late at night, joining inappropriate gatherings, or engaging in sinful activities, we should use this time for worship.

وَمَا كَانَ لِنَفْسٍ أَن تَمُوتَ إِلَّا بِإِذْنِ ٱللَّهِ كِتَٰبًا مُّؤَجَّلًا. وَمَا تَشَآءُونَ إِلَّآ أَن يَشَآءَ.

And it is not [possible] for one to die except by permission of Allah at a decree determined. And you do not will except that He wills.

How a Muslimah Should Carry Herself

Shy : it will save her fitnah (temptation).

Quiet : she should not be loud, especally in public.

Be unknown : does not seek popularity. Unheard of to the creation, but known by Allāh ﷻ and His angels.

Dress modestly : she covers her awrah, has haya' (shyness), and does not display for herself for everyone to see.

Feminine : not a feminist. She follows the laws ordered by Allāh ﷻ, not the laws of man.

Does not seek attention : not desire for attention or recognition. Pleases the Creator, not the creation.

Has self-respect : focuses on guarding and preserving herself.

Stays at home : prioritize home life, only goes out when necessary. She travels with a mahram for safety. And she covers her awrah when going out.

How a Muslim Man Should Carry Himself

Modest : follows the Islamic guidelines on covering the male awrah, and lowers his gaze.

Humble : pratices humility, avoiding arrogance and riya' (showing off).

Respects women : treats all women with kindness and respect, not just those who he's attracted too.

Pious : devotes himself to worship and follows Islamic teachings, and the Quran & Sunnah.

Responsible : takes responsibility for his actions and fulfills his obligations as a Muslim man.

Exemplary : strives to be a positive role model for others, and follows the way of Rasulullah ﷺ.

Has gheerah : he is not dayooth (cuck), he has protective jealousy over his womenfolk.

“During times of ease, we do this out of thankfulness. During times of difficulty, we do this for patience and help.

Each time, the outcome with Allāh is guaranteed: Closeness to Him and elevation in His eyes.”

Tawakkul is seen as perfect trust in Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala and complete reliance on Him alone.

However, before we put all our trust in Him we must do our part as well. As Imam As-Sya'rawi said, “The external body parts work while the hearts surrender.”

Take this as an example, you can't leave a camel without tying it first and putting your trust in Allah. You have to tie the camel first before putting all your trust in Him.

Shukr (شكر) is when you look at the poor not at the rich.

It is about being grateful to Allāh Subhanallahu Wa Ta'ala for whatever you have and whatever is happening in your life.

Therefore, have shukr and rely on Allāh Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala alone and you will never be disappointed in this life.

Fun Fact Trivia!!!

Yawm al-Qiyamah is a punishment itself for the disbelievers since it will last for 50,000 years.

Allāh عزوجل says, “A challenger has come demanded a punishment bound to come for the disbelievers — to be averted by none — from Allāh عزوجل, Lord of pathaways of heavenly ascent and through which the angels and the holy spirit will ascend to Him on a day of fifthy thousand years in length”. [Qur'an 70:1-4]

EXEGESIS (TAFSIR) OF THE ABOVE VERSE

In the 7th century A.H. commentary by Imam al-Qurtubi (May Allah have mercy on him) comments on the above passage with the following transmitted opinions:

Ibn ‘Abbas (Allah be pleased with him) said, “It is the Day of Judgment. Allah has made its length for the Disbelievers fifty thousand years, after which they will enter the Fire permanently.”

Imam al-Qurtubi (may Allah have mercy on him) supports the opinion of Ibn ‘Abbas saying, “This is the best opinion regarding this verse if Allah wills. In support of this is the narration of Qasim bin Asbagh (may Allah have mercy on him) on the authority of Abu Sa‘id al-Khudri (Allah be pleased with him):

Abu Sa‘id (Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and give him peace) said, “It is a day that lasts fifty thousand years.” So I said, “How long it is!” So He (may Allah bless him and give him peace) said, “I swear by the One in whose control is my soul, indeed, it will be lightened for the Believer until it is briefer than an obligatory prayer which he prayed in the World.” [Ahmad] [Qurtubi, al-Jami‘ li-Ahkam al-Qur’an]

THE RECKONING FOR THE BELIEVERS IS SHORT

Abu Huraira (Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and give him peace) said, “The Day that mankind will stand before the Lord of the Worlds lasts for half a day of the fifty thousand years. Thus, it will be shortened upon the Believers like the sun’s approaching the horizon till it sets.” [Musnad Abu Ya‘la; the narrators are trustworthy according to Haythami, Majma‘ al-Zawaid]
