The Prophet ﷺ said:

“Allah has forgiven my Ummah for what crosses their minds, so long as they do not act upon it or speak of it.”

(Bukhari, Muslim)

If you have a bad thought but resist it for Allah’s sake, it becomes a good deed.

Wow. How truly merciful our Lord is.

Showing mercy towards the creation of Allah عَزَّوَجَلَّ can be the reason for our forgiveness.

Someone saw Imam Ghazali رَحْمَةُ الـلّٰـهِ عَلَيْه in his dream and asked: ‘How did Allah Almighty deal with you?’ He replied, ‘Allah Almighty forgave me.’ It was asked: ‘What was the reason for being forgiven?’ He answered: ‘A fly sat on my pen to drink ink, and so I stopped writing until it had done so and flew away.’ (Lataaif-ul-Manan, p. 305)

يَوْمَ لَا يَنفَعُ مَالٌ وَلَا بَنُونَ إِلَّا مَنْ أَتَى اللَّهَ بِقَلْبٍ سَلِيمٍ

It is a Day when there will be no benefit in wealth or children, but only in one who comes to Allah with a pure heart.

Surat al-Shu’ara 26:88-89

إِنَّمَا ٱلْمُؤْمِنُونَ ٱلَّذِينَ إِذَا ذُكِرَ ٱللَّهُ وَجِلَتْ قُلُوبُهُمْ وَإِذَا تُلِيَتْ عَلَيْهِمْ ءَايَـٰتُهُۥ زَادَتْهُمْ إِيمَـٰنًۭا وَعَلَىٰ رَبِّهِمْ يَتَوَكَّلُونَ

The ˹true˺ believers are only those whose hearts tremble at the remembrance of Allah, whose faith increases when His revelations are recited to them, and who put their trust in their Lord.
