⋆˖⁺‧₊☽◯☾₊‧⁺˖⋆  ɪꜰ  ᴛʜᴇʀᴇ  ᴡᴀꜱ  ᴏɴᴇ  thing  that  made  a  witch  strong,  it  was  her  knowledge  of  the  world  and  all  it's  creatures.  most  of  what  wanda  knew  about  the  supernatural  had  come  from  her  grandmother's  journals  that  she  had  found  when  she  moved  into  the  home  she  inherited.  she  had  spent  countless  nights  sat  in  her  favourite  chair,  studying  the  journals  and  grimoires  by  candlelight.  they  detailed  many  different  things  but  there  was  an  entire  section  on  vampires.  there  were  two  lines  scrawled  in  katerina's  distinct  script  that  caught  her  eye. 'never  trust  beautiful  things  that  fear  the  dawn'  and  'never  bargain  with  hunger  wearing  a  human  face.'

        wanda  had  found  herself  sat  in  a  bar  nursing  a  cocktail  that  really  didn't  taste  the  way  the  menu  had  stated,  she  was  forcibly  holding  back  a  grimace  with  each  sip  she  took  from  the  glass.  her  attention  shifted  when  the  door  open  and  a  fascinating  blond  man  entered  the  establishment,  catching  the  witch's  eye  immediately.  she  averted  her  gaze  when  he  approached  the  bar  where  she  was  sitting  and  words  slipped  from  her  mouth  before  she  could  stop  them.  ❝  you  smell  like  grave  dirt  and  roses.  ❞

⋆˖⁺‧₊☽◯☾₊‧⁺˖⋆  ɪᴛ  ᴡᴀꜱɴ'ᴛ  ᴏꜰᴛᴇɴ  ᴛʜᴀᴛ  wanda  allowed  herself  to  show  emotion  in  front  of  other  people  but  sometimes  it  got  too  hard  to  contain  it  and  it  just  came  out.  she  had  been  telling  aileen  about  her  family  and  how  she  had  lost  them  all  before  she  had  moved  from  eastern  europe  to  the  town  she  now  called  her  home.  talking  about  them  was  difficult  most  of  the  time  but  the  anniversary  of  her  parents  passing  away  was  coming  up  and  she'd  been  thinking  about  it  a  lot.

        a  single  tear  rolled  down  her  tanned  features  as  she  spoke  about  her  twin  brother,  pietro,  but  her  words  faltered  at  the  feeling  of  the  other  woman's  touch  and  wanda  froze.  her  light  green  eyes  were  blown  wide  and  she  swallowed  hard,  blinking  several  times  as  her  gaze  locked  with  aileen's.  ❝  i...  umm...  you  don't  have  to...  i  mean...  ❞  she  didn't  really  know  what  to  say,  her  words  coming  out  broken  and  thick  with  emotion.  she  didn't  mind  the  touch  but  it  was  the  last  thing  she  was  expecting  from  the  scot.

⋆˖⁺‧₊☽◯☾₊‧⁺˖⋆  ɴᴏʀᴍᴀʟᴄʏ  ᴡᴀꜱ  ᴀ  ꜰᴏʀᴇɪɢɴ  concept  to  wanda.  after  having  lost  so  much,  the  witch  had  resigned  herself  to  the  reality  that  she  would  never  experience  what  it  was  like  to  have  a  family  again  and  that  she  would  just  float  through  life  alone  with  no  place  to  call  her  home.  sure,  she  had  a  house  that  she  had  spent  countless  hours  working  hard  trying  to  turn  into  a  home  but  none  of  it  had  worked.  nothing  would  work  until  the  day  luna  had  shown  up  at  her  door  and  had  lit  up  her  world  like  wanda's  own  personal  ray  of  moonlight.

        the  older  maximoff  found  herself  smiling  again.  not  the  forced  type  of  smile  she  gave  most  people  but  genuine  smiles  that  actually  reached  her  eyes.  she  had  even  begun  to  laugh  once  more  which  she  thought  would  never  do  again  but  it  was  all  thanks  to  her  niece.  the  girl  would  often  visit  wanda  and  it  was  always  something  the  witch  would  look  forward  to.  this  was  one  of  those  days.

        the  two  women  were  in  wanda's  candlelit  kitchen  with  traditional  sokovian  music  playing  softly  in  the  background.  the  air  was  filled  with  the  scent  of  the  paprikash  that  was  simmering  away  on  the  stove  and  the  witch  watched  her  niece  with  a  fond  smile  for  awhile  before  she  spoke  quietly,  her  thick  accent  prominent.  ❝  you  remind  me  so  much  of  him  sometimes,  little  one.  ❞  him  being  her  brother  and  luna's  father,  pietro.

⋆˖⁺‧₊☽◯☾₊‧⁺˖⋆  ᴛʜɪɴɢꜱ  ʜᴀᴅ  ʙᴇᴇɴ  ʀᴏᴜɢʜ  for  wanda  since  she  made  the  choice  to  destroy  the  dark  hold  and  that  was  putting  it  lightly.  she  thought  life  was  hard  for  her  before  she  left  that  infernal  book  turn  her  into  the  monster  she  had  hoped  to  never  become.  she  put  herself  in  complete  and  total  isolation  in  her  secluded  cabin  near  the  border  of  what  used  to  be  sokovia.  being  there  made  her  feel  like  she  was  closer  to  her  home,  closer  to  herself  but  where  was  her  home?  who  was  she?

        the  witch  had  meticulously  warded  the  cabin  to  keep  her  and  her  powers  contained,  hidden  from  the  outside  world.  there  was  only  one  person  that  know  where  she  was  and  that  was  bucky.  she  trusted  him  with  the  information  because  she  knew  he  understood  her  need  to  be  alone  so  she  could  overcome  what  had  happened.  when  she  heard  a  knock  on  the  heavy  wooden  door,  that's  who  she  expected  to  find  when  she  opened  it.  she  had  been  sipping  a  mug  of  her  favourite  lavender  and  lemon  balm  tea,  clad  in  one  of  her  long  flowing  skirts  and  a  form  fitting  tank  top.  thick  brows  furrowed  at  the  sound  of  the  knock  and  she  placed  her  tea  down  on  the  wooden  table  before  making  her  way  to  the  door.

        ❝  stiles?  ❞

and doesn't it take all the will Loki can muster to remain unmoving. fear is no unfamiliar thing to him but it coils like a wary serpent in his belly as she comes so very close. the smile on his face is brittle, fixed in place like a shield. memories of a darker place surrounded by the yawning abyss creep along the edges of his memory. a flutter of his eyelashes and he's focused again, gaze dipping as if he could at all possibly follow her movement with any clear definition as she fixes his hair.

❝ forgive me. ❞ it takes effort to afford the words any edge. in defiance, he lifts his chin, teeth truly showing now. ❝ I wouldn't want to frighten you. ❞

the shadows don't retreat but he doesn't urge them forward, either. ... how boldly she's stepped into them and it nearly takes his breath away. more fool him for having had expectations for how to manage this meeting, he's realizing. a lengthy pause, and; ❝ yes. it is my burden and ─ I think ─ yours. so, yes; I would crush them. rend them into pieces as the beasts would and let them linger to bleed out, alone, as they let me. they have tainted any light remaining ─ better to break it, and reforge it. ❞

⋆˖⁺‧₊☽◯☾₊‧⁺˖⋆  ɪɴ  ᴛʜᴀᴛ  ᴍᴏᴍᴇɴᴛ,  ᴡᴀɴᴅᴀ  has  no  intention  of  hurting  or  even  scaring  him.  she  is  merely  being  herself,  the  twisted  and  darkened  version  of  herself  forged  by  the  darkhold.  her  features  soften  as  much  as  her  state  of  mind  will  allow  and  she  purses  her  lips  slightly,  watching  him  closely  the  way  a  predator  would  its  prey.  its  unintentional  but  seemingly  intimidating  nonetheless.  she  lowers  her  hand  back  to  her  side  and  finds  herself  spinning  the  ring  she  wears  on  her  pointer  finger  with  her  thumb,  subconsciously  soothing  her  permanently  spiralling  mind.

        ❝  you  are  forgiven,  god  of  chaos.  ❞  she  says  his  title  in  the  way  someone  would  when  crowning  a  king,  the  magic  flowing  through  her  veins  singing  for  him.  he  is  the  god  of  all  she  is  now  after  all.

        a  soft  hum  leaves  full  lips  as  she  folds  one  arm  over  her  chest  and  rests  her  elbow  on  top  of  it,  her  hand  coming  to  rest  beside  her  mouth.  she's  taking  in  every  word  he's  saying,  trying  her  best  to  discern  exactly  what  he  wants  from  her.  ❝  you  wish  for  us  to  be  beasts?  ❞  a  snicker  rises  in  her  throat  before  she  pushes  it  back  down,  not  allowing  the  sound  to  escape.  ❝  i  was  left  there  under  that  mountain  until  i  clawed  my  way  out.  they  didn't  care,  they  wanted  me  to  be  alone.  they  deserve  everything  they  get  but  why  would  i  help  you?  what  exactly  can  you  do  for  me  that  i  cannot  do  myself?  ❞

❝ like us, indeed. ❞ the murmur comes low, more an afterthought than anything else as he watches. there's a touch of wonder to the crook of his smile, soft emotion settling in like a half-forgotten favorite blanket that had fallen into some dark corner only to be happily found unexpectedly. her next comment brings an equally unexpected laugh, his amusement genuine even as it tapers off into morbid contemplation. ❝ I saw a life unlived. ❞ the shift is abrupt, like falling off a cliff, yet his smile remains, bitterness at the thought of this memory long since buried.

❝ stolen from me, wrecked and ruined, and I was doomed for it. cast aside until I found my own footing. hardly the first time that's happened. ❞ Loki means it literally; offers it, one disaster for another, and a removal of blame ─ reinforcement that he sees no monster in her for her actions. another flick of his fingers, playful despite the somber conversation, and the sparks he created bounce against the red orbs joyfully before exploding into miniature fireworks. ❝ I would agree. and how rare to find something that cannot be stolen; rarer still to have it returned. ❞

there's a question in the statement, shoulders angling backwards ( almost instinctual defensiveness before it's tamed ), chin tilted up, eyes dark; a reply to her own insinuation. Loki would be content to leave it unsaid, and yet; this unspoken undertow to their conversation seems to be surfacing and he is, strangely, willing to allow it.

at the touch of her magic his eyes flutter shut, briefly, not leaning into the touch but riveted by it. just as soon as the magic withdraws he's opening his eyes and his hands, green glow sweeping out into broad strokes and painting a intricate knot around hers, a bold, reflexive response. ❝ nor I you. ❞ he says. ❝ how terrifying. ❞ it could be a jest, commentary on their conversation or their magic, but there is blatant vulnerability in the relaxation of his posture. ❝ it seems to me we truly are alike. ❞

and now he's leaning forward, magic dissipating, nearly encroaching on her space. his eyes glint, narrowed slightly as his focus narrows in on her final comment, wit faster than any instinct of his to retreat. ❝ such a dangerous thought; to bare my soul and be told there is nothing wrong with me. such a strange mercy. though if they should not grant us mercy; what harm in us finding it ourselves? ❞

⋆˖⁺‧₊☽◯☾₊‧⁺˖⋆  ᴛʜᴇ  ᴡɪᴛᴄʜ  ꜰɪɴᴅꜱ  ʜᴇʀꜱᴇʟꜰ  completely  entranced  by  the  god  that  sat  before  her.  she's  comfortable  and  settled  for  the  first  time  in  what  felt  like  years.  she  didn't  mind  it,  she  just  found  it  unusual  to  be  able  to  relax  in  the  presence  of  someone  else.  ❝  unlived...  ❞  she  repeats,  contemplating  it  for  a  few  moments.  she  has  never  thought  of  it  that  way  before  but  now...  now  her  mind  was  changing  slowly.  loki  is  actually  getting  through  all  the  self  loathing  that  wanda  wears  like  a  suit  of  armour  and  that  almost  scares  her.  ❝  life  is  not  as  short  as  most  people  would  believe,  i  suppose.  there's  still  time  to  live  it.  ❞

        ❝  neither  of  us  are  truly  doomed,  darling.  i-i  mean,  loki.  ❞  wanda's  eyes  widen  at  her  own  blunder  and  her  cheeks  flush,  averting  her  gaze  from  his  in  an  effort  to  compose  herself.  (  where  did  that  even  come  from?  maybe  she  is  getting  too  comfortable,  she  thinks  to  herself.  )  a  tiny  giggle  leaves  her  as  she  watches  the  fireworks,  unable  to  stop  the  noise  of  pure  joy  escaping  her.  the  beauty  of  the  way  their  magic  seems  to  play  together  continues  to  please  her,  this  is  probably  the  first  time  she  actually  finds  her  powers  beautiful  and  that's  because  they  are  intertwined  with  his.  ❝  i  beg  a  thief  to  try...  i  don't  think  they'd  get  very  far.  ❞

        light  green  hues  hesitantly  come  back  to  meet  his  and  she  finds  a  shyness  brewing  within  her  at  the  darkness  she  finds  there,  butterflies  stirring  in  her  stomach.  there  is  something  about  him...  something  that  is  calling  to  the  inner  depths  of  wanda's  very  being  and  she  doesn't  know  what  to  do  about  it  or  if  she  even  wants  to  do  anything  about  it.

        a  soft  gasp  escapes  her  throat  at  the  sight  of  his  magic  moving  so  boldly  and  her  cheeks  flush  further,  now  a  pretty  dark  shade  of  pink.  her  own  magic  seems  to  relax  in  the  knot  of  his,  almost  submitting  to  the  feeling  of  being  contained.  ❝  it's  beautiful.  ❞  she  dares  to  say,  a  shy  smile  appearing  on  her  flushed  features  and  she  doesn't  try  to  hide  it  now.  ❝  i  didn't  think  there  was  anyone  in  the  universe  like  me.  ❞

        the  red  glow  of  the  chaos  magic  fades  slowly  into  nothingness  as  her  focus  shifts  entirely  to  him,  tongue  slipping  out  to  wet  her  lips  before  she  swallows.  she  wishes  that  her  blushing  would  fade  away  with  her  magic  but  it  is  still  there.  ❝  we  do  not  need  their  mercy...  ❞  she  trails  off  as  she  slowly  lifts  her  hand  and  reaches  out  to  gently  rest  on  his  cheek,  a  bold  action  she  hopes  more  than  anything  he  will  not  reject.  ❝  just  the  mercy  of  the  one  who  understands...❞  she's  referring  to  each  other,  her  thumb  brushing  lightly  across  the  apple  of  his  cheek.

tension creeps along his spine at the sight of her magic. he straightens slightly, benevolent smile twisting. one heartbeat then another, and he exudes limber relaxation in every angle of his body with practiced ease. ❝ such a kindly welcome. ❞ oh, he can't help himself; even as he attempts to mollify, to soothe, to bargain for this conversation with his hands splayed outwards like a benevolent god, his tongue trips ahead of him, spurred on by some untameable and wasteful madness.

❝ magnificent wreckage but wreckage all the same. ❞ the retort is soft as he gives in to the temptation to show his teeth, figuratively speaking. ❝ I have no business other than to find you. ❞ and now his smile widens, lips pressed tight and thin. ❝ to speak with you. call it ... an insatiable curiosity to determine if you find yourself content with the how the bleeding hearts that infect our worlds choke out any remaining light. ❞

his hands fold together, finally, and he observes. waits. allows the shadows at this feet to lengthen with sinister intent, curling in playful contradiction around him. trickster she's named him ( like so many countless others, like those who claimed to be family ), trickster he can be. there is some semblance of honesty to the role.

⋆˖⁺‧₊☽◯☾₊‧⁺˖⋆  ᴛʜᴇʀᴇ  ɪꜱ  ᴀ  ʜɪɴᴛ  of  amusement  that  appears  on  wanda's  features  and  a  soft  chuckle  leaves  her  full  lips,  several  shades  darker  than  the  giggle  that  it  would've  have  been  years  prior.  she  shows  no  hint  of  intimidation  as  she  slowly  but  surely  drifts  closer  to  him,  the  anklet  chiming  with  each  purposefully  placed  step.  she  comes  to  a  stop  just  a  single  foot  away  from  him  and  looks  up  at  him  through  her  lashes.  ❝  you  startled  me...  it's  not  often  i  get  visitors  anymore.  ❞  her  tone  is  neutral,  bordering  on  flirtatious  if  one  was  to  look  further  into  it.

        she  tilts  her  head  in  acknowledgement  of  his  retort,  a  slight  nod  following  close  behind.  ❝  insatiable,  hm?  ❞  she  almost  teases,  a  smirk  playing  at  the  corner  of  her  lips.  ❝  the  bleeding  hearts  meddle  in  things  that  they  don't  understand  but  you...  you  understand,  don't  you,  loki?  ❞  she  uses  his  name  purposefully  now,  her  accent  wrapping  around  it  like  a  prayer.  ❝  what  would  you  do  about  it?  crush  them  in  the  palm  of  your  hand  so  that  the  light  may  shine  again  or...  allow  them  to  fester?  ❞

        lifting  a  single  ring  adorned  hand,  wanda  uses  her  chaos  magic  to  gently,  almost  affectionately,  move  a  single  curl  of  his  hair  out  of  his  face.  she  welcomes  the  shadows,  thrives  in  them  like  they  are  her  home  and  maybe  they  were  now  that  she  had  shed  any  semblance  of  her  former  self.
