Airtight

The old Airtight Bridge over the Embarras River northeast of Charleston, Illinois. Built in 1914, and listed in the National Register of Historic Places in 1981, it got its name because of the "unnatural" stillness encountered while crossing it when built.  At one time this was a popular hangout and drinking spot for locals and students from nearby Eastern Illinois University. "That all changed on the pleasant Sunday morning of October 19, 1980. According to newspaper reports, two men from rural Urbana spotted the body of a nude woman about 50 feet from the bridge as they drove past. The body was missing its head, hands, and feet. After an extensive murder investigation, no killer was ever located and the identity of the victim remained a mystery for years. Ever since then, an aura of mystery has surrounded the bridge."

Days of Old

Well, sort of! CN 2180, which has been around the block a few times starting with the ATSF, leads a northbound by the restored Illinois Central Depot in Mattoon, Illinois. Still used for Amtrak, the depot once held divisional offices for the IC.

C2E2 2017 Cosplays!

Soldier:76 from Overwatch

About 60% Completed

Professor Port from RWBY

About 85% Completed

So yeah, 2 new cosplays this year! You don’t really see too many of the teachers from RWBY (besides Ozpin) and seeing an Oobleck cosplay at ACEN this year inspired myself to make Port. The biggest challenge left is building his ridiculous weapon. 

Soldier 76 has been a fun one to make so far! The idea behind it was that almost everything for this cosplay can double as motorcycle gear. The downside to this approach is not everything will be exact to character, but it still will look good and be comfortable!

Days haven’t been set for either of them, but 76 looks like Sunday and Port looks like Satuday. Friday is very much up in the air!

It's been a long time since a passenger train has called at the Woodland, IL depot, judging by its remains. Amtrak 64 leads the northbound Texas Eagle through, rerouted from its usual route for a couple of days.

Some photos from C2E2 2016! I'm Roman! After last year's event, I decided it was better to go without a wig. I tended to bump into people a lot with one eye covered up. Pretty sure that's why he got ate.

Situated almost right on the line separating Illinois and Indiana is the little burg of Effner. Just on the Indiana side is this abandoned Toledo, Peoria, and Western depot. It doesn't seem to have been used in many years, but seems to be in decent shape still. Maybe one day someone will restore it.
