A relationship is a two way street. It’s 50/50 and when your partner only is able to give 20, especially if they have mental illness, then you gotta pick up the slack and give 80. But sometimes, both of you can only give 30. That’s when you have to take a step back and realize neither of you have the energy to take care of yourself and the other. You have to take that time to support yourself. Because it is okay to tell someone that you can’t hold all of that right now. And it’s okay to need space to take care of yourself. It’s okay to come back when both of you are ready.
