i feel like this is greatly simplifying what has actually happened. james gunn made those tweets long before the first guardians movie came out and has since apologized for them and pledged to do better. disney was aware of these tweets when they hired him. james gunn has also been outspoken about his views against trump, earning him hate from the far right.

but this right wing guy named mike cernovich, who is known for creating fake outrages like pizzagate, and has made disgusting rape tweets of his own, dredged up the tweets recently to create new conservative outrage (and there was plenty of outrage when gunn was first hired for gotg because of those tweets, which iirc is when he apologized for them) with the sole purpose of hurting gunn’s career.

please can we take a step back from the knee-jerk for a second. yeah the tweets were garbage. we know it. he knows it. and he apologized for it ten years ago. like bonzai-bunny said, disney was AWARE when they hired him for it. he’d already publicly apologized for them. i could care less what happens to gunn. the issue here is that he tweeted extremely anti-trump stuff, and then vile alt-right accounts dug up old, and already addressed, garbage with the sole intent of getting him fired. they didn’t want him fired for the 10 year old tweets. they wanted him fired for being anti-trump. that’s why this is such a big issue, and that’s why the cast is speaking out. 

whats the point in letting people grow if we burn them to the ground over decade old stuff that theyve apologized for? i guarantee not one single person reblogging this post has never said something vile, gross, or disrespectful. would you expect everyone to immediately delete their blog forever? i’m not defending what he did: it was gross. but he already got his punishment for it 10 years ago and he apologized. there is a bigger picture here, and its not about the 10 year old tweets.

yeah you don’t have to forgive Gunn and accept his apology but realize this entire thing was orchestrated by the online far right specifically in response to Gunn opposing trump and they specifically went looking to frame him and cause a controversy

Actually, we should be accepting his original and recent apology because since he did the first time, he has done his best to be a better person. He shows that people, no matter their age or circumstance, can be called out and learn from their mistakes, especially those who are in Hollywood where clearly that doesn’t happen enough. And yes, it’s even more telling now that this has come back up because Gunn is anti Trump and pro Trump assholes think it’s okay to do the same thing they bitch at liberals for doing, creating and perpetuating outrage culture. - Purple

The photo of the little girl crying as her mother is being searched has become the face of the ‘family separation’ uproar. The photo has been used in multi-million dollar fundraisers for separated families, it’s been used to shame Republicans and has sparked emotionally charged calls for political violence against everyone from border officers and their families, Republican lawmakers and even Barron Trump. Time magazine will use the girl on its July 2 cover being looked down on by a looming Donald Trump to sum up the horrors of little kids being separated from their parent by today’s supposed Nazis.

But it seems as if we have an itty problem. The girl’s father has spoken out, and he’s made it clear the iconic girl of Trump’s evil family separations was never separated from her mother, they’re doing fine and they’re together in a family residential center. In fact, he told how the mother had taken the little girl without his consent or knowledge, she left three of their other children behind and paid a people smuggler to get them into America. The father called it irresponsible to take their young child away and force “their baby” to make the long and dangerous trek, and could not understand why she would want to do it as he has a good job and she had already been deported from America before. But he says she wanted to “live the American dream” and have a better job… which does not exactly fit the criteria for an “asylum seeker.” 

It of course doesn’t take away from the significance of what’s happening, but I wonder if the ‘scream first, think later’ mob will continue to use this photo now we know the only separation this little girl has had to deal with is her mom separating her from her father and siblings. But hey, this photo is still doing the rounds on social media, despite it being staged, so I wouldn’t be surprised if the truth is once again no deterrent to the politicized spread of misinformation.

If a single parent who is a us citizen commits a murder, that parent will most likely be locked up, and ergo separated from the child. Are you saying that this is wrong?

These immigrants are not entering the country legally. They are doing so illegally. They have broken the law, and what’s worse, they involved their child in their breaking of the law.

Tell me, who’s fault is it that the illegal immigrant broke the law? They chose their actions. You can’t call them a victim simply because of their choices, just like you can’t call a murderer a victim for having their child taken away. Both instances required active choice.

If you’re European, in a couple of weeks you will be denied any and all access to fandom contents on Tumblr and everywhere else on the internet. Here’s why.

On June, 20th the JURI of European Parliament approved of the articles 11 and 13 of the new Copyright Law. These articles are also known as the “Link Tax” and the “Censorship Machines” articles.

Articles 13 in particular forces every internet platform to filter all the contents we upload online, ending once and for all the fandom culture. Which means you won’t be able to upload any type of fandom works like fan arts, fan fictions, gif sets from your favourite films and series, edits, because it’s all copyrighted material. And you won’t also be able to share, enjoy or download other’s contents, because the use of links will be completely restricted.

But not everything’s lost yet. There’s another round of voting scheduled for the early days of July.

What you can do now to save our internet, is to share these informations with all of your family members and friends, and to ask to your MEP (the members of the European Parliament from your country) to vote NO at the next round, to vote against articles 11 and 13.
