Now that Autumn and schools are beginning again, I think it’s about time to remind everyone about Tove Jansson and her success with school:

- Tove never adjusted to school life as she had hard time following the strict rules

- Tove absolutely sucked at math. She was so horrible at it that her mother had to plead for a special permission so Tove did not have to study it after few years.

- At 12, Tove got her behaviour grade dropped because she drew a caricature of her teacher on the blackboard (though it was a very accurate caricature!)

- Tove hated school so much that she quit at 15, moved away to Sweden and started art school

- She dropped out of Ateneumn art school in Helsinki with some of her fellow students, even though she knew her father would oppose the idea.

As an adult, Tove said she had forgotten most about school because it was to dreadful. In her works, school is always something unlikeable and destructive.

Despite all this, Tove Jansson became a beloved writer and professional artist.

I hope this motivates all students this Autumn.
