Imagine a Sahabi being punished for drinking alcohol, one of Islam’s major sins. But when two other Sahaba cursed at him, the Messenger of Allāh (who ordered the punishment) replied, “Do not curse him, for by Allāh what I know about him is that he loves Allāh and His Messenger.”

Reminder that even major shortcomings in our personal lives, which should be avoided at all cost, do not necessarily mean that love of Allāh has vanished. That is a path to hope and repentance.
