The priest’s first response to the sight of another resident of the Nameless Town is an even split between immense gratitude and crushing despair (it’s not Cody, after all) that leaves him looking nearly stricken. His second response, once Kantera opens his mouth, is a look of incredible distaste that really just reinforces the other man’s point.
“Of course I remember you, Kantera. It’s my responsibility to know every individual in my flock. Even those who have never set foot in a church in their life.” There’s less steam in the accusation this time around; flinging it at the Informant left a sour taste in his mouth, and he can’t muster up the right amount of religious disapproval.
“I might be a little less perturbed if this reunion had started with anything other than scathing critique, but… I hope the cold is treating you kindly.” There’s so much left unsaid, but–it can wait, for now.
He sees the flicker in his eyes... notes it somewhat sadly. Someone is missing from this portrait, isn’t she? It isn’t as if they were glued at the hip in the Town, but her absence is clear in his face-- before it settles back into stone. There’s a certain charm to that too, though, and he isn’t heartless.... so he decides to play nice.
“Truly? That makes me happy... even the little dig. I’d have visited you back then, but I was a touch worried I may burst into flame...” His tone is warmer now, more jovial. He’d hate to drive away an old friend, however distant.
“There’s nothing wrong with being solemn... it suits you quite sweetly.” Kantera tilts his head, flicks a stray lock from between his eyes. “If a smile were to cross that face, it might be too much to bear.” From his sleeve he draws a paper charm, blessed by his hand with the character for “warmth.” “It is... Draken blood runs hot. But you’re not so fortunate, are you? Please, take this... as my apology.”
