week three of june is over. i didn't read nearly as much as i wanted but i still got some done. someday i will knuckle down and finish compound fracture.

bookish reality is my favourite bookish discord server and the readathons they run are amazing. for june through august one of the readathons being run is the academy. the prompts are pushing me out of my comfort zone and i am loving it.

across the green grass fields by seanan mcguire

I have no idea what to expect from this one. finally we are meeting all new characters and an all new door. the summary makes me think of centaurworld and i am curious if this will have the same juxtaposition of whimsy and gritty reality.

Come Tumbling Down by Seanan McGuire ⭐⭐⭐⭐½

Once again we return to the living horror movie that is The Moors. I am starting to think Jack, Jill and their door are a favourite of McGuire. I am not complaining, I love them too.

The dark, eerie vibes of The Moors are immaculate as always and the addition of the Lovecraftian drowned gods only adds to it. This door, and this book in particular, feels like the embodiment of the phrase "when is a monster not a monster? when you love it." Jack's ability to acknowledge and accept her flaws, accept that she is a monster by most standards while refusing to accept that as a flaw is fascinating and makes her relationship with Alexis all the more captivating.

Plot wise, the main conflict fits well in the world of The Moors. Body snatching in its various forms is a tried and true trope of classic horror. Seeing Jacks OCD explored when pushed into an extreme situation was very interesting, as was the chronic illness allegory in Alexis. One thing this series has been great at is exploring a wide variety of representation.  Despite enjoying the plot I am uncertain why they needed help from the other students because none of them did much. It would have been odd not to see them but I feel they did not do enough to justify their inclusion. 

This instalment did not make me any more fond of Cora which makes me nervous for book 7.

compound fracture by andrew joseph white. i loved hell followed with us so much so i was so excited to see this book in the store and to finally read it. it is making me tense as hell unsurprisingly.

come tumbling down by seanan mcguire. i have been slowly making my way through the wayward children series this year and have been loving it. jack is a fascinating character and the worldbuilding is just so intriguing.

role model by rachel reid. heated rivalry is the first romance novel i have read in years and i loved it, while the rest of the series hasn't hit quite the same i am still enjoying myself and my newfound interest in the romance genre.

the complete robot by isaac asimov. this collection has been on my shelf for years. i read a bit, then paused and never returned. i have sworn to myself i will finish it if not this month, then next.

instagram hates me so i guess i'm moving back to tumblr. no one is going to see this but i want somewhere to share my graphics and thoughts.

there is no way i am getting to most of these but it gives me a long list to pick and chose from. and who knows, maybe this will be the month i do nothing but read lol. got a variety of genres lined up but most of them are definitely trending darker. curse you discord book servers for your buddy reads and readathons. you wreak havoc on my tbrs every month.
