Where I’ve Been
“Hey Katie! Where have you been? It’s been over a month since you’ve posted!”
Well friends, I’ve been going through a super fun depression period and things got super dark for a while there. Don’t wanna go into details, and I’m sure not many of you care anyway. Point is, I’m better than I was, and I’ll be back to posting semi-regularly, whenever I find updates from the band.
Things are probably going to be quiet with everyone until 2018; the band is doing some station visits at the moment, but when something exciting happens, I’ll be sure to post.
Can we also talk about how the band is currently IN BUFFALO, IN MY HOME CITY, LITERALLY 10 MINUTES FROM MY HOUSE, FOR A STATION VISIT, AND I CAN’T SEE THEM.
BITTER.

Delta Rae's Epcot Performance
Tonight's performance will be live streamed on the Enchanted Tiki Talk Podcast Facebook page. I'm going to be tweeting along on my twitter, and I'll be live blogging it here as well, probably. So listen along or follow along through my garbled tweets talking about how I'm in love with everyone in the band.
I still think about this video a lot
See eclectic country-Americana band Delta Rae call out Charlottesville violence, "sickness" of bigotry prior to performance of "All Good People."
“I hate that I have to introduce this song every night. And I hate that we had to write it.”
Watch Brittany introduce All Good People and read Rolling Stones’ write up on it.
On tattoos and graveyards
Bit of a talk about my recently done tattoo. Why I got this line, and why I put it where I did.
So. Death has always been a hard thing for me. I mean, it’s hard for everyone. But I’ve been to a lot of funerals in my life and I’ve always always always struggled after them. They always just took everything from me, and then I never really got over losing that person.
My grandma died in march. It was hard for my family, especially my father, who was now orphaned. So my brothers and I came to an agreement: we had to keep my father’s spirits up. I’ve always been an empathetic person, so I thought we were gonna be the Comfort Squad™. But we went with a unique angle- laughter. We joked, we teased, we told good stories… and then something amazing happened: the funeral and days following shifted from days of sorrow to ones of happiness. It still hurt, but it was lessened greatly by the approach we took.
I look back on those days and smile, rather than mourn. I have an entirely new outlook on death and on life, and I think Dance in the Graveyards is a song that perfectly reflects that idea. It helps that my grandmother’s last words were, and I kid you not, about getting to heaven to dance with her husband again. So the song brings me so much joy now in such a personal way. That’s why I got the lines tattooed on me.
The thigh placement? Simple. I hate my thighs so so so much. I’ve hated them since I was old enough to have a sense of body image. But now I can look at a despised part of my body and feel happiness because I love my tattoo so much. It’s hard to hate a place that has something so wonderful there.
So that’s my dumb lil write up. I’m so happy about my tat. I love telling people that it’s from a song that I love from a band that means a lot to me. I’m just a very happy camper.
WOW. Okay. So I F I N A L L Y got my Dance in the Graveyards tattoo that I've been wanting for like 4 years. It stung like hell. I'm in love with it. I have a whole big write up of thoughts for it but that'll come when the adrenaline passes and I get time to think my words through.

Delta Rae | Bottom of the River
Oh, when we were young, we never knew The pain that lay beyond, but then we grew And all my heroes they were strange But we all just want to be the same But who will lead us when they are gone? Who will save us when the wrong ones have won?
In other news I’ve been introduced to this song and I listen to it about 20 times a day.
