thinking about this guy in knew in college who had to get eye surgery and he was bummed about it for a number of reasons but mostly bc he was a big reader and he wouldn’t be able to read for a while so his roommates all recorded themselves reading his favorite book and gave it to him for his birthday and just like.... that’s love y’all

SHOUT OUT TO MY WRITER HOMIES WITH MUSLIM OCS/CHARACTERS;
1. WEARING A SHAWL TO BATTLE IS THE EQUIVALENT OF HAVING GIRLS FIGHT IN STILLETTOS.
Just so you know, this is what I’m talking about;
-Is it bad-ass? Abso-fucking-lutely. Is it Practical? Not a chance in hell. Especially not if it’s silk. If it’s cotton, you are skating on thin fucking ice. That bitch will NOT stay on. It barely stays on with me just walking down the street to Walmart. Wielding axes and rifles and swords and daggers? I PROMISE you it will not do the job it’s expected to-WHICH IS TO COVER THE HAIR. (Some muslim girls dont wear them-and that’s fine. But those who DO do it to completely cover the hair in public. Is it ~Aesthetic~ to see the flyaway hairs in battle? Sure, but those aren’t usually practical either. )Consider instead;
sport shawls
-For one thing, it’s actually DESIGNED to be worn to atheletic activities. Archers tuck hems into the collar of their shirts so they don’t get in the way, and track runners pins (ill get to this bit later) them down into the shirts to prevent flyaway bits and to stop them from getting slapped in the face. It’s breathable, stretchy, presentable without being attention seeking.
Bawals
In a pinch, bawals work just as well-as long as you specify that they are COTTON. Unlike the shawl, which are rectangular, bawals are SQUARE, and thus easier to manipulate, fold and pin down. If you wear it right, they carry an equal aesthetic value to shawls, and come in plenty of pretty patterns as well.
2. I’m not sure about the USA, but the girls I know wear this underneath the headscarf;
Does it kinda look like a beanie? It sort of works like a beanie too. Hair is slippery. It tucks in any extra hair you might miss just by wearing the headscarf, its harder to pull down and on the event the shawl DOES fall down, your hair is still not exposed. It protects the ears-which is important even on a daily basis, because pins, headphones and any other headgear that might pinch them. It comes in plenty of designs, including ones that has open backs to allow long hair and ponytails.
3.SPEAKING OF PINS; I’M TALKING ABOUT THESE BAD BOYS;
BROOCHES
though , i suppose most of y’all are most familiar with safety pins, right?
what’s the difference? Well, if your oc/character is an athlete, it’s actually LEAST likely they’ll be wearing SAFETY PINS. They’re cheap and super easy to buy in bulk, true, but they also SUPER easy to wear out even with the smallest amount of strenuous activity. Between the three of ‘em, I’d put the brooches as the best option to wear in battle because 1) it has a large surface area, thus hurts less when pressed on with heavy items, which includes bag straps and weapons, (pins are sharp and can poke you painfully); and 2) more secure-the latch is covered by the gaudy jewellery above, and theyre usually smaller and tighter. Stays on the stubbornnest, even when headscarf is pulled. very roughly. I’m saying that even the cheapest brooches will allow the shawl to be ripped apart before even letting it go.
3. They probably ponytail their hair. Because Come On, guys.
Anyway it’s been bothering me and I just thought if yall could bother knowing the difference between skin tones for POC you could bother with muslim practicalities too. Or something
I like other things I SWEAR
There’s another Plume ad going around about informed consent and while I’m not going to get into Plume’s issues seeing as I don’t know much about it (And there are plenty of others who can explain it so much better than I could with my rough knowledge.), but it seems they make use of the alternative Intersex flag by Natalie Phox in this ad and I wanted to make this post to note this:
A) No, this is indeed not an alternate trans flag. B) Please, please, please, do not refer to this flag as “ugly” or “fucked up,” it’s incredibly discomforting.
As an Intersex individual, this is incredibly discomforting and upsetting to be seeing other LGBT+ individuals referring to one of our flags like this. Intersex folks do not receive much representation (Not that it seems Plume was even trying to do this, it seems to be a misuse of it in place of the typical trans flag in this scenario, as they do not mention Intersex individuals at all in this ad.) We primarily have two flags that represent us best, that being the one created by Morgan Carpenter in 2013 of the Intersex Human Rights Australia organization (The one you most commonly see, the yellow flag with the purple circle.) and the one created by Natalie Phox in 2009 that is purple, white, and has a stripe in the center that has pink and blue (Typically fading together, representing the overlap.)
Calling our oldest flag and representation of our pride “ass” and “fucked up” is very harmful. It’s hard for us to be represented as is, but seeing Phox’s flag being described like this is extremely upsetting, and I hope people can see why. Seeing other LGBT+ folks talk about our flag in such a derogatory way is absolutely saddening to me.

◾️ zwarte piet is racisme // black pete is racist ◾️
where i’m from, Sinterklaas is celebrated today; a winter holiday like Christmas, but imagine instead of jolly elves giving you presents and bringing you joy, it’s white people in blackface - Zwarte Piet, a racist caricature.
because of this, late november - early december is Hell for black people in the Netherlands and Belgium. you walk down the street seeing white people doing blackface minstrelsy, you grow up seeing tons of blackface imagery in stores or on TV, and the conversation on whether or not its racist is being dominated by complete disregard to the Dutch colonial & slavery history.
while changes are being made (slowly), the amount of gaslighting and racist violence black people and POC here have to endure is draining and traumatizing. “it’s for the kids!” they say, but i’ve seen first hand how it has negatively impacted black kids in my family, making them question their place in society, myself included. black activists have campaigned against the tradition and those speaking out have been beaten and harassed by both the police and the far-right. and yes, this happens in a country that prides itself on being sooooo tolerant.
it should not take that much effort to change a “fun, family friendly holiday tradition for kids” in such a way that is inclusive for EVERYONE - in a way that remains fun and pleasant without harming others, especially marginalized folks. today i wanted to speak up and use my platform in hopes to educate, spread awareness and advocate for change.

No more brother wars
i dont think i posted these but here i made a little frog pattern to make tiny frog toys with my grandma
this is the first lil guy I made while still learning how i should sew it
AAA ok so a lot of people have been asking for the pattern to this, tho I’ve been using just these two little papers to do the cut outs lol
i tried my best to translate it into digital so that people get a bit more accurate look at them. Tho bear with me I’ve never done an actual pattern design sheet before!
so basically my hope is that anyone could print these out to any size of their choosing and get the same result, but ive never tried anything larger than approx. 3 inches with these sooo idk if you try it tag me!
the goal is to sew the backs together to the lines at the tip of the head to the middle of the butt. then leaving a space along the belly piece near the butt end and sewing from one side of the butt including all the legs and the “mouth” to the other side with its legs to get back to the butt. if that makes sense
i usually pause sewing up the body once the head is fully sewn together,, usually after ive sewn both arms and ill yank it inside out where ill start sewing on the little poofball eyes so i know theyre in a good place, then resuming the body, and then pulling the whole thing inside out and pushing out the tips of the limbs with a skinny blunt object like a dull pencil until i can see the stitches. if you attempt this piece definitely make sure you stitch up the arm and leg crevices very well!!!!
then just stuff the lad and sew up his back end and its done :)
one suggestion for fabric is always try to use a stretchy soft fleecy fabric with these because its much easier if mistakes are made during sewing and to hold the ROUND shape better
Overall its a very good use of scraps if you’ve accumulated a lot and don’t know what to do with them 👍👍
So I made a frog (huge)
I literally can’t I’m losing my mind over the sheer girth of this frog.
Absolutely incredible.
11/10 and godspeed.
This post has absolutely everything I could ever want.
My hot take is that actually food allergies are a disability and more people need to realize that. The amount of research people with food allergies have to do when they want to go visit places but arent sure if they’ll have access to any food there is insane. Allergy friendly food is almost ALWAYS incredibly expensive in stores bc of all those fucking fad diets that like yoga instructors and middle age soccer moms make popular. And on top of the price, it is so hard to FIND! Almost evrry grocery store ive been to has a tiny ass allergy section that is almost always near empty. Plus what about people who don’t have the money to pay 10$ for a loaf of bread? You go to starbucks and non-dairy milks are like 70 cents extra? People are definitely out there buying and eating stuff that is destroying their digestive systems because they have no other choice. I am begging people to stop pretending that catering to people’s food allergies is elitist and not worth is. We need to make these options openly available.
And this is one of several reasons that I firmly hold the opinion that prohibiting people from bringing their own food into sports stadiums and amusement parks and hotels is an accessibility issue, and should be treated as such. Concession stands and hotel restaurants do not and cannot provide enough choices to accommodate every possible food allergy or intolerance, and that means not letting people bring in their own food = not letting people eat while they’re there.
(Side point: it’s also a religious discrimination issue – and it’s even more trouble when religious dietary restrictions and health-related dietary restrictions overlap. I’ve been in the center of that particular venn diagram and it sucks.)
“Is it that, just faintly, you can still hear the echo of the bells?”
