I miss you! -Ralsei
Ralsei prepares for Kris and Susie's return to the darkworld between the chapters of 1 and 2.
Long post of a few random things I wanted to point out from both UT and DR:
Chara speaking. Almost certainly, with the red dialogue. "WHAT?!? You want to erase this timeline before we've taken it over??? How dare you!!! Since when were you the one in contr-"
*delete
"Birds are singing. Flowers are blooming."
...
Just something to consider.
This is Ralsei's castle. Funny how it not only looks like a giant depiction of the Delta Rune, but also a lot like ASRIEL DREEMURR. I still like to think that Ralsei is Asriel crossed over into the Dark World... but if so, how did this apparent coincidence happen?
There we go with spaghetti again...?
And then she gives you a cell phone.
I think Toby must also like Zelda, cuz this sounds a lot like, "It's dangerous to go alone! Take this." :P
This creepy tree. I've heard people say Chara must be buried under it. That makes sense, but... why do I keep thinking it looks like something from the Dark World? Completely shrouded in a black silhouette, with red leaves?
Papyrus keeps looking at the tall grass where Frisk is hiding. How does he even know Frisk is there? Did Flowey tell him? Or is it that same really good "instinct" that lets him see you on a phone call?
The 4th wall breaker that nobody talks about:
Thundersnail is not looking at Frisk. It's looking at YOU. It's creeping me out. I don't know if I'll be able to play Thundersnail ever again....
So, the Deltarune prophecy is about the Earth dying, essentially, right?
Remember in UT Genocide, while Undyne is saying that she is the hero who will stop the player from destroying the rest of the monsters, and the humans, as well- what's the track called while she's saying that?
I am quite certain, at least with what evidence I've gathered so far, that Chara was the terrible calamity foretold in the Deltarune prophecy. They said they wanted another world to destroy. But if we don't let them out of the Underground, then... where would they go?
Perhaps an alternate universe?
stupid deltarune headcanon but hear me out ok??
alright, so i just thought of something. i have this theory that ralsei is transmasc.
reason 1: he wears a big baggy cloak that you can’t really see much of his body under. he could be trying to hide a female body due to dysphoria.
reason 2: he specifies almost as soon as you meet him that he is the prince of darkness. he could be doing this because he’s afraid he looks like a girl and/or he’s trying to specify that he’s a boy so that he doesn’t get misgendered. keep in mind, he’s been alone for most of his life. he could be trying to keep out of a situation where he has to correct someone about his pronouns, because he doesn’t know how to deal with that kind of thing.
reason 3: his voice sounds a little bit like a girl’s voice. now that i think about it, he sounds like a girl trying to sound like a boy.
it’s not much but it’s something. let me know what you think of my theory in the comments.
YOOO BRO I JUST THOUGHT OF THIS (sorry for the grammar)
Ok so Deltarune Game theory time: What if Gerson created the Dark world for his students? THINK ABOUT IT BRO!!!! Why does his grave say Teacher? Why is there an unused classroom? Why does Seam call the lightners "Our gods" "Our creators"
Does this make sense? Idk is 2am for me
hmmm deltarune mode
im sure this has been covered before but i am all in favor of you [the player] using kris as a vessel, rather than actually being kris
the opening monologue tells you to "choose a vessel", and while it tells you "no one can choose who they are in this world", it doesnt say you ARE kris. it just says thats what your name is, so that could just be "you still use a vessel, you just cant choose it"
also, a lot of kris' interactions with other monsters are ,,, weird.
obviously kris could be shaken up by what they experienced, but given its implied theyve 1) been there before and 2) its imaginary i dont know.. why they would be?
and even if they were, i dont know why they'd forget how to play the piano. they clearly come to the hospital often to play, so its not "oh they played when they were younger and forgot"
this too, is like. huh. yeah.
the entire sans interaction as well. it feels like he's talking more to the player rather then to kris
and then. that ending
for me what really sells the whole "youre playing as kris, you arent kris" is this ending. when they pull their soul out and throw it in the birdcage, then look at the camera, it feels like theyre threatening YOU. not monsters, not the underground, not anyone else but YOU for using their body as a vessel when you didnt belong there
plus, you can control their soul in the birdcage, but as soon as its out you can no longer control kris.
Wait a minute...
Chara killed themself, and even dragged Asriel into the plan, and had no problem with killing six more humans to shatter the barrier. (And then what? Use Asriel to kill more humans?)
Then, when Genocide Frisk comes along, Chara possesses them and demands they erase the timeline and due a Pacifist run so Chara can ride Frisk's meat suit out into the surface world to go on a murder spree.
Shift over to Deltarune. The birdcage. The dark red stain on the carpet. Some of the cruel jokes Kris has played on people (most notably the ketchup thing with Noelle).
And again, the yellow text, only associated with Chara at the end of Undertale, which comes up in the Dark World and stays with Kris throughout the rest of the game.
Chara needs a Determined person to use as a vessel, right? Or is it just that they needed Genocide Frisk in order to have enough Determination to be set free? And now they just look for any human who has some kind of a mean streak?
Sorry, Kris just doesn't strike me as being the nicest kid in the world. I mean, just what the heck is that red stain??? Besides, if Susie's actually a softie deep inside- which the game shows her to be- well, why should we believe that Kris is some kind of sweetie-pie?
Still convinced that's Chara at the end of Chapter 1, and that Kris picked them up in the Dark World.
I've been going back and forth on whether or not the Dark World is real, and my main hurdle for Not Real theory has been that Lancer feels like a real person (everyone else could conceivably be a toy being wiggled around by Gaster or whatever)
But what if...Ralsei and Lancer are both Flowey's sockpuppets...he split his Uwu Fluffy Boy Prince and Little Shithead Prince personas into two separate characters...he popped the second puppet on stage as soon as it became clear that the Fluffy Boy persona wasn't working on Susie...
Hey, so I’ve been replaying Deltarune again and noticed something interesting while going through Hometown. I haven’t seen anyone mention it before, so I thought I’d point it out. See this bit that happens when you talk to the bunny lady at the diner?
It says *Kris* got the Hot Chocolate. Not *you*. In Undertale and Deltarune the actions of the player character are pretty much always narrated in second person. Except here. It could be just something Toby Fox overlooked, but given how there’s this pretty well-accepted theory that Kris is possessed by something, presumably the player, and how the Hometown segment is especially littered with hints pointing to that theory being true, I can’t help but think this small change in narration is significant in some way. I don’t know if this is the only time in the game this happens. If it is I must have missed it, since this is the only one I could find.
i would (and do want to) ramble about the deltarune sneak peak but frankly i'd rather just give you all this picture. yes, i have as much context as you.
Ramble. I dare you.
well shit i guess if ive been given permission im legally obligated to now! buckle up guys, gals, and those who know better, because i love having excuses to ramble. also this is going to be entirely in lowercase because i feel more comfortable typing in that format so... sorry in advance?
(if you want to read the status update before looking at my bullshit, here it is)
first of all, while it does make sense from a storytelling and plot twist standpoint, im? not sure if i like ralsei not wearing his hat anymore? i don't know, it's more of a personal thing and i'm probably just not used to seeing his sprite like that yet. honestly i just got really attached to the stupid floppy wizard hat and it's sad to see it go 😔👊
with that being said, i'm pretty sure chapter 2 takes place in a hospital. this has been all but outright confirmed, especially with toby releasing noelle's theme and a preview of what seemed to be her darkworld-self's sprite awhile back. the picture below just helps to hint pretty strongly at it... it also looks like there's two types of the weird magenta-arrow-enemy thing, but that could also be a temporary cosmetic effect that's entirely due to treating the enemy with tender loving care.
...actually, it could just be because the game is still being worked on and it's a placeholder sprite, but it is weird that ralsei has his hat off, but the little head next to his name doesn't. it's most likely the former, but it is something to note just in case it comes into play at some point later on.
nothing else to say about this picture aside from the fact that i adore their outfits!! especially susie's weapon. susie says vaccinate or die by her hands.
kris is getting hit by traffic!! it looks like this zone of the darkworld is more city-themed. while it does seem to work against the idea that the second chapter is set somewhere in the hospital, this could easily just be outside of it. perhaps a minigame of some sort, like toby mentioned in the status update? the blocky shapes at the bottom look almost like microphones and/or broadcasting equipment, so it could be a mettaton-esque wacky gameshow.
this is the picture i posted earlier. i... yeah, i got nothing. i have no idea what's going on here. at least lancer is a key item?? i don't know.
with the pictures out of the way, it's time to analyze the text itself. there's not a lot here, but i did want to bring a few parts of it up, since it's... interesting.
a few people have pointed it out already, but i find the phrasing of this sentence to be... odd, in a way? is toby talking about undertale as a series, referring to undertale and deltarune together, or is he talking about undertale as a series, referring to even more games and/or content after deltarune? just like ralsei's sprite, it's very likely that people (including me) are just overanalyzing this. probably.
since the information is spread out over several sections, i won't screenshot and put pictures of all of it, but there is a status estimate for deltarune in the status update! wow that was a weird sentence. anyway, the most important thing here is that toby is working on it, and that he's looking to hire people for the deltarune development team. also, i really hope is wrist gets better, and that he does manage to get some sort of physical help and/or surgery for it, because ouch. wrist pain is no joke.
also, while it is (understandably) few and far between, it's nice to see some good old toby humor.
i don't have anything else to say. wrist (full time) is just... great. i love it. such a good job tbh, would work at again. 10/10
and... that's the end! i don't have anything else to say! mainly because at some point my braincells will run out of theory and/or thinking juice and i kinda need that to function today. also, i don't have anything else to ramble about. it's mostly the latter.
so, uh... shoutout to (and blame) @deltarune-au-domain for being my theorist enabler, apparently.
Its just my job. Theories are always cool! :)
Vessel
Heres my theory on how the other 5 vessels design could be decided.
I thinks that the other vessels could use the option thats ahead of the one you use.(If that make sense.) So its likely that almost everyone 6 vessels is unique from each other(With the main thing being the same is the colorscheme)
thinking abt ralsei being kris’s old imaginary friend that’s p much just Asriel But Their Age bc while he was a good older brother and they loved him, they felt as though the age gap meant they couldn’t be friends as well as siblings, and he was always so busy and they spent so much of their childhood alone and up until susie they didn’t really have anyone they could call a friend and i
The other weird hc I have is that rouxls is made of ink and his hair is like feather quils. If you actually take a closer look at his shirt you can see that it's actually cartoonish small text and not actually buttons. I'm guessing these are The Rules.
Hi So I had a thought when looking at the official undertale stickers i have and uh. I have no idea if this *means* anything but it definitely *feels* like I’ve cracked something in the whole “Who the hell is the Strangeman” theory
Not too important, not too unimportant
So.... in Deltarune, if you find the room with the tree and the Mystery Man in the dark world, you are given an egg that can only be left in Asgore’s fridge and nowhere else. The egg multiplies, so when you open the fridge again, there are two eggs. I think this might be a direct reference to the song at the end of Deltarune... particularly the lyric “i’m with you in the dark”. the light in a fridge turns off when you close it. the eggs are companions in the dark.
also, the pickle disappears. i believe the pickle represents Gerson. in one reality he’s alive, in the other, he’s dead.
if you type “EGG” in WingDings, you get the hand symbols above, left-up-up.
the Knight in chess can only move in L-shaped formations, and left-up-up would qualify as a move. that means the egg = knight, and Lancer’s dad speaks of the knight he serves. let’s just assume the knight is Gaster, since that’s the only lead we have so far on Mystery Man.
The game also reminds you in subtle ways that Asgore is/was a king in another reality. The flower shop’s name is Flower King, and the game points out that the futon on the floor doesn’t look “king sized”. So... even in Deltarune where Asgore has no such status or power, Gaster is still loyal to him, and by his side in the dark.
also worth mentioning: Gaster has always been associated with darkness and shadow whereas Asgore is always associated with flowers and sunlight. Could this light/dark dichotomy be deliberate, perhaps referencing the Dark World prophecy that Ralsei explains? their harmony “shattered”.... kinda like Gaster was “shattered across time and space”..... just sayin
